Get your Jeep out on the dunes at Silver Lake . Beginner's Guide and How To

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I'll tell you what you need to know before taking your Jeep or 4WD to Silver Lake for the first time. Silver Lake State Park is a fantastic and unique experience on the west side of Michigan, but it can be intimidating for the first time visitors. Airing down, dune flags, ORV Stickers, what to do when you get to the ORV area,...It can all be confusing for a first timer who is not a seasoned off-roader.

    Took my stock highlander there and had zero issues. I didn't attempt anything gnarly but I had a blast just driving around.

    I struggled with my BLD kicking in different times and causing me difficulty when I needed wheel spin. I also was not sure if I should be in 4H or 4L when on the dunes. I recently upgraded to a Jeep Rubicon which has lockers. Is it recommended to use rear lockers when on the dunes?

    Only driven it once. I’ve been in mears 4 times. What is recommended air pressure and who sells the two piece flag? Does the pipe insulation come with it for lower half?

    I have 275/55 R20 tires. This is apparently not low profile (lower than 50) but I’m still concerned if it’s too close. What do you guys think??

    Would a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland be ideal for the sand dunes? Anyone can answer would be appreciated.

    At first I thought this was your 392. Then I remembered the 392 doesn't have hood vents on the sides and figured you must just like black Wranglers. LOL Hey, what gimbal are you using? Love how smooth the motion is on this!

    Good eye for detail! This video has drone footage of my 392, but the in Jeep video was taken in a 2019 Black 2 door Rubicon that I traded when I bought the 392. Shot using a GoPro Hero 9 (no gimbal). Thanks for watching.

    @@jeepn392 ah, okay, you must have a passenger holding the camera then. The camera is always pointing straight forward while the jeep rocks and rolls around it. So what PSI works best on your 392? Did you buy the Extreme Recon 35" tire package?

  • @jeepn392

    @jeepn392

    @@naamangeist7843 14 pounds worked well with the 392 on the stock 33" Falken MTs. The XT Recon package wasn't available on the 392 when mine was built. (I have one of the early run units.) Now running 35" Falken AT3Ws on AEV Borah wheels but haven't had the 392 to the dunes with that tire and wheel combo yet. With the 2 door Rubicon, I needed to run 12 psi on the stock Falken Mts.

    @@jeepn392 so, finally got my 392 out on the sand last week but the funniest thing happened. After climbing 3-5 times on different hills, I tried Test Hill only to be stopped just before cresting the hill from my brakes being automatically applied. I think the vehicle's radar detected the sand, thought it was an obstacle and went into accident prevention mode, applying the brakes. So, then another odd thing happened immediately after, the transmission refused to go into reverse or even neutral. The R and the N would just flash. So I was just stuck there with no way of even getting back down the hill. So, I put it back in drive and set the parking brake and when I did that, the engine shut off. I restarted it and again, no reverse or neutral. So I shut the engine off, got out and had a 5 minute conversation with some spectators, trying to figure out how I was going to get my Jeep off that hill. Then I tried one last time... started the engine, put it in reverse and... it was back to normal, with the exception of an illuminated engine light on the dash. At that point I was done playing Russian roulette with the mobility of my Jeep so I drove home. The engine light stayed on for about an hour or so before going off about half way home. Have you experienced anything like this with your 392?

    @@naamangeist7843 Wow. Sounds like an interesting time for you on test hill. Haven’t experienced anything like that but the first time I took my 2019 Rubicon to the dunes I was frustrated by all of the electronic “nanny” controls. After I learned how to turn off all of the traction and stability controls, life became much better. Keep me posted on how the Jeep is doing.

    Only front-mount flags allowed here? The most popular flag mounts for the JL are rear-mounted, on the gate.

    @@jeepn392 thanks. So what are you using for a front flag mount on your 392? I don't want to drill holes in my steel bumper so would prefer using existing factory holes but can't seem to find anything for the front, only back mounts.

  • @jeepn392

    @jeepn392

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@naamangeist7843 You have a few options. There is a larger diameter whole under the passenger side end cap on the steel bumper that will accommodate most flags. That’s what l used in this video, but I prefer running the full bumper for extra front end protection. On the 392 I use a simple steel plate that mounts using one of the factory torx bolts. Flag mounts to the plate. I would not recommend one of the tow hook mounts, but that’s another option you could check into.
