    Thank you for sharing this adventure - I love the idea of a naturally aspirated Jeep with no stupid baggage like ESS. Too bad for the cylinder deactivation. The transfer case has a clutch in it that wears out. Some people force 2 wheel drive to prolong it's life with the tazer mini. I can get 18-19 mpg on long cross country trips but I have the 3.73 gears and 35's. No lack of power but I want 37s eventually and think I may be forced to regear.

  • @TheNotSoOrdinaryCarGuy

    @TheNotSoOrdinaryCarGuy

    7 ай бұрын

    From my understanding it’s always in 2WD(RWD) until it detects slippage. Then the clutch sends power to the front until the slippage is gone. From what I’ve read, some of these failures are occurring because people try to keep it 4hi Auto when off roading when they should actually be putting it into 4hi Part Time the minute they leave the pavement. I think it’s easy to want to keep it in 4hi auto because the thing has so much torque that it doesn’t seem like it needs to shift it at all and especially since it’s supposed to transfer the power automatically. I’ve done this on a few occasions in some of my videos (beginning of Wet N Wild trail at HF) but I really need to shift into 4hi part time and 4 lo a bit sooner. And 18-19 is fantastic! No doubt the gearing has something to do with that and possibly speed? Where I live, we have very high speed limits on rural highways and interstates and this is not conducive of producing high mpgs. 😂

    @@TheNotSoOrdinaryCarGuy one last question for you.. many people are under the assumption that the Rubicon full-time tcase is purely a clutch system, even when engaged in true 4WD (4H part time and 4L). My assumption is this: The full time tcase does use a clutch, but also a chain and planetary gear system. the 4H Auto works with a viscus clutch system for normal road use - all wheel drive, however when in 4H part time or 4L it is mechanically locked for off road with whatever the tcases corresponding ratio is. Would you agree? I can’t imagine a Rubicons tcase to not be mechanically locked when engaged in true off-road 4H and 4L, especially something like a 392 given its price tag.

  • @TheNotSoOrdinaryCarGuy

    @TheNotSoOrdinaryCarGuy

    3 ай бұрын

    @@kyle6703 I believe you are correct. This is why many people suggest putting it into 4hi Part Time the minute you leave the pavement in order to not pre maturely wear out the clutch system. Many out there believe that the reason some people’s 392 t-cases have failed, is they run them in regular 4hi Auto while doing minor off-road (dirt roads, light two-tracks, etc) and even though it does fine traction wise, it probably puts more strain on the clutches than they were really designed for. The way the t-case should be used: 4hi Auto (pavement), 4hi part time (light off-road, high speed off-road, or any slippery conditions), and 4-Low (Rock crawling or steep inclines/declines).

    You don’t need to re-gear to run 37s with your stock earring, my 392 has the 373 gears and I run 39 x 13 1/2 mud terrain‘s and I notice no power loss except off the line but there’s so much horsepower it doesn’t matter and I also tow an off-road teardrop trailer and the set up works awesome. The only thing you need to be very careful with is lifting the 392 I would not recommend anyone go over 3 1/2 inches anything taller will destroy the front driveshaft because the pinion angles do not work on higher lift kits, I went through that problem with Rockcrawler suspension 4 1/2 inch kit would not work, even aftermarket drive shafts would not work too steep of pinion angle thanks for the video

    Wow, even aftermarket driveshafts wouldn't work at that height? Good info! I just added a 2.5" lift and 37s and I don't notice any power loss at all. In fact, in some ways, it feels quicker off the line thanks to heavy duty springs adding some stiffness to the ride. There's less body roll and significantly less brake dive. Thanks for chiming in! Stay tuned for upcoming lift kit install video and review!

    I was once parked next to a Bronco Raptor at a grocery store and the owner of it was there. We chat for a little and as I fired the 392 up, he immediately said "I should have gotten the 392" Lol! He stared long and hard as I pulled away. It had a couple inches of clearance when it was stock height and even now still clears it after the 2.5" lift. Probably has a half inch of clearance but I park in my garage everyday with no problems. I'm 6'1", 215, and I don't really have too much of an issue. Could it be a lot roomier? Sure. And I've had some really large, roomy vehicles in the past. But the lack of room for my height has never been an issue for me. It's way roomier than my 2004 TJ ever was and I loved driving that thing.

    That’s a new one for me. What’s that give you? Is your heated steering wheel on all the time?

    @@TheNotSoOrdinaryCarGuy excellent review! I currently drive a gladiator Rubicon diesel. Thinking of trading for a 392 do you have any regrets getting rid of the Mojave? I also see you had a power wagon and a rebel what’s your top three favorites of all these vehicles?

    At the time of filming, $2883.53 was spent on fuel for this vehicle. And it was worth EVERY PENNY! 😂 We have relatively cheap gas in Texas. $3.65/gal avg for premium fuel (93oct).

    Why anyone would want a junk scatpack motor in their jeep is beyond me smh. I owned a scatpack and it was the biggest POS ive ever owned smfh. I drove it for 3 weeks then sold it.
