I don’t think being a minimalist is a bad thing. But I have found myself regretting getting rid of certain things. I have purged clothing only to have my husband laid off. We were in a terrible financial situation and I could have used some of those basic items I felt I didn’t need. One shouldn’t live in clutter, but purging unnecessary is stupid.

If you didn’t need it when he was working why would you need it when he was laid off? It’s perspective.

@@30daysorless8that's what I was thinking. Maybe when he was working she was buying more things to replace those every week and updating or upgrading rather than purging? I agree though. If I have a drawer for pants and there's room in the drawer for more I don't try to get down to a tiny amount because nothing else is going in that drawer anyway and it's not hurting anybody.

I genuinely don't regret decluttering anything but I regret a few things that got destroyed when our basement flooded.
Sometimes it's about finding the right person to give a sentimental item to. I had a handmade cookbook that my 96 year old grandmother had given me in the early 1990s when I first got married - it was a collection of recipes from members of her church that had been copied and bound (cheaply, like you'd do yourself at Office Depot) The cookbook reminded me of our humble beginnings in that first apartment, and reminded me of a time when grandma still knew who we were (she's in a home now and does not recognize people anymore.) I couldn't just stick it in a goodwill box not knowing if they would incinerate it. Well, as it happened, my friend's daughter was getting married - right out of college like I did - she was already living with her husband, same as I did... so the apartment already had been established and she didn't need household gifts. She's a church-goer herself and loves cooking. I knew she would appreciate a handmade cookbook from a tiny church in Maine so I gave it to her (with a card and some money) as a wedding gift. I felt better getting rid of this item knowing it had found a good home!

Yay, thanks for the shout out, R! Always fun to be in such wonderful decluttering company 👋😄💖🇩🇰
"Where would I look for it" ... good question. That's when putting similar items in one spot helps. Those googly eyes would be in my sewing supplies with the lace and buttons.
My Mom passed away and I inherited her stuff, which also contained my Grandma's stuff. My house is small, so it was difficult. I decided that I was only going to keep the things that brought me the most joy. I chose only the things that would enhance my needs. I still have decluttering to do, but I'm getting there.

Very good video.
I am blessed w/a yoga room that has a ‘spare’ closet in my home. As I downsize to move overseas this has been my de-cluttering approach ‘either I make $ selling it or I pay to move it’ WOW! What a motivator. So as I go through an area, the pile of what to sell can get huge…enter the yoga closet. For 2 yrs I have been moving these items into that closet, listing them by season etc and if I found I had been overzealous & there was something I ACTUALLY needed that accidentally got culled, I rotated it back in. Out of ~3K items so far there have been < half dozen things that got back into the closets = )
Number 1 is actually counter productive for me. If I'm wavering this means that I need to proceed with caution. I don't always have the funds to replace an item I rushed to get rid of. I need to find out why I don't have a clear yes or no about it, then I can decide.

I love the last tip. For me, it's about greeting cards. Going through a box of photos the other day, I realized that I had been keeping greeting cards that have sentiments way too long. I realized that I felt like I owe it to the person who gave it to keep it, in case I want to look back on it later in life. And here I am, later in life, and I find that it is behind me and I just want to move on. So from now, I think it just makes sense to throw them out instead of storing them.

I Just had a Total Victory 😅 on the where would I look for it First… last year (at the end of the football season, I washed jerseys that my older kids needed to use for their jobs - they work in the restaurant business.) so when they came out of the dryer, I thought…hmmm, where would I look for this first next year..(in my laundry cubby was what I came up with) - so they were securely there for 7 months. In the wee hours of the morning…I heard a family member was looking for the shirt. When I woke up early, I asked myself…hmm where would I look for that first and I remembered the laundry cubby. YES - Victory for the Family member that needed it 🎉 During the season they keep it in their room, so that’s easy. Thanks Ladies for All the hard work you put into Sharing ❤

I like Swedish Death Cleaning…I don’t want my family to be burdened going thru my “stuff.” I am continuing to weed thru the excess and am only keeping the things I actually use and like. My husband and kids need me more than I need an extensive book or yarn collection. I really don’t like cleaning and when I have to pick up before I can even start cleaning…oh the frustration! What about when you are in debt/low income and a naturally resourceful person, but life is too busy at the moment to repair or create the things that you really love. For eg there are things that are precious to me, like photos of my kids, and some really nice photo frames that I have kept or found in charity shops which I intend to put together “some time soon I hope” and I live in quite a small house, so space is of a premium. I also have a beautiful spinning wheel that was left to my daughter by much love friend who died. My daughter is very creative/craft type person and really needs that kind of thing for her mental health but doesn’t feel into it so much at this time. Want to pick it up over the winter months. I have loads more examples like this how do you choose, because they are a big yes, but not able to be used right now so anyway they are a big yes for the future… THANKYOU! Xx

My Ninja Oven is currently cluttering precious countertop real estate because the instructions said expressly to NOT put it next to you stovetop? So, it is not serving me, but it is more of a yes than a no. oh help! Have you ever had issues with having the Ninja oven next to your stove top? The instructions never even hint at what they may be? So why in the world is that even a thing? Also, yours looks very clean. Instructions also say not to line with alum foil (though individuals in reviews say they do if they tuck it on the rack very tightly), so how do you keep it so clean? If i could use the oven safely, not creating something impossible to wash, I would def have more time to declutter. Thanks for your video!
