'Trespass' is the most important Genesis album. It paved the way for the music that made Genesis among the best and most beloved and respected prog bands ever. 23 October 1970. 50th anniversary this year. There won't be other 50th anniversary, so please give us a deserved deluxe edition. Original mixes haven't been available on CD for 25 years, when 'Definitive Edition remaster' came out. Drenched in no-noise. Remixes could've been better. I know a brand new stereo & 5.1 mixes would be much welcomed among fans. Also, all the 1970 BBC Sessions (incl 'Jackson Tapes') and Roundhouse 1970, the only visual document of the band with Anthony Phillips. None of us is getting any younger. It's now or never. And please, all the subsequent albums in deluxe format as well. Thank you!

I agree. The drumming all over Trespass is innovative, beautifully executed, superbly recorded, and it pushed every song in the direction it needed to be pushed. Magistral et surtout pour l'époque. Un an plus tard Phil Collins arrivera et Genesis existe encore aujourd'hui grâce à Phil ! 2021 Genesis and Phil still THE BEST in this world. Aucun groupe encore à ce jour n'arrive à leur niveau. Perfection musicale et vocale. Thank you so much from Paris.

This was released as a single, absolutely majestic song... Tony Banks: “The Knife“ was an important song for us to write, because quite a lot of what wed done up to the point was quite soft and acoustic. Peter (Gabriel) wrote what you might call the best bit. We started trying all this extra stuff not just guitar solos, but really structured instrumentals. A lot of the songs had quite simple starting points we allowed ourselves to stretch.

Like Bryan said, this is a remaster, and for some reason the remaster is slightly faster. The copy you are playing on your turntable is probably the original track that isn't sped up, I noticed this with my vinyl copy.

Not sure how many people here are even aware that this song was written about the Kent State Shootings of 1970 where 4 students were killed and several more badly injured by bullets from the Ohio state guard. Some of the kids killed weren't even protesters but bystanders. :( An incident that was mirror just a few weeks later at Jackson State in Mississippi when two students were killed by hundreds of flying bullets from soldiers attacking students. Crazy sad!

I did not know that. Also a good reminder how real it gets when the youth start making noise about pentagon wars. solved partly due to ending any fear of a draft and substituting public awareness of foreign war wirh a solid national diet of domestic wedge issues to divide us.

@@agnieszkajaniszewska9176 Yeah, I've never heard this either. "The Knife" originally started as a song called "The Nice" and it was Gabriel's attempt to write a song similar to what the band by that name (which included Keith Emerson on keyboards) was doing at the time.
