@@whong09 actually on second thoughts I might have spoken too soon. But yeah so far it seems like he intends to main inkling with wolf as a secondary. He's going kinda tryhard with inkling on stream right now and has nothing but good things to say about her/him. But again, this is like day 1 post tourney, so he has yet to properly try some other characters that has been recommended to him (e.g. roy, pikachu?)

@@dittom3426 They are. And they're not bad games. But they're wildly over-exposed compared to the rest of the series. Some of us prefer other entries in the series. Not because they're older, but because we love the characters. It's like if every single Pokémon thing for the last five years was about Kalos and Alola, except different versions of Kalos and Alola that had none of the other Pokémon from the other regions. A lot of Pokémon fans would be sick of Kalos and Alola. It's the same with Fire Emblem. It's reasonable to be tired seeing the same characters over and over.

Ike's nair is a great spacing tool with nonexistent lag and huge hitbox, great combo tool that racks up quick damage, sets up to kill confirms like up air and bair. It does everything

@@pesky2119 It's also unsafe on block w/out spacing, very whiff punishable, and slow to come out (thus losing most air-to-air interactions against fast aerials). Spacing aerials is pretty much all Ike can do in neutral, and there's clear and consistent counterplay. To say that it's an oppressive option, comparable to Smash 4 Sheik fair, or Brawl MK Tornado, would be absurd. MKLeo wins because he's applying his fundamentals - which are the best in the game - to a character that relies and thrives on fundamentals. At the top level of play, landing a nair as Ike requires you to outplay at some level.

@@pesky2119 N-air is also highly parryable. There is no doubt about when it's coming to get you because it starts so high. The fairly probable mindset of "he's gonna nair cuz that's the best" also makes it very susceptible to predictions that are good against it. Ike also had a HIGHLY gimpable recovery (notice I say gimpable, not short. There's a difference), making his options go get back on stage questionable against good players (see everytime Leffen dairs Ike as example 1). Ike looks really good and simple with MKLeo cuz he's really fucking good and makes everything looks smooth. Kinda like Tweek with Wario. Stop overreacting. Stop oversimplifying. Ur acting like the type of people that hate Fox in melee. Just get better, it is possible.

The reason people are salty is because the Ike player just naired and grabbed. Leffen was actually zoning, making reads, edgeguarding, etc. And no the "durrr why don't you just play Ike" isn't an excuse. It doesn't magically change his nair from having no lag, it's just an appeal to accomplishment fallacy. Basically Leffen had to work 3 times harder than MKLeo for the same results. Nair just did basically all the work for him, it was low IQ with little effort vs big IQ and lots of effort.

Yeah I don't play Ike but every time someone spams nairs with Ike I get the punish, so to see leffen unable to punish it at all makes me think with proper spacing it's actually really good. Definitely not brain dead otherwise he'd be getting punished for it.

I seeing 4 Ikes online today in quickplay spamming the same short hop Nair it is soo braindead for a character that have the safest move with less landing lag.

amazing plays from both players! Just interesting that Leo never got a chance to punish any of those Ivysaur's ledge regrabs in this match.

Nah, he's right. It's mk as the final boss. Zero would be put to shame now. The one invitational tournament don't mean shit. Lotta people would smack down zero. Samsora, tweek, Ally, probably even void now.

That's the thing about MKLeo, and the main reason of he being my favorite player, he learns so damn fast, you can see this in almost every match up, the first couple of rounds he does okayish, and the he obliterates his opponents, he's a real prodigy, he learns patterns so fast and applies corrections on the go.

@@HalXV Aerials*, why can nobody spell? And no thanks, I have a real job and I don't like this game enough to play it for more than an hour at a time. It's slow and incredibly repetitive. Sakurai would never make a smash game that can be played at a truly high competitive level on purpose, hence why melee is the only smash game that is fun to watch. He isn't the best player in the world either, game hasn't been out for long and lots of people haven't dedicated themselves to playing it. Leo has no other choice.

I'm so proud of both dudes, that had me on the edge of my seat!

People can say what they want about Leo, but that combo off of dair at 8:59 was clean

This video showed up in recommendations and i remember how everyone used to say Ike’s nair was broken, he was carried, etc etc yet nobody could achieve the same results, Leo’s gameplay combined with his game knowledge/understanding makes him who he is!

These commentators were pretty much climbing over each other to ride leffen. The amount of bias in this match is unreal.

Man Leffen used to be good enough to touch Leo. Now he whines about bowser for 2 hours.

The entire stream chat during this was spamming “YO DID HE JUST SLOWLY WALK UP AND NAIR”

I don't get why people are complaining about ike's neutral air hitbox when ivysaur has a giant down air and up air. They're both good characters

Hey, to anyone complaining about Ike, don’t mistake “broken” for viable. I was an Ike main since Brawl and through smash 4. He’s my secondary now since Inkling made it in(my #2 most wanted character for Smash). When I mained Ike, I was well aware he was mid-low tier at best in previous games, but still had potential. He’s actually a good character now which makes me happy since my favorite FE lord. Even being good, he still has flaws: linear/exploitable recovery(even though it’s a solid recovery, it is predictable), weight(a lot of characters can combo him will since he doesn’t have a good escape move and weighs a lot), and lack of ability to handle projectiles well(seriously, how much did Leffen used razor leaf?). Ike is really good in this game, but he deserves to be. He was considered low/mid tier in the past, and dedicated Ike players can now have a taste of what it’s like to be viable. Even though I’d win locals with Ike in smash 4, it wasn’t brain dead. May I even add, it still isn’t brain dead.

It's that simple. They know how to play the fundamentals well. They read well. They have great instincts. Ike is easily exploitable, but their skills are honed. Get over it. Anyone saying he's "broken" or "braindead" is literally just making excuses, and they know it- and that's exactly why they're getting so salty from their own tears too much to realise they just need to get better at the game. Only scrubs and frustrated middle of the road players complain about this kind of stuff in the first place. Skilled players just deal with it and improve. If they get beaten, they take the beating and learn from it. They don't whine. I believe the phrase is... get good?

Sebastien Lessore at the time, I wanted Azura from FE: Fates, since she was one of the few Fire Emblem characters with unique moveset potential. She’s a mythical songstress who wields a lance, and she has a lot of similar qualities to that of a water bender. I think she was a better pick than Corrin imo. At this point though, I’m kinda done with FE characters for this game. Now I kinda just want more games represented in smash.

Dayum, that was like an anime fight choreography. Leo really picked up on that last match too. You could see his reaction times grow over the set especially that last match, he was getting that adrenaline rush for sure.

This is the most entertaining match I’ve watched in Ultimate so far.

I absolutely love Ike's moves in Ultimate.

The Ike player is also playing well. He short hopped over low tilt attacks, behind Ivysaurs whips, he blocked stuff well, recovered nicely, etc. It was a fun game to watch.

Problem is ivy is the best of the three and if you can’t get much going then it’ll slowly crumble. Once MkLeo downloaded ivy it was all over.

He switched to ivy cause squirtle doesnt have good kill options and charizard is very unsafe. Ivy has many good kill options and zoning plus nair is preety good. But ike nair lmao

@@xStealthPigeon Most of the times he got a kill was when he got leo off stage with squirtle and then switched to ivy to finish the edgeguard. But most of the times he switched to ivy in neutral he just got blown up.

​@@xStealthPigeon Leff is used to swapping to ivy past 40% and then charizard above 100%, but in this case his ivy was getting out-zoned/comboed by Ike and he had a lot better success with Squirtle getting the % up because he's faster, smaller hitbox, and lighter making it harder to combo.

I give respect to leo... he is the only guy who doesn't spam nair. He uses his bairs and dairs very effectively. Everyone says that ike is his nair, but mkleo shows that ike is more than just nair all the time. Please quit blaming leo's win on "ikes nair" because leo didn't win just because ike is a good character. Leo won due to his smarts and skill. Leffen is a very good player and there is no way you could win by just simply spamming nair. Spamming nair isn't as good as you think it is lol.

As an Ike main (and nowhere near as good as these guys obviously), I tend to rarely use nair just because of the notion that it's become godlike. People like to account for it when they play you and it can lose its usefulness. You need to adapt, and Leo does that well.

Besides, it’s about the amount of active frames, (or invincibility frames in some cases), the move has, and if it can immediately combo into other shit. His Nair is wackdaddy

I grew up with smash 4 so when this ike pro main is "fighting for smash 4 honor" i want to thank him

Man if Charizard gets a couple buffs to his neutral, Pokemon trainer is gunna be so amazing. And it's already such a fun character to watch. Imagine if the Charizard came out for more than just up smash! I want to see some sick combos like Leffens amazing edge guards with Squirtle/Ivy in this set!

You can feel this match same like watching Light vs Nike or Samsora vs Nike

so glad to see my main get used so well!!!

Something that i love of ssbu is that literally everyone is here including the best players from past games due to the Aumented complexity and speed

I come back to this match whenever I watch a video of Leffen being cocky and want to see him get destroyed

this is a pretty bad video to go to then, look at m2k's 6-0 vs leffen. leffen said he was two levels above m2k in mid 2015 (when leffen was best in the world), then mew2king destroyed him

Back when we thought Ike was top tier

Even though leffen got knocked out, I’m so proud of him and his run... my god he’s talented.

Watching leffen play is so fucking exciting, please keep playing. So good

Seeing Leffen lose does bring a smile to my face.

@@Daniel-uy1sv Probably because of the antics that surround Leffen. He's a good smash player, but his personality leaves a lot to be deserved. But you won't see that here.

The fact that some people in the comments actually think that Ultimate Ike is anywhere close to being on par with Brawl Meta Knight due to one lousy move is just sad...

8:35 was the biggest brain play ever. Leffen's applications of Squirtles water gun are amazing.

Because -people won't get the same results with Ike when compared to their current main and say that they don't need to use braindead and/or broken characters and/or moves as an excuse despite being terrible with their current main- some people actually have skill and don't need to use braindead and broken characters.

Whoever the best player in the world plays is the best character in the game apparently

Leo had amazing movement around the razor leaf

Man, leffen game 2 was absolutely insane that one recover was giant brain

Leffen took out Seagull Joe and Wadi and then put up a close fight against #2 seed and arguably the best player in the game.. once again, proving the horrible seeding wrong. Pls no more garbage seeding give him the bracket he deserves from now on.

@@Yokai_Yuri do you understand how seeding works?.. top level players shouldn't play each other at such an early round. Did you watch MkLeos other games? Leffen was easily his toughest opponent on his way to top 8.

Leffens Squirtle is absolutely insane

@Advance Tubberson l8 but wouldn't that just make Leffen a trash player? It's a fact that Ike's nair is easily whiff punishable, any good player should be able to read the matchup and force the Ike to shift strategies or lose. (Or maybe Leffen is an amazing player and MKLeo is just insane with any character he dedicates his time to, and this is bad logic)

Biggest takeaway to learn from Leo is to use Ike’s upB as little as possible to get back

Big tournament, lotta players too, probably biggest ultimate tournament so far

I see nobody talking about leo's parry or his amazing work on recovery or punish ivysaur

You'd think he'd learn to not summon Ivysaur. Everytime he used it he kept loosing.

ALWAYS happy to see Ike in a tournament, but to see Ike win? Priceless. Viva México y Viva Fire Emblem

Just knowing Ike is actually good makes me happy. Despite what others might say, I enjoy watching and playing Ike.

Damn I was rooting for Leffen to win, surprising for me to feel this way. I don't hate him, but I love see PT do well. He really needs to stay Squirtle in certain situations and then switch to Ivysaur instead of swtiching to Ivy anytime he needs to get the kill. Squirtle has good neutral options, mobility, good edge guarding tool in water gun and can set up tech chase situations that can lead to locks. We see him do it and he needs to rely on it more. He also needs to truly work on his Charizard more instead of just throwing out kill options, he should be great with all of them at the current moment. Leo was good at mixing things up while knowing his confirms.

As you can see clearly it is mkleo's character that carried his totally not like he is just the best player in the world

He may have lost but Leffen really gunning hard to break that glass ceiling for Melee players to become Smash players

Seeing an Ike player makes me happy

I knew he would take a game at least but not the set gg to Leffen though like I said before If Leffen gave all his time to Ultimate he could easily be a top 10 player

12 hours a day seems pretty much like all of his time...

interesting how melee players can't really reach top rankings of ultimate and vice versa. Very different games, I wanna say that melee requires fast reaction-time whereas ultimate requires really hard reads on your opponent

Leffen definitely could have been in Ultimate if he kept playing but, he just didn't really want to. And, I think Leo could be a top 10 player in melee if that's what he decided to put his mind to, he's just too fucking good. Taking time to practice and learn melee is all he would have to do, he's already got that top player brain which, is the harder thing to learn of the 2.
