    GMC's trailer brake control location makes more sense in the center console I think. Easier to find and reach when needed. It also means your arm doesn't need to leave the center console storage lid either. Overall, it's a more convenient location, especially for those that tow regularly.

    I’m not sure why you would need easier access to the point it’s 1 second faster to get to? I tow trailers with trailer brakes on a consistent basis (almost every day) and I have never gone “huh really need to use that brake controller today, wish it was in a more convenient spot”. They are fixing what isn’t broken imo. That could be 2 more cup holders, or a cubby for storage or(?) idk, doesn’t make much sense to me

  • @domin8ss

    @domin8ss

    @HoweSound what you also don't know is the blank space right above the trailer brake controller is where the AUX switches go for things like lights and snowplow controls. Much better location than lower dash on the left side between the steering wheel and parking brake button on the 2019-2022 trucks.

  • @dallasfrost1996

    @dallasfrost1996

    Жыл бұрын

    @@Durataur Understandable. That's my opinion, you have yours. Some trucks have the trailer brake controls posistioned in the lower dash area mixed in with other switches and knobs, or worse, tucked away behind the steering wheel somewhere. Not always the most easily accessible locations for trailer brake controls, especially in scenarios where they're in urgent need. With the center console location, the trailer brake controls are right there out in the open looking at you. Can't mistake them for anything else either. As for the wasted space comment, there's still two cup holders and storage tray. Plus, if it's a 1/2 ton truck, you'll also have the electronic console shifter as well. So having the trailer brake controls there as well isn't going to make much of a difference. Many others out there would agree with me on the location, I know I'm not the only one. Everyone's different though. Which is completely fine.

    The entire US towed for 3 decades with brake controllers self tapped to the panel below the steering column. Have you ever seen the inside of a truck after a 5-10 hour trip? There’s drinks and snacks everywhere and now there’s a giant plastic panel where I can put anything and has the potential for stuff to slide into the brake controller.

    Everybody was bitching because GM put the trailer brake on the left side above the headlight knob. and now ppl still bitching because the trailer brake is in the right side where you can easily access it. Smh foh

  • @Dmaxtyler
    @Dmaxtyler Жыл бұрын

    No the trailer brake controller is there for a reason and it’s not that one. If your hauling a decent sized trailer you want to be able to grab that as fast as possible in the case of a emergency. Gm actually came out with a video explaining exactly why it’s there

    I have an old 2003 Chevy Express cargo van. It is really reliable but my only gripe is the location of the cigarette lighters (2). They are in the engine dog house. WTF?

    I have a 2021 at4 hd and tow a big cargo trailer daily. Never once have I wanted the controller closer. Like others said it takes up valuable space in the center console that could be used for storage. The new location of the brake controller makes even less sense when you realized 80% of heavy duty truck drivers rarely even tow. These high end trims are just a status symbol.

    You sit back in your seat. If you're in a emergency and have to use the trailer break it is in arms reach without leaning forward better location overall.

  • @justinkase1360

    Prefer the much larger start button that you will use every time you get in the truck... And there is nothing wrong with that location for trailer brake controls.

    That trailer brake being basically at arms reach like that is way easier..... if you actually use it i guess it's less intrusive? (assuming your arm doesn't touch it then that would be annoying)

    That's not the only problem with that design. If you reach down to adjust the HVAC system without taking your eyes off the road (like you should) then you may accidentally hit that stop/start button. I hope it is designed so that it only responds to commands while the car is in Park or that could be dangerous.

  • @69sound81
    @69sound81 Жыл бұрын

    If this is about an HD model like a 2500 or a 3500 it is a great thing that they moved it closer to the driver into a spot where the hand will be very comfortable operating it without adjusting the drivers position. Now, without proper knowledge of the ergonomics of the new GMC sierra and Chevy silverado, it is better to have it there in my opinion. But if you have a 1500 version of the truck, then it makes you loose valuable space in the center console for a feature most owners don't use more than 2 to 4 times per year. So, If you tow a lot, it is nice, if you don't...better things could be done

  • @jakesilva6692
    @jakesilva66926 күн бұрын

    Pretty sure they did that purposely... if you tow, you know it's annoying to have to reach forward for the trailer brakes...

    @BenHardyCars , I think you need to do alot more research on what you are going to be talking about in your videos before you make/post them. This is only the case in 2024 GMC Sierra 1500, 2500 and 3500 trims: AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. Not “Every new Sierra”. You are giving false information not only in this video but MANY of your videos. For some people that don’t know alot about vehicles this is an issue. For someone like me that pays attention and looks for every detail in a vehicle it is not. Food for thought.
