    Hi Sam, thank you. Fantastic news, the development of EV is staggering. In just 20 years, we are seeing huge technology improvements, as you have previously pointed out. It won't stop here, in 12months these improvements will start to look obsolete. Prices are also becoming regular events with reductions each month. Australians are already on board and will rapidly accelerate sales of new EVs. Truly, great times to witness, motoring history being made. Great posts

Was considering 001 before when this fantastic price was revealed, I would wanna buy 7X, but I suspect it will be too expensive, it have to get a much higher price range than 001.

I've seen many issues with them. Maybe they are great, but it will take me a few generations of a brand before I would touch them, similar to when tesla started, I wouldn't have bothered with them. Tesla should take this competition seriously, and they probably will. And Elon; It's not just the technology, but also the design. 😳 I like a lot of what Tesla manages to do in the electric car market, but the design, especially on the Model Y, can they do a much more innovative makeover than on the Model 3?😳 Will they?😳 I don't think so😞 The FSD seems to impress, but I love driving my car myself as long as my health allows. After that, FSD can be a great option for personal transport if the authorities allow it.😉👍🏻

    I'm curious, is 500kW charging achieved with a bigger wire guage in the charging cable or a higher DC voltage, above 800V?

  • @davidbrayshaw3529

    @davidbrayshaw3529

    17 күн бұрын

    Power in watts is the multiple of Voltage (E or volts) and current (I or amps). i.e. 1 amp times 500,000 volts = 500kwh, or alternatively you could have 500,000 amps times 1 volt = 500kwh. Either way, it's a heck of a lot of power. It's enough power to supply the average Australian house for nearly a month. I'm noy joking, nor stretching the truth. Batteries require a voltage slightly in excess of their nominal voltage to charge. So to charge an 800 Volt battery, you'll need a power supply that runs at 800 and "something" volts. The amount of current pushed by this voltage will determine the charging rate over time, or "power". So, for a 60kwh 800v. battery to be charged in the space of an hour... 60,000/800= 75 amps. That's a bit more current than a typical Australian house is fused at, and it's more than three times the power than your typical Australian house can consume with absolutely everything turned on in it and running flat out. So, if that went all over your head, you need a heck of a big power supply, to start with. i.e. a new substation in close proximity to high tension lines. Secondly, you're going to need a pretty big charging cable. Voltage/Current = Resistance. Resistance produces heat, so you need a low resistance conductor and one that can dissipate heat. And just think about this. To put this all in context, to something that you can relate to, 500kwh is enough power to run 375 average Australian homes for 1 hour. It's a breathtaking amount of power. But it's enough power to be able to charge a 60kwh battery in less than 10 minutes, not accounting for physical limitations. It's a big deal to the EV community. Is it going to be practical to rollout these sorts of chargers en masses? You can do the maths on that.

    @@davidbrayshaw3529 I know. I was doing the sums in my head. 500kW at 800V implies cables that can carry 625 Amps plus some headroom for safety while charging. The starter motor in my car doesn't carry that much current and the leads are very short and quite heavy. So, my question is this, "Are Geely introducing a new 1200V or 1600V (next in the sequence {400V, 800V, ...} DC charging capability or are owners going to need to go to the gym and pump iron." At 1200V the cable carries 417A; at 1600V the cable carries a more reasonable 313A. If the latter I presume existing cables might have insulation and connectors good enough for the higher voltage. I suppose a 500kW charging capability could be implemented as dual 250W charging where the battery pack is charged in two halves with independently negotiated charge rates. It would mean finding a charging station with two working superfast chargers side-by-side.

  • @davidbrayshaw3529

    @@emmaatkinson4334 Firstly, I must apologise as I have misinterpreted your question. Given the amount of knowledge that you have demonstrated in your second post, you know as much as me and probably a whole lot more. I too wonder how such huge currents can be managed in a system such as this. Surely the battery is split into multiple circuits to be able to achieve this. I'm guessing that battery banks are isolated from being in parallel with the whole unit in order to reduce current. Perhaps the battery's series connections can somehow be changed to accept higher voltages? I don't know, is the answer. Whether it be 625 amps or 313 amps, those numbers are ridiculously high at just about any of the voltages that we're discussing, here. Yes, a vehicle starter motor may draw even more than that, but how long is it drawing that current for? Time is a "thing" in electronics, especially when it comes to resistance (heat). I am of the understanding that liquid cooling is used on other high current charging systems. Perhaps that, in combination with "up specced" transmission lines and internal battery "temporary re-wiring" would make this possible? Once again, I don't know. You've left me with more questions than answers! Just the same, thank you for your reply. If you do manage to make sense of this, I would appreciate any clarification that you can offer. Cheers, David.

    Without a doubt, the Chinese car takes the lead. And do you know why? It's simple. In today's world of electric vehicles, the key components that matter most are the battery and software. Personally, I prefer doing it myself rather than depending on self-driving technology. In our household, my wife opts for the BYD seal while I confidently drive the Tesla Model 3. Surprisingly, the BYD outperforms my car by a significant margin.

    Yes, you might. But after a few years, people normally buy a new car. There's nothing else from Tesla, you won't buy the same car again. And here's when and why the Chinese brands are in demand

    @@user-uj9fl3rd7nwhy the hell not? I have a MY and I'm planning on replacing it by the juniper MY when it comes out. And if it was not coming out I would just replace it with a new MY. I don't see why the hell I would take the risk of going to anything else when this one is near perfect (for me) already. I'm pretty sure anything else would be worse. Why bother?

    I am not sure why you are referring to outside China as international. World trade rules should apply universally. If 7X is not good outside China, its not good in China. People outside China get annoyed when China just wants to use its own rules. These cars are cheap because of illegal labour practices, including child labour.

    Tesla has already lost the game. Consumer products are not their focus anymore. Tesla is not capable to innovate fast enough anymore. One new car out in five years, which is a childish toy for non-grown-ups needing some boost to their manhood.
