The last samurai is definitely a must watch Tom Cruises character definitely written well with a great backstory. Really worth watching

idk why they went and confirmed anything but I'm pretty sure, and by "pretty sure" I mean absolutely confident that there were varying levels of gay that were simply never addressed as gay in Japan. For example, monks could not sleep with women, but they could go to the red-light district and sleep with guys dressed like Geisha. There were similar types of gay with the gladiators in Rome and basically everywhere since conservative societies were hell bent on segregating men and women and as a result, maximizing the likelihood of gay. It seemingly wasn't until the more recently that soldier could go out to a brothel for their needs as opposed to grape and pillage. So we ultimately have to wait for the story and writing because it may not be trash. Them being diverse isn't an issue. Diverse writing reading something like what was going on with the CW and shows like Batwoman is cancer. Historically, it can fit and they can do something interesting with their whole knight templar background as they connect these dots. But as long as it's not pivotal to the story and is simply a character trait, it's a non-issue. The same way Yasuke is portrayed in media and games is almost 1 for 1 Venom and Zato-1. Promoting it ends up being most of the issue. The reason we can say that people having an issue with Yasuke, simply for the sake of him being black, are racist is ironically because of the diversity people were force fed in the later half of the last century. Otherwise, if art would have ever progressed this far, well we probably wouldn't be commenting on it publicly as black people, but if we were it would be an entirely different issue and that issue would be the fact that it is completely fine to shite on black people. It's not like people didn't know DEI was the goal when shows like Sanford and Son, and The Jeffersons aired but it doesn't change the fact that it paved the way for blacks to show up in media with significantly less stigma though we still get it. Ironically, again, things were good until Black Panther and now whenever we get a black character reveal, it's the same Killmonger hairstyle. DEI and the knowledge of it does not devalue something. The execution does. A lot of the DEI takes in the last decade have come from poor execution but also because the audience has aged and is finally now capable of detecting political context in their media as they are no longer dumb kids. A lot of folks will blame Disney for whatever is going on with Marvel and Star Wars but these things were "woke" ages before I was born and looking back, if someone like TheQuartering could swap places with his 14 year old self, he would have never been a fan of something like the X-Men since they're always shoving Civil Rights allegories in your face. And arguably, the issue with modern Star Wars is not the representation but the lore. Disney went and uncanonized a significant portion of the extended universe then started doing their own thing. Amen to the sheep mentality though. By that I mean chill with the sin shite. There's a certain special irony in getting the feeling that I'm being preached at by someone complaining about essentially being preached to by way of DEI and honestly an even worse hubris in claiming to know, understand, or follow the word of any god which is what you're doing when you declare anything to be "sin".
