Thank you for the kind words and I am glad you enjoyed your time with Gates. Gates does address the majority of your concerns by adding more of basically everything including enemies, citizens, starting cards, and heroes. For me the fun of creating Gates was actually trying to get as much game as I could into a small tin. I do think I will revisit the tower-defense/deck-building mechanic in a larger format at some point. Lastly, I agree that the hero cards do come out at bad times once and a while and that is frustrating, and I do not like my players feeling that way. I have told folks that when one come in this fashion, that they can discard and redraw, hoping for the hero to pop up again later and at a better time. Thanks again and happy gaming!
I've seen GATE come up in forums and discussions, but haven't seen a breakdown of how it plays. Thank you for your clear and articulate overview!
Just a note- there are two difficulty levels. The red side of the Gate, Farm, and Tower are more difficult.
Thank you Liz for this review. I really enjoy the stylized artwork.
I had the same issue with Gate in that it gets stale too quick. But it’s a nice change in pace to have a game that leaves me wanting more. Gates really expands the game to me in a good way by just offering more. It does stretch the game length. The base difficulty feels even easier. I haven’t tried yet, but each town card has a harder backside and players can mix and match the hard sides..or use all the town cards on the hard side! Thanks for covering a smaller game and thanks for the review!
I received the base game and Gates expansion a few weeks back from TGC but didn't have a chance to play it yet. Thanks for covering Gate. I really need to dig in and play this game. As always, I enjoy watching your reviews and playthroughs.
Perfect timing, thanks for the video. Been eyeing this along with Iron Helm and expansions on the GC sale. I feel I should just put it all in the cart and click...
Just saw a review of a game called Deckula from this same website! Both of these games look fun. I am going to grab a few! Thanks for the review!
Awesome, just got the PNP version from PNP arcade. Unfortunately, I cannot find the PNP GATES expansion. The expansion adds so much variety and fixes a lot of limitations. I love Jason Glover games and agree that his rules can be better. I just picked up Iron Helm and all the expansions, and in love with it.
Thank you very much for the awesome video!
Seems like a really cool game. I love small fast games. At 20$ for base and 20$ for the expansion, it's a little expensive. There are a lot of really good games I could get for around 40$-50$. If I ever see Gate+ Gates for 20$ I might have to pick it up

It goes on sale periodically. Also, GameCrafter print-on-demand, so costs are just different. There is no backing from a major publisher to do a mass printing and drive prices down.
