What I liked about Gate was contrary to almost all strategic games where you get all kinds of professionnal soldiers. In Gate you make the best of what you can have. Often it is less than ideal but you have to try to succeed.

Funny how even the developer keep forgetting to utilize the new barricade mechanics more on some perfect occasions (like instead of just repairing 2 you can avoid 2 damage AND apply 1 damage to an enemy). But the barricades from the Clay Golem at the end killing Zogar were awesome. Very nice playthrough. Great expansion for an amazing base game. I am ordering it immediately (plus Tin Helm that I was delaying for too long, those 3 promo cards definitely encouraged me haha nice marketing trick right there). Keep up the good work, Jason. You are a very talented designer. Can't wait for your next project.

Thanks for the kind words. Like many other designers I have talked with, we often are not the best at playing our own designs... lol

I haven't read the rules but during wave 1 a spEYEder was attacking you but a barricade blocked the attack and dealt a damage back killing the enemy. The question I have is when enemies attack do the damage and fear not go at the same time? Or does the barricade stop the fear as well? Or does killing the enemy in the middle of an attack stop the fear from adding to the fearamid?

Another timing question: the first time you use the assassin it mentions to trash a card from your hand. You had already used the peddler and it was in the discard but chose to remove that from the game. Are cards in your hand until the use phase is done? The second time you used assassin you didn't trash a card. Really looking forward to getting both tins and hope we can see an all red side playthrough before the campaign ends

If the barricade kills the enemy, then no fear is added to the fearamid. If the barricade only injures the enemy, then fear is still applied. Good question.

The Assassin card allows you to trash a card in hand after using it, meaning you can use a card in your hand and then use the assassin to trash that card. You do not have to take this action though.

Awesome game but very unhappy we can't find it from Europe retailers.

Hello Jason i would like to start playing your games. Which do you prefer on start? Gate+ gates or Tin helm or something other? How about replayiablie?

Totally missed the launch of Gates *and* Dustrunner, but picked them up during the Howling Abyss crowd sale. Have really enjoyed your games so far and the artwork is incredible.

I really like the mat, but it pushes up shipping with about $13... how essential is it?

I have the playmat for Tin Helm and Gate. They are useless but really really fun to have.

if I kill the 2nd enemy in play. do I still advance the enemy who should leave or does he stay in place?

I'm thinking no. I thought the rules were pretty clear. That you only "advance" the first enemy forward if a third enemy shows up. So if you kill either one then the remainder would not "advance" the next turn to deal that 1 dmg to the gate. I hope I'm right

Wasnt gonna get the playmat originally, but after watching, it may be worth it.

That didn’t look challenging at all. This game is only good in hardcore mode.

The tutorial game definitely was in my favor throughout, I got some great citizens early and did quite well. Standard mode has about 50% success rate and really meant to be less of a challenge and to teach you the basics. Hardcore mode is definitely on another level.

@@jasonglover6615 only 50 %? So I haven't even been close to losing. not in the basegame and not in the expansion. I can imagine that you can only lose with a lot of bad luck. I'll definitely try the hardcore mode now, because the game isn't much fun that way
