Part 12: • Gary Payton: Larry Bir...
Part 10: • Gary Payton on Threate...
Part 1: • Gary Payton on His Dad...
--------
In this clip, Gary Payton recalls an in-game incident where his trash talking cause Lamar Odom to cry. The former point guard for the Seattle Supersonics shares that his comments about Lamar Odom's late mother caused a riff so deep that their agents had to get involved to help them squash the beef. In the end, Gary Payton expressed that the situation had been resolved when he reached out to Lamar Odom to explain that he had no idea that his mother had passed and that his trash talking was not personal.

I was 36 years old when my mom died and she died suddenly. It was a pain that I had never felt before. It hurt badly. 8 years later and still a GIANT part of my heart gone.

Love Gary Payton… Legendary
Gary said he has mother and respects his mom. Then why would you disrespect another black man's mom whether she had just died or not?. Whether Lamar's mom had died or not, Payton should have shown the same respect for someone else's mom as his own. As a black man in the era in which Payton was born, he is lucky today to live to give this interview because talking about a Black man's mom is definitely a fight to the end. I love how VLAD loves to keep up controversy between black men.

@KevinCantWait08

Yeah, I don’t know how being a black man is relevant at all. I’m Persian, and extremely close with my mother, and I’d go to war with anyone that talked about her disrespectfully. If you’re insinuating that black men take it more personally than people of other races (maybe because a lot of black boys are raised by single mothers?), that’s a possible theory, but there’s no way any of us know if it hits harder for this race or that race. We would all have our own individual reactions, which would mostly be the same, because we love our mothers unconditionally.
