True shit, I was st the team USA game in 2008 in Las Vegas, Gary Payton Scottie pippen and bill Russell were all sitting in the crowd, it was halftime I walked to bill Russell with my nba ball asked for his autograph I was only 12, he told me NO! As I was walking away Gary Payton said give me the ball lil man, he went back autographed it and got bill Russell and pippens autograph for me,I was amazed and hold a certain level of respect for this man!!

I met Payton at a party back in 96 when the All Star game was in San Antonio. Dude was chillin in a corner with a couple dudes and had one holding a tray of champaign. Me and my boys noticed but we didnt "fan girl" out. We was like "what up Payton!" He simply replied "what up young niggas, yall want some Moet!?" He really is cool off the court.

I was watching the Bulls Sonics finals and there's one moment which was a stopped ball, and Gary and Michael were going at it - nothing new. But in the middle of it, Gary kept say "Yes, master. Okay master. Of course, master!" and it actually broke Jordan out of his trash talking frame and started to really crack up. He didn't want to show the he was laughing so he covered his head with his jersey, while you can clearly see him cracking up.

This is why the NBA was better back then. There were more intense rivalries and players hated each other; which made everyone want to win even more. Nowadays, all the stars are best buds, which takes away a fun aspect of the NBA.

fluidacid I'm not saying for players to kill each other on the court. No one wants another malice in the palace. That just ruins the integrity of the game. I just think the NBA is soft when it comes to T'ing players today. Not as competitive as it used to be.

Well, we NBA fans are to blame as well. the MJ era brainwashed people into worshiping players. This made the league huge causing everyone's salary to sky rocket. Now a days players would rather join up and out talent other team. The NBA is still great to watch, there's a lot less iso ball and a lot more read and react offense, mixed with showtime fast breaking athletic players.

No limit trash talk on the court was invented in Oakland; Payton certainly spent a lot of time on those street courts. Imagine the things he heard growing up to gain such an intolerance for the oppositions feelings. That's just one of the reasons why Oakland street ball is the best. That comment is sure to irritate a lot of New Yorkers, but let GP be top of the evidence.

Gary, Brian Shaw, and Jason Kidd were teammates in a summer league at the Kezar in San Francisco. One dude on the opposing team was trash talking Kidd while he was bringing down the ball. Gary literally stole the ball from teammate Kidd and challenged the guy as he trash-talked his way all the way to the ring. He didn't stop there as he went on with his tirade on the way back to the delight of the local crowd who by this time were in stitches.

Well, on Gary Payton talking the air. I imagine it isn't too far fetched considering how useful it is to visualize while you play. That's what most players talk about, visualizing the buzzer going down to take their clutch shot, or visualizing the defender so they can try their moves out. Gary probably just visualizes it and then behaves as he would with a real defender.

When Payton was trash talking the air, he was just practicing for a real game. Just like anybody practices other aspects of their game. He didn't want to say something stupid, or repeat the same insult twice. So I think it made a lot of sense. I like Gary Payton's game. They ought to allow trash talking again in the NBA.
