Worst mistake coach Karl made was not letting GP guard him the whole series.He was probably the best point guard at defending them.. holding MJ to 23 point s a game is unheard of.

I was born in corvallis, and grew up 5miles west of OSU and as a little tyke my family would go to OSU games to watch The Glove in College and watching him clamping down players and being one of the best defensive players in college history, and getting to go watch him live for super cheap is one of my favorite memories being a kid. Loved going to Gill Colliseum and watching him play. One of the goats of defense

I love Gary to this day an still miss the Sonics. The NBA isn't what it was, the weak defense they make these guys play isn't very much fun to watch. Watching GP play defense was awesome.

Abdul-Rauf, Antonio McDyess, Lafayette Lever, Calvin Natt, Penny Hardaway, Nick Anderson, Nick Van Exel, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Stromile Swift (Swift was so athletically gifted. 6'9" 45" vertical. Longer than 6'9" wingspan. He never got coached on any level, I assume because he just was so much more athletic than everyone else he got by without ever developing many skills). Three of my absolute favorites: Baron Davis, Rod Strickland, Mark Price.

Go look at those Sonics vs Bulls again and you will see Gary P lying. It wasn’t him alone that made Jordan have a less tgan 30pt nights, they threw the the team at him. Double and Triple teamed most of the series. No one person can stop Jordan, especially for a series. I watched it in real time back in the day and marveled at the Sonics D on the Bulls. They basically said we gon let the rest of the Bulls team beat us, not MJ lol. Yet he still scored over 22 pts per being beat up and double and triple teamed. Gary never tells the full truth lol but it makes for great commentary. One and one, MJ cooked him. Just look at the numbers over their time playing each other. Glove was a beast regardless. Real deal elite level defender all time.
