Ganglion Cyst Surgery

Ғылым және технология

www.handandwristinstitute.com/... - One of the most common wrist and hand problems that specialists encounter is the ganglion cyst. They are highly mutable condition, and cysts may be found at several different points of the hand, including, but not limited to, the top of the wrist, the knuckles, the outside of the wrist, and the metacarpophalangeal joints at the base of the fingers. Generally, activity increases the size of the ganglion as movement and use can increase the production of the fluid which creates it, while, conversely, rest can temporarily resolve the irritation of the cyst by reducing the amount of fluid, and subsequently, overall size.
Ganglion cysts most often become apparent when patients engage in pushing motions, such as those involved in pushups or certain yoga postures. Unlike some other cysts, traumatic injury is unlikely to have caused the development of ganglions. In the most common iteration, on the top of the wrist, the cyst extends upward from the joint like a balloon, and will manifest tenderness upon palpation.
Generally, an MRI is used to attempt to determine an appropriate diagnosis, but one must take into account that MRI is only effective about 50% of the time. MRI can be useful in finding other related problems, however, such as cartilage and ligament tears.
Some may aspirate a ganglion cyst, but recurrence rates are high, so surgical excision is the best bet. A small incision is made in the wrist above the cyst, and the whole thing, including the trunk, is removed from the scapholunate ligament in the joint of the wrist. The whole procedure takes only 15 minutes, and after a few days of light splinting, activity may be resumed, and should be to avoid stiffness developing. In some cases, arthroscopic surgery may be necessary to determine if damage to the ligament or cartilage, and in this case recovery is slightly longer, up to six weeks. Ganglions may recur in about 5% of cases, but surgical removal keeps this number very low.

Had this exact problem for 7+years. Can't even do one push up with proper form. The three doctors I have seen in San Francisco say I just got to live with this and do not want to operate because it looks like a simple scar to them on the MRI even though I can see a dorsal cyst with my bear eyes. Loved your video, wish you were closer!

put your wrist in a splint every time you feel it hurting. ice and elevate it two times a day, this doesn't cure it but it really helps with the pain. maybe try getting it drained or go to another surgeon because its weird how its come back twice even though it has a five percent chance it will come back.

I just had aspiration done and it came back less than a month later. Money wasted on physical therapy 'recovery' post aspiration. Im doing a surgery in 4 days. Sometimes they really try to take as much money as they can from you before fully solving a problem. Because we all knew it was going to come back. Oh and aspiration shouldn't be painful really at all,I had no anesthetic except for a bit of a spray and I watched the whole thing, so if anyone decides to go for aspiration, don't be scared 😊

Tiffany K most cysts will go away or decrease in size to the point that there is no reason to have surgery. In some cases if the location of the cysts is imparting ligament, tendon or nerve function, surgery might be a solution, or if it is constantly reappearing and persists and effects your day to day life. Surgery has about an 80 to 90 percent chance to remove the cyst and have no re-emergence, aspiration is a simple solution where they drain the meniscal fluid and has a 50 to 60 percent chance that it won't appear again.
