    What I hated about show Stannis (among many other things) was how his character was narrowwed down to a mindless pawn of Melisandre. This scene shows it perfectly. He doesn't even interact with anyone, and just mindlessly throws Davos into a cell. He looks like he doesn't even give a fuck about him. In the book it is way better. Stannis is depressed after his defeat in KL, but still show signs of happiness when he sees Davos again. But the two dumbass writers already stated that they didn't like Stannis character at all

    Show: “i heard u were dead.” then had him arrested at the end of the scene. Book: “so the sea has returned my knight of the fish and onion to me.” “i have missed you, ser. i have need of good counsel, and u never gave me less.” then made him a lord and hand of the king at the end of the scene truly, why the fuck couldn’t they just followed the dialogues from the book?? this scene was supposed to be beautifully written. this why Stannis’ storyline never made sense in the show, bc the show writers were hardly faithful from the source material if this is how they write reunion of two people who values one another, no wonder why Arya and Jon’s reunion was so underwhelming

    Stephen Dillian was phenomenal as Stannis and portrayed the complexity of his character so well but goodness me this scene is the first of many that showed D&D didn’t understand book Stannis. They did a pretty good job in season 2 (not as complex as his book self but generally true to the character) but they started ruining him here. Stannis is the definition of ‘strict but fair’. Sure he may seem like a stern man with a lack of humor but at the end of the day all he does is for the good of the realm and he genuinely cares for his subjects. In the book he didn’t even put Davos in the dungeon, he was the one who let him out. Stannis is one of my favorite character in the books and despite Stephen Dillian’s best efforts, it can’t save what D&D did to him. At least Davos and Melisandre are really well adapted

    Also intriguing to think if they won (or even lost) with her, if all her prophecies/visions were coincidence, like burning his daughter for the snow to melt (can't remember if she also guaranteed he'd "win" the battle vs the Boltons) but earlier way...she rode off and his fate was sealed.

    They would’ve still lost, Stannis’ army was much smaller than the combined Tyrell-Lannister host. And even if they had taken King’s Landing, Lannisters could barricade themselves inside the Red Keep and Stannis had no time to take it as well.

    Maybe she could have turned the tide. But I think they'd still have lost. Melisandres powers would have failed her eventually, like they did at Winterfell. She might have abandoned Stannis Earlier. Ultimately, she believes her own publicity, but she is in the end one Sorceress, who happens to believe her magic comes from the Gods. There is scant evidence this is true. Her magic is real, but is the Lord of Light? I think if she had the kind of power she thinks she does, we'd see a lot more of the Red Gods followers. She certainly thinks she could have won, but I think shes deluded.

    There should be an adult animated series for Game of Thrones. It should be 100% dedicated to the books, with the same voice actors. Sure, some may not want to return, but HBO can find some suitable replacements if they refuse. But they should absolutely get Stephen back. His narrating voice in the siege of Storms End was awesome, showing that he doesn't need to have an onscreen presence to be so cool. Maybe get the same people who made Castlevania. I know their making shows for Netflix, but knowing how Netflix is losing money and subs, it would help Netflix out if HBO came in and snatched those animators up. Then get some fans together to make a plot. Maybe get Alt Shift X or Preston Jacobs. They'll literally write the show for HBO for free! Preston even started his own fanfiction on TWOW, and its awesome! Get the right people to spearhead the project, and maybe sneak in some animators and voice actors who actually understand and maybe even relate to the characters. Stephen Dillane complained that he didn't really understand Stannis as a character. Maybe if he looks at the how much his character matters and how much was deleted in the live action show, I don't see why he would not reprise his role as Stannis the Mannis.

    What about winds of winter and a dream of spring Or do you mean the KZreadrs which you have mentioned have write their own story after the dance with dragons?

  • @elizabethmenjivar1695

    @elizabethmenjivar1695

    Жыл бұрын

    @@Just9n__ What I meant was that if they begin laying the groundwork now for an animated series, they can have a head start. So by the time their covering A feast for crows or A dance of dragons, George would have already released Winds of Winter. Then they can implement it into their narrative. Animating and voicing takes a long time. Imagine if they did start animating right now. It would take a good year to finish up the first season to cover the events within book one: A game of thrones. Even if Winds or Dream isn't out by then, there is still enough material to adapt. Remember, David and Dan basically skipped A dance with dragons and cherry picked events within A feast for crows. If the animators took their time NOW with establishing the animated series, then by the time their finishing up on adapting A dance with dragons, Winds will be out by then. Then, there's sadly the possibility of George not finishing Winds. Right now, he's busy helping out House of the Dragon, and even before that, he wrote the lore for Elden Ring. I heard somewhere that if he were to die (lets hope not), he wouldn't want anyone else to finish writing ASOIAF. BUT whatever is on screen isn't affected. The ones in charge of the animated show will still be able to complete the story/narrative their own way since its an adaptation. So when word reaches them that George is dead (again, I wish him the best of health. I DO NOT want him to die), they can rewrite the future narrative. Remember, the reason why I chose these youtubers is because they are capable of not only finishing George's story on the small-screen, but do it in a way that stays faithful to his world and characters. Stannis isn't going to be defeated by "20 good men" and characters like Littlefinger, Jaime, Brienne and especially Stannis will be treated with more respect than what David and Dan did to them in the later seasons. I hope this answered your question.

    Someone posted a quote from Liam Cunningham where he talked about acting with Stephen Dillane in this scene. He gushed over how Stephen chose to barely react at all when Stannis sees Davos again. How it was a gutsy choice to act so minimally and give Liam practically nothing to act off of. It sounds like a dick move but Liam seems to have so much respect for Stephen as an actor. I really wish I could find that quote again.

    Liam: Stephen Dillane’s reputation preceded him, his work on stage and screen. He’s a very subtle actor. And I was a little intimidated. From day 1, he’s been a complete joy. I love the man’s company, and his choices- [to Carice] What are you laughing at? Carice: You’re just so funny together! Liam: Oh, and his acting choices. I’ll give you an example. When I got back from Blackwater and I was on the rock and burnt to bits, we rehearsed that scene. And this is a man I’ve been breaking my back for for a long time. His first line was, “I thought you were dead.” And most actors, they’d stand up and there’d be a moment of recognition, that one of the family had returned. Stephen decides he’ll sit down, with his back to me, and he just looked over his shoulder for a moment when he says, “I thought you were dead.” He gave me nothing! That was really brave, because most would go for sympathy or emotion, but Stephen has no desire to be liked. He just doesn’t give a fuck! But for me, it’s brilliant for the scene! Because that’s how my character feels, like, “Is that all I’m going to get?!” It’s a wonderful, wonderful thing we have, that power shift. Stephen’s a joy, a joy. Absolutely nothing, she's maybe advise against sailing into the bay. But it's a problem created by the show if memory serves, been some time since I read that book but Tyrion actually sealed the bay with a big chain, like Constantinople and forced them to go through Blackwater Rush, the river that flows to the bay, Tyrion then sets the trap into the Blackwater Rush with his fleet. And burns the entire Lannister fleet in his possession with the wildfire, creating a long lasting ablaze that sets the whole riverbend afire, not just an explosion like in the show. Anyhow, Melisandre is usually half pretence, half power in the books. A lot of her magic is small parlor tricks and alchemical numbers, being intertwined with real magic. She always pretends to be more powerful than she actually is. Weirdly, she felt herself the mostpowerful when she was at the Wall. Something was feeding her magic there, she never could put her finger to it

    (This is bringing the books into the answer so take it as you like.) In the fifth book Melisandre has a point of view chapter in which she reflects on the fact that danger to herself was the first thing she learned to see in the flames and the first thing she always looks for (and seems confident in her ability). So I do think if she had been present she would have foreseen the wildfire trap. She's playing things up here but I don't think she is lying that she would have been able to save lives.

    Stannis is too barebones brooding in the show. He's a very straightforward, humourless sort of a man but he's not someone who'd indifferently look at Davos, he's not just about ''I AM KING'' either. His drive is about his sense of duty. He spent his life brooding over Robert's decision to make him lord of Dragonstone, ignoring the very fact that since Baratheons are now new royalty, he is the best man for holding the old seat of Targaryens. He is a very resourceful man, very sharp, in the show, he just listens to Melisandre, in the books he's observant, has a certain cunning to him that makes him very difficult to predict but he's also very just. And in the fucking book, he literally commands one of his high lords to sail to Essos, get money from the Iron Bank and hire golden company to put Shireen upon the fucking throne! WHeras in the show, he burns her.
