Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge: Real-World Battery Test with Snapdragon X Elite!

Ғылым және технология

These new Copilot+ PCs like the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge with the Snapdragon X Elite chipset promise great power efficiency and battery life. I wanted to test that out in a real day in the life with my general usage and see if those claims are legit or not.

Interesting test with interesting results. What are your thoughts on the results and how do they compare with your current laptop?

I have the hp envy 15 inch x360 from 2021 with a Ryzen 7 5700u which has a 52 wh battery if I'm not mistaken. Initially I expected hours more of battery life than I got but it still wasn't that bad.It reached around 7 hours almost always which is I guess meh.I also expected many more hours of battery life from this laptop(galaxy book) but for some reason it didn't get it

Great video, I have decided to keep mine as I've found it's super hard to go back from that incredible screen and the two and a half pound weight! Also, for what it's worth, I've found that putting the laptop in the Samsung "Quiet" mode appears to extend runtimes notably... Maybe 10 to 15% depending on usage. Also, I use Phone Link a ton also (with the Windows Studio voice focus AI filter) and I'm pretty sure it does a number on the battery also.

Nice! It's def hard to give that up lol my MacBook Air feels so much heavier after this I'm sure battery will improve as more devs optimize for ARM as well :)

@@hoyoungwon That's also my thought. The efficiency numbers from websites like Notebookcheck (my old stomping grounds) certainly don't show that the CPU is that much less efficient than adjacent options, and I really don't think the AMOLED display is responsible for so much more battery drain than competing OLEDs. It's probably something to do with how Samsung has tuned its power provisions to the chipset, considering how flexible the Qualcomm Snapdragon chips are in terms of power scaling. I don't have any scientific evidence to corroborate this, but it certainly seems like the Samsung power settings do you have a bit of an effect.

Can you maybe give some information about compatibility, I got mine couple of days ago and can not even run a simple Java program because there is no jdk for this yet. How long would it take for such thinks to come to arm? Do uou have any idea?

Thank you for the video! Samsung had spoken about a new functionality in the Phone Link apps that works exclusively on the Book 4 Series, one that let you use the S23/S24 câmeras as a webcam, have you tested this feature? Could you do a vídeo about it?

It's not exclusive to Samsung or the S24 Series. To enable it, you must go to the settings app (weird that it's outside the Phone Link App). I have it available on my Samsung Tab S9 FE

@@hoyoungwon That's not bad for 120Hz turned on. And is the Samsung OLED Display a 10-bit panel? I also read that the OLED display sometimes has a "raster" effect, where the text is not clear or there is a colour shift when viewing white colour content. Do you notice that?

Samsung's Quick (available on Microsoft store) always works But google's nearby Share now reamed to Quick share (only available through google website) doesn't provide enough speed and doesn't work without a wifi connection.

I’ve only had software incompatibilities with a few creative apps, but it's mostly due to third-party devs not allowing Windows ARM to emulate their app or the apps are in beta so there's instability

Many youtubers have done a proper side by side battery test against M3 Macbook, Intel core ultra laptops and X Elite has 10-15% better battery life than Macbooks and 40-50% better battery life than Intel. So that definitely does not corroborate with your findings.

I get that but again, this is a real-world test with my typical general usage so it's the actual battery life I'm getting for my own use cases. It's not a constant video playthrough test or a continuously cycling benchmark test. Those are important results too but for many users, it really depends what their apps are and how they use their device, which will ultimately determine what battery life actually is like for them. For my own cases, I'm currently not seeing mind-blowing results.

@@hoyoungwon Problem with your test is that no two days even by the same user see the same use case scenario. Apple’s battery percentage is a joke. It reduces too slow during the initial times and then goes faster once it reaches the lower percentages. I creates an illusion that the apple laptops stay longer.
