    Great review! A bit worried about screen flickering issue, which is very visible in the video and does not happen on Surface Pro. Why is that happening? Is Edge panel of a lower quality than Surface Pro´s?

  • @GaminylGames

    @GaminylGames

    Ай бұрын

    I believe it's a video issue - as in the refresh rate of the monitor can't be evenly divided into the refresh rate he's filming at (which is 60). If I had to take a guess, the refresh rate drops very low on the AMOLED panel when no content is moving on the screen - phones do this too. It saves battery but would cause flickering when looked through a camera

  • @MashITTech

    @MashITTech

    It seems the PWM is flickering at a slower speed on the Book4 than on the SP11. I will try and take some recordings of both panels at 240fps (the fastest my camera can manage) whilst the screens are set to 120 to test further.

    If you need it right now, go for book 4 ultra. The book 4 edge isn't optimized well like x86 does and can't run many apps. It will improve in future but you don't know how long it will take. The only disadvantage of book 4 ultra is weight so if you are "only" using it for general work, i recommend going for book 4 pro.

    Think the success of these laptops fully depends on whether or not they sell enough for devs to start making native ARM apps. Considering its a gen 1 product from qualcomm i'm really impressed with the performance. Battery life isnt quite what i expected but no way youre getting an x86 product in this form factor that could last anywhere near as long. The manufacturers overhyped by quoting stupid run times.

    It was a low volume server specific SoC design by ex-Apple employees under a license agreement from ARM. Qualcomm bought their company, and converted the designs to portable/laptop applications... and got sued by ARM over allegedly breaking their licensing agreements. The niche that ARM SoC's have in portable device efficiency combined with Apple's purported reluctance to allow those engineers to develop for server applications followed by Nuvia selling out to Qualcomm and the resulting lawsuits from ARM.... it all seems fishy to me. Especially when you consider the literal BILLIONS involved and how much those ex-Apple employees profited from ARM technology ending up in Apple's competitors' hands The Snapdragon single core performance doesn't appear to be on-par with Apple's SoC's. They make up for it by simply adding more cores to improve the overall multi-core performance, but this also comes at a cost of efficiency as they also don't utilise efficiency cores, etc. Benchmark tests are also showing more heat, so I don't see how they advertise competitive battery life to the Apple products. I guess we'll find out now that they're hitting the market!
