G532 PUSHING THE STALLED APEX over the hill!

This week Schony747 is at Wandong and Heathcote Junction where the loaded Hanson Aggregates or Apex Quarry Train from the East Kilmore Quarry stalled at the top of the hill betweenm Wandong and Heathcote Junction. Diesel Locomotive G532 was sent to rescue G515 and the loaded consist. G532 was attached to the back of the consist to push the train over the hill. The train is also seen in push pull mode traveling through Gowanbrae to the Hanson Brooklyn facility.

    I reckon maybe 5 hours. OT normally leaves the quarry around 130pm and wasn't cleared until around 530pm

    Did G515 stall because of a mechanical fault or just too heavy to get over the hill?

    Probably mechanical as it normally has no problem getting over the hill

    January last year I saw push - pull on the Apex and thought it made sense, not only with avoiding the run around at the quarry but would also help with issues like this. Any reason why it’s rare?

    Because it never happens. Last year was due to track work and occupations.

    What is the safe working signaling system? Is it broad or standard gauge? Driver's relief order then a Special train Authority issued be ARTC controllers or Vline Centrol?

    Centrol V/Line as this was a broad gauge train. ARTC would have been aware so its trains could slow down around the scene

    Probably a failure of the Super series traction equipment

    I don't think so. If it got stuck the first time, it won't make it again. Safe working may have been an issue as well
