This is the best review on the GBD-H2000 from runners point of view. I think the final thought is spot on: at $400, this watch is only for G-Shocks fans. I have the first gen, and I don't think it worth $400. It is still a G-Shock and the solar charging is a plus to me. The pros/plus stop there. Hopefully their third or fourth iteration finally catch up with others at a bit lower price point (~$300). Thanks for the videos.
I'm a big g-shock fan for over 30 years and i have 5 of them. But I'm not yet convinced by their connected watches. They have a long way to go to reach the level of Garmin, Polar etc. And their smartphone app is not good. For hiking etc I will continue to use my Polar H10 connected to strava or Polar Beat. The last G-shock i bought is a mudmaster GWG-2000-1A3ER and i love it!!!
It's a step in the right direction, but it's not enough to tempt me. I hike and I also do martial arts. Both Polar and Corus have training profiles that suit what I do. Casio could have also taken some of the popular training profiles from Polar. Hopefully, these shortcomings will be addressed on the next version. I am a G-Shock fan, but Casio have not really upped their game in recent years, but chosen to be more of a fashion brand. The fitness and outdoors market seems to be an after thought. Thanks Dave for another great review. 👍🏻

@@ABHINANDAN272 Hey bro, is this watch good? i am thinking of buying this watch instead of smart watches.
I am older and remember a time when Casino was the leader in cool digial watches. They were the first digital watch to include an automatic calendar function and the first to use a resin body to make lightweight watches. Casio also introduced one of the first watches that could display the time in many different time zones of the world and with features like recording temperature, atmospheric-pressure and altitude. In the later years, Casio's wristwatches were fitted with receivers to synchronise with radio towers around the world and GPS for timekeeping accuracy. It's abit sad how they have missed the mark on this watch compared to what their competitors are putting out given their impressive historical firsts.

Casio still the leader. GShock sales surge in this decade alone.
I really enjoy listening to your conclusion part of this watch, totally agree when you said it is perfect for those casual runners and bikers. I am a G-Shock fan and oftenly run/biking once in a week and I don't mind adding this watch as my lifestyle sports recording accessory. Definitely this watch will stay durable compared to other watches out there cause it is a G-Shock😋. I hopes that Casio would comes up with software updates on this watch too.
The watch is amazing , the name is cool . they keep the legacy alive.
I love G Shocks for a totally different reason, and for that I will to buy them (but not this model). For hiking, and health, I will stick with my original Garmin Instinct solar. Thanks, Dave.
thank you very much, it really helped me with the choice, after two of your videos I knew which watch to choose❤
Whether you're a G-Shock fan or a marathon runner, you have a right to get a correct heart rate sensor. Because it is the main feature of this watch compared to other G-Shocks. And you pay a lot of money for the watch. I want to thank you for the detailed video and I look forward to hearing more about this watch. I'm still debating whether to buy it or not. I just love the look of this watch, especially in that awesome green color. Great video! 👍👍👍

You have spoken for me Martin. Same thing, love the look of it, but concerned at the inaccuracy of the heart rate monitor and am holding off until I do some more research. I am new to health watches, so don't know if the lack of being able to sync data to a 3rd party app will be a future issue. Perhaps the Casio app will be good enough. But given the price, do I want just good enough ??
I'm a big gshock person myself and may replace my coros pace 2 with the gbd-200 (smaller and square, and $130) when the time comes. I'm not a big data guy, but It's only a matter of time before Casio's tech catches up. You should look at it like this. Garmin, coros, etc, are fitness "computers". With that being the primary focus. G shocks are watches first and a watch that will go anywhere and do anything. If you need a watch to do what it's supposed to in any condition in any circumstance, it's a very good option. Also, not that it matters to most, but Casio has a tremendous horological history. Pretty much all watch enthusiasts will have at least one g shock right next to their rolex's and (insert brand here) but they are highly respected in the watch community for good reason. Another point is that you can change the battery in gshocks and I can tell you from owning many, that they will last long enough for you to hand down to your kids and then they can beat the snot of it. I own a bunch and it's really incredible what Casio is able to do with the entire gshock line.

I knew you looked familiar! Came here for the watch, staying for the entertainment! Maybe I see you running around T-bury!
had the previous model and then decided on an Apple Watch Ultra because the fitness tracking is simply more extensive and the Casio only had running available as training.
Thanks for the review! My expectations are exactly explained in your review. As a die-hard G-shock fan, I reluctantly bought Garmin Instinct Solar 3 years ago or so instead of getting an Apple watch, as smartwatch wasn't really offered by G-shock back then. The Garmin Instinct really hit the spot for me in terms of my "dream G-shock", and then some. When I heard the 2nd generation of GBD-H was going to be announced, I had high hopes. But I guess I'll hold off for the next one, or the next one... Thank you, you saved me 400 bucks.

The history of the G-Shock brand is beautiful. I hope they do well in the competitive running/wellness segment. I believe that anybody who likes watches should own a G-Shock, preferably a GWM-5610. Thanks Dave for trying a Casio!
Those characteristics you described here are all classic Casio G-Shock’s have, the shape, the buttons, the design philosophies; yet since this market had been developing by so many competitors for several years, the reluctant Casio is already facing the same situation like Kodak, Nokia or Blackberry did in their respective fields. I know many people still love G-Shock’s even old school Casio’s like I do, but in this particular sport watches territory, Casio still has a lot to do and learn from those past big names.
Terrific watch. Bought yesterday..beast!
Now THIS is how you do a review. Cheers.
If they included some hiking and some basic breadcrumb navigation theyd have a decent competitor to the Instinct, but it just lacks so many features for the same price I wouldnt be able to justify it over the Instinct series. Is nightly recharge comparable to Garmin's Body Battery? So far it's been fairly good at detecting illness, and usually pretty good at predicting when Im starting to run out of steam. Wake up in the morning with a 67? Probably going to crash before dinner regardless of how good I currently feel.
Thanks Dave !! - Great watch, just that. Cheers!
It's not for me as a watch, but I can why some people would want it (though does it do anything significant that a Pace 2 or Polar Pacer doesn't). I am interested in where this is going for Polar, possibly they could have licensed their web app as well as just the analytics, and maybe even the phone app. They could do with some investment in getting the web app and phone more in line (I think polar flow app is the great, but I might not if I did everything on the phone app). Getting access to that would give Casio all the app links to strava etc as well as the detailed activity analysis tools. I'm also interested to see if anyone else will adopt Polar analytics rather than Garmin/Firstbeat's.
Thanks for the review
Oh ya, this watch is dope!!! I totally want it!! Were you too hard on it on the testing? no, you were not hard enough. You should have beat up it to see how tough it is and how much shock it can handle.
I love mine! Best looking smart watch in years
I had the first version of this, the 1000. I do love g shock and it's styling, especially being in the military, these last forever (the original I bought just before basic training lasted me 10 years until the strap broke) But man oh man, the "run" features of this watch, at least the 1000, where unusable. It never tracked correctly, my paces where off by a huge margin. I could not recommend these watches for actual sports tracking.
I bought the GBD-H1000 when the Garmin servers were down, turning my Garmin watches into paperweights. I wanted something that could connect to my phone 3 feet away, without any servers. The GBD-H1000 is limited, just like the newer version, but made me realize, I don't want to rely on a company for every bit of information transfer from my watch to my phone.

Casio needs to go back to the WAVE CEPTOR style watch for smart watch fitness. Then integrate the tech to G-Shock. What happened to Protrek? Casios MIP displays are the best. Wish the Garmin instinct 2X Solar took a page from Casio. They need to focus on the eco system too. Great review like always
The high BPM of from the g shock is because it locked onto your steps per minute and not heart rate
Bought this watch on launch and sadly disappointed so far. Bugs include: * No world time widget for the custom watch face * Sleep tracking mode just straight up doesn't work - no data 3 weeks in a row so far. * GPS takes minutes to get a fix - it's like a fucking smartphone in 2004 * Notifications feature gets confused by (a) long running notifications (b) music app and similar permanent notifications (c) notifications i simply am ignoring on the phone and have yet to swipe away * None of the sports modes show the CURRENT FUCKING TIME what? * Date display can only be month then day, not day then month like normal people need * No indicator for solar charging * Bluetooth, and thus notifications and auto sync, gets reset every couple of days, after which you have to Unpair the watch, then re-pair it, then go through first time setup all over again * When it does sync it 'forgets' about 4 days in every 5 * Only one country at a time for world time mode? WTF? * Buttons are unresponsive and fail to register presses half the time

I got the chance to try out this watch for 150 bucks brand new and honestly the best way to describe it is as a fit bit on steroids and I’m actually enjoying it a lot coming from an Apple Watch Series 7 ss, it does have minimal features but at the end of the day who is away from their phone for more than a few hours a day, this is my fist g shock so I can’t really compare but I’m definitely happy with it and don’t feel like I’m missing much the only thing is I wish it had navigation on it like the Apple Watch since I ride a motorcycle.

To me the G-Shock is definitely not a sports watch despite the limited sports functionalities on this model. It is a tough watch though as I bought a G-Shock at least 25 years ago and it still works perfectly fine today, and it doesn't even have any scratches in the lens, or on the bezel, which would not have been the case with a plastic Garmin watch. I don't actually use the G-Shock anymore as I have a Fenix 7 Sapphire Solar and I truly love my Fenix 7 as it does absolutely everything I need it to do, plus a lot more, but it already (after less than 1 year) has some little nicks in the bezel where the coating has been scratched off and the titanium shows through. Still, I will not be considering getting the GBD-H2000 and I think you are right in saying that it is for very brand dedicated people and not for those who want a proper sports watch.

Not sure why you did not get an accurate heart beat data, but I get an accurate heart rate every time during a high intensity table tennis practise. The data checked up to this point if over 70 hours of workout. Perhaps it depends how tight the strap is. I think it should be firm but not too tight. Perhaps at the time of your stated measurement your wrist was sweaty to a point where the optical sensor could not acquire the consistent readings.

At least with the Casio G-Shock you are getting a durable, comfortable watch. The Garmin has a lot of reliability complaints, constant firmware issues and they don't hold value very well. You can look at the rangeman GPR-B1000 for example, it was released in 2018 and there are very little existing complaints with the design and durability of the watch. Mostly every G-Shocks are designed for reliability over all the extra things you find with a Garmin. Garmin piggybacked off casio with the MIP displays.. not sure where Garmin snatches their displays from and if they're also reliable or low temp rated. Garmin is a bang for your buck but you can't compete with casios engineering. Like a Fossil watch vs a Seiko I would say.

I wouldn't say my tests are "wrong" but they may differ from your testing since we are different humans. Garmin and Amazfit use the same optical sensor technology that G-Shock uses. In this video I'm comparing the optical sensor from the GBD-H2000 to an ECG sensor. ECG technology is far more accurate so it's what I use as a baseline of comparison. I review watches, that's kind of my thing if you look at my channel lol. This one was highly requested so I thought it was worth checking out. Thanks for watching.

@@ChaseTheSummit Hello, I tried it with the pulse oximeters and 1 portable ECG I had in the hospital environment and during high altitude walking. The result was truly satisfactory. What I mean is, this is not a running measurement watch, this is g-shock...
It is awesome watch... 99% of people dont give a 1 fck about exporting stuff to other apps...

99% sounds a little aggressive. I know a lot of people who value syncing steps, etc... to apple/google health and activities to Strava.
To late for the party. Instinct took over their customers...
My thoughts… “meh”
...they really need to start working on their names :))))))))))))))

Good watch for the kids

Little expensive for the kids though!
it misses the most important thing which is NAVIGATION !!! The watch which is supposed to be used by people who love doing things outdoor equipped with GPS and no navigation. It is just waste of potential, it is just silly strategy pushing away potential customers to competition like Garmin. G-Shocks are not cheap on the contrary they are pretty pricey and it is really hard to justify the expense when you are getting a watch with such a stupid limitation although I am convinced it is only the matter of software. I love the appearance of this watch but can't swallow lack of navigation forcing you to use you smartphone as navigation device instead. Shame on you CASIO.
Overpriced for anyone who is not a 1,000% G-Shock fan. Willing to overpay?!
I’m surprise this watch isn’t getting the respect it deserves. This watch feature wise is way better than the rangeman

Maybe when compared to a Rangeman but compared to a similarly priced Garmin it lacks in a few areas.
Watch people dont like wrist smartphones. This casio is watchy enough to get us into fitness tracking, and im hoping tougher than the others.

No GPS for running is a dealbreaker for me

There is GPS for running with this Watch.
This watch looks like it was designed by a 14 year old who also has a Lamborghini poster in their bedroom

funny thing is nobody ever says a Lamborghini is ugly.
Sounds like Cashio
Looks like it's just arrived from the late 80s. Having previously owned and very easily broken many G-shock there's no way would I spend $400 on something that won't even survive a 10m open water scuba dive. Casio's depth ratings are LIES‼️ Put it back in the cornflakes box where it belongs.

Ugliest watch ever....I'd never buy that... Good review though.
casio. failure to innovate. failure to understand what the potential customers want. simple external hr chest strap connectivity - how complicated is this? they ride the g shock fan population they remind me of blackberry in the decline
