Fuyu Persimmon vs Hachiya Persimmon - Fruit Tasting

I compare Fuyu and Hachiya Persimmons. Both types were great. The Hachiya turned out to be amazing though. I couldn't believe how good it was. I am looking forward to trying other persimmon varieties in the future!

The first persimmon I tasted was a hychiya and I bought a tree. I now have added fuyu, saijo and Giombo. My Saijo was mislabeled as suruga. They are all bearing except the Giombo which I just planted in the fall. Planted the fuyu in the fall as well, it has one fruit.

The peels are fun to make air fragrance with too! Similar to lemon and orange rinds in a pot! Thanks for sharing the differences! 😃

Hi, are there different varieties of the Hachiya persimmon, if so, what variety was the one in this video please?

Hachiya is the variety but I came across some interesting background on persimmons in an article. It makes the answer a bit deeper and less clear: Sub-Types of Persimmons: “Here's the deal with persimmons; they're incredibly genetically fluid,” says Jeff Rieger, a fruit farmer in Placer County, California. “If you have a Fuyu tree, and another guy has a Fuyu tree, unless they came from exactly the same place, I will guarantee you they are different.” This extreme genetic fluidity comes from the persimmon’s penchant to “sport”-to grow a branch that produces a completely different kind of fruit from the rest of the tree. Because of the trees’ genetic mobility, there has never been a complete taxonomic study of persimmons, and growers can’t be completely sure what varieties they have. To make matters worse, persimmons are notoriously fickle; about fifty percent of grafts fail, and healthy trees can die for no obvious reason a couple years into their growth." So this fruit I had was sold as a Hachiya, but since then I have yet to have another Hachiya with that much flavor impact. It could be that I've had different sub type Hachiyas each time with different flavor potential.

@@CaseysGarden Thank you for your reply, I had thought the Hachiyas were a generalised term for the acorn shaped family of persimmon and not an exact variety 👍🏻

@@spear4food636 The Giombo is also acorn shaped, but bigger than the hychiya, also much harder to find, I finally found a tree and planted it a few months ago.

Isn't Hachiya called the cinnamon persimmon tho?

Apparently Cinnamon Persimmons are the 'Hyakume' variety. Sometimes also referred to as Brown Sugar persimmons. From pictures they look similar to Hachiya. My guess is it's one of those things where names sometimes get used interchangeably.
