    Wow! I never knew there are so many varieties. APPLE MINT is a great mint and a favorite in market flower bouquets on the east coast. It is fuzzy and grows 3 feet tall. It is easy to pull up if you let it get out of hand. Mint is, also, great for re-training your sense of smell. Thank you for this video.

    Question: So, if you do NOT remove it from its pit, it will NOT sprout?

  • @CaseysGarden
    @CaseysGarden15 күн бұрын

    You don't have to remove it at all. The pits naturally split in nature through different means. The only thing is confirming there's a viable seed inside the pit to be planted. Many store bought fruits have under developed or shriveled seeds inside their pits so it's nice to know you're actually planting something and not basically an empty pit.

    Sounds like a good problem to have, I usually grow everything I need to make salsa, minus the onions (I can't seem to get them to grow no matter what I do) they're still relatively inexpensive, salsa seemed like the best choice as I can preserve, jar and store it for a long while.

    What kind of soil did you use? I have ginger mint and chocolate mint...not sure if I missed it in the video. Can you also propagate them in water?

  • @CaseysGarden
    @CaseysGarden25 күн бұрын

    From what I've seen most mints will thrive in most soil types. I had many of these in different soils for a while. But I probably wouldn't use the grow bags again. They made watering inconsistent in my dry climate. You can propagate them in water.

    I've just put two avocado trees in grow bags and I'm a little bit concerned about what's going to happen when the time comes to take them out. I guess I'm okay with cutting them if I have to, but it seems like a bit of a waste. What do you do for an eventual "rebagging"?

  • @CaseysGarden
    @CaseysGardenАй бұрын

    Similar to repotting from a plastic pot, I'd tip it and pull the pot off. There may be feeder roots coming through the felt of the grow bag, its fine to brush them off. I wouldn't worry about it unless they're significant sized roots, then you might consider cutting the bag off.

    Question: I have the four cell trays and wanted to know if these trays work for seed starting? I am beginning sunflower seeds, and I did not want to transplant from a six-cell tray to a four-cell tray

  • @CaseysGarden
    @CaseysGardenАй бұрын

    They absolutely do. I'll usually use them for things that can get big quickly. Or if I prefer not to transplant up to a bigger cell. I'll tend to try to use them in ways that save me effort later on.

    To force dormancy you water less and put it in a shaded, colder spot and fertilise less. To wake it up you do the opposite, water more, give nutrients, and use not so cold water or the cold root temp will set it back. Extreme sunlight can be a little too much, but place it in 6 h sunlight at least, preferably 8 unless you live in a very hot zone. If a potted plant you can take it in the shower, give it a good drench, and let it stay inside the house until it wakes up.

    The first persimmon I tasted was a hychiya and I bought a tree. I now have added fuyu, saijo and Giombo. My Saijo was mislabeled as suruga. They are all bearing except the Giombo which I just planted in the fall. Planted the fuyu in the fall as well, it has one fruit.

    Buy a roll or 2 of coconut fiber matting, rinse it in 25% vinegar solution (coconuts are often rafted in salt water, vinegar is acid, neutralizes the salt). Mulch your berry plants with the fiber matting. (It will be easier if your planters are closer to full (within 1/2” of the rim, so the matting can lie flat and extend over the pot rim.) No splash when it rains, no fungus, no slugs I’ve seen, either. If you want to see a wick setup, drop me a line - mine hang, south side of the house. I also have a wick setup for starting runners. I use water bottles and 2 liter soda bottles for starting wicking, then move up to 2 liters in 2 gallon buckets.

  • @CaseysGarden
    @CaseysGarden2 ай бұрын

    @@m.contreras3531 the mix is called Gary's Top Pot. I think its only local to southern California. I made my own version for a while to try and save on cost but eventually decided it was too much work, and the mix had better ratios of each part, but making it myself was certainly doable. The mix is 35% peat, 30% pumice, 20% perlite, 10% sand, 5% charcoal.
