I'm so sad that this is over, Moses invented a genre of KZread. I'd never seen videos like this before and it really nice seeing him connect with people with their own language. Do you want to know why many chinese in this video is impressed with him ? Cos when he spoke Cantonese, and also Mandarin, his pronunciation is pretty good. Like, very accurate. So this is why they are impressed with him as well. Cos with those from Malaysia, or from Singapore, they too throw in an odd accent, but his listening skills is very good, cos he doesn't have that accent somehow. I also speak Cantonese, and not very strong on mandarin, but his pronunciation of Cantonese is quite good. Thumbs up.

@@Pharomid Cantonese is a regional language whereas Mandarin is widely spoken across China. Only 5% of China's population speaks Mandarin whereas virtually everyone knows Mandarin. Moses might as well be performing a magic trick - it's that rare to hear a non-Cantonese speak the language... and so well, too.

Some people like to flex their cars and clothes, but the ultimate flex is how many languages one can speak

As a speaker of 4 languages I don't really think it's flexing... however if you can speak totally unrelated languages then it's impressive, or when the list grows past like 10. I mean I have moderate comprehension in French, Spanish, Italian, German, Dutch, Frisian and Vraams. Doesn't mean I speak them. I also speak over 200 dialects when it comes to the 4 languages I speak. I mean I need at least 10 dialects just to speak with people that I work with.

Unfortunately, many foreigners living in HK (and even some of the new generation from Guangdong) don’t bother to learn it and that’s why people are so amazed at your Cantonese! 👍👍👍

@@fivefiveqt214 Manderin is the main language in China. When someone tells you they're learning Chinese, they probably mean they're learning Manderin. Canonese is spoken in South China. If you whip out Cantonese, that's considered very impressive.

It’s interesting how friendly Chinese people are when English people can speak Chinese but English people literally don’t care if they see a Chinese person speak english

Bertie Wilkinson it’s a bit different. I do agree with what you are saying, it’s mad hard to learn english if it isn’t your native language. However, most speakers of english aren’t native. It’s not uncommon at all for foreigners to learn english. While there are more Mandarin speakers as a whole, it is mostly from native speakers and not many people (in America especially) take the time to learn it, so it’s more rare and a surprise.

It's why I have started learning Mandarin. I come from an area of the UK with a large university/college and there are many Chinese students who recently immigrated. I want to make them feel as welcome and comfortable as possible, so I've started learning. It is only fair as they have done their best to learn English to fit in

Good point but It's probably different their reaction from English native speakers cause english itself is the connecting world language (common language) without being offensive with my comment by the way, and on the other hand Chinese language is not common to speak it besides the Chinese community or chinese descendents, just my humble and respectful opinion...

@@jmgv75 I think Chinese is also a unifying language- just not for a part of the world you live in. In Asia it is a superpower and a lot of people learn it for business or family reasons. I remember at a language school there being 3 distinct groups- English speakers, Chinese speakers and Spanish speakers. Master those 3 and many doors would open it seems (and yet I chose French and Japanese, sigh).

Wow, these videos are really amazing. Not just for his skill but how he instantly breaks down racial and cultural barriers.

I'm very glad to hear that your favorite language was Cantonese - my mother tongue! We will never forget you and always miss you...

Man I come back every year to binge watch his videos I truly truly miss this guy and I’m sure thousands around the world miss him to 😢 I started watching his videos because it was something new to me and it intrigued me that a person can learn so many Languages if they put the effort in it. nicolas zanni LMAO where to start? I’ll list some and it still won’t be every language he understands/speaks English Mandarin Cantonese Japanese Hmong Cambodian Tagalog Russian French Twi Spanish Italian Arabic Swahili Thai Zulu Polish Swedish Hungarian Armenian And I haven’t even scratched the surface! He can also read Mandarin, Thai and some other languages (probably most of the ones I listed) and he even knows some local languages and dialects as well! BEAST

@@tmg9255 Mandarin is the official language of China vs Cantonese is only spoken in certain provinces like Guangdong for example. In China, far more people speak Mandarin than Cantonese, so it's impressive that he not only speaks the official language, but also speaks one that not even many Chinese people know.

@@dopemarz Not only that but Cantonese is an extremely hard language for a foreigner to learn. Firstly, the language has 6 tones vs Mandarin's 4 tones. Secondly, there is very little digital material available for a non-native speaker to procedurally learn how to speak Cantonese fluently. Like most other regional dialects (e.g. Fuzhounese, Wenzhounese, etc.) the native speakers learn how to speak the language from birth and so the wealth of knowledge for the language is passed down generationally. Linguistic aspects like correct tone usage and pronunciation are so culturally insulated that hearing it out of a foreigners mouth is like encountering a Vulcan from Star Trek in the flesh.

Dude moses. Man. I'm Cantonese but I don't have to confidence to speak my mother dialect like you. I was born in Malaysia and we speak mainly Chinese Malay and English here. I didn't manage to pick up Cantonese growing up. Thanks for being such an inspiration man.

@@jeygee3736 in Malaysia, being Cantonese is part of an ethnic dialect group, as my grandparents are from Canton, China.

This is the first video I’ve watched since Laoshu passed away. Before that, I used to watch his content on a weekly maybe daily basis always amazed by languages and how they’re utilized actually shape our interactions with other beings. I was lucky enough to exchange several conversations with him on Instagram before his passing. He was always eager to learn in any possible way even by typing in Arabic to chat with me. Very glad I reached out and had a chat with such a bright mind like Moses’. It wasn’t easy to accept that Moses wouldn’t be here anymore to share with us his experiences and the vast knowledge of languages that he possessed. You will definitely be missed. RIP

This is definitely one of my top favorite videos on KZread. I am watching it over and over again since it makes me so happy. In some way it restores my faith in humanity. People connecting and becoming happy. Thank you Moses!
