  I’ve had this in my Watch Later playlist for at least three years. Honestly, I’ve never gotten around to watching it like I did the videos of you speaking other languages out in the world. It just popped up on my feed today, and it made me think of all the times I watched you brighten up people’s days with how fluently you spoke their languages. The instant connection you made with people who might not have expected someone of your age and stature to take the time and dedicate yourself to learning a difficult language was something special to watch, and I always had a smile on my face when a video of yours popped on my feed. There are plenty of polyglots out there, but there was just something special about you. Maybe it was your energy? I don’t know. It’s been awhile since you’ve passed, but your impact that you’ve had on me still exists. I hope that wherever you are, you’re at peace and happy.

  I enjoyed watching this back and forth. I think the old guy was totally on brand as far as Asian dads go, and this reminded me a lot of the way my own dad spoke to us as kids. I think it's because we were forged from those fires that I wasn't offended, and I don't think Moses was either. I also feel like the old guy was defensive from the start because he's had to fight off racists in general and developed a tough skin. Even though I was born in the US, I still get people talking down to me and shouting "ni hao!" as if I speak Mandarin. I don't, btw! So the way Moses framed this like a fighting game was really funny because it's like seeing how he (Moses) could wear down the old guy with kindness and show him that he didn't mean any harm. I was smiling the whole time, waiting for the old guy to crack a smile. Actually, as soon as he started saying Moses was smart, I was like, yeah! Moses already won his approval! :3
