As an American and someone who has supported this team for decades, Jamaica’s 96th minute own goal disgusted me. Because USSF, and a portion of the fan base, will only look at the very here and now, celebrate the win, and genuinely think a performances like this is acceptable in 2024. The objective reality is Berhalter cannot be fired fast enough and is holding the team back big time. I’m afraid tonight’s result is only going to further embolden USSF to stick with Berhalter when any objective fan with a brain knows he needs to go. If you are a serious fan of the U.S. Men and actually think Berhalter is the right man for the job after tonight, then you need to understand that any serious footballing nation would have been booing and whistling our team off at full time. But that’s not possible when we barely have any fans at the game to boo and whistle the team. Berhalter Out.

Exactly correct. This is the first and only game that I have been really disappointed by a win by USMNT. They didn’t do anything to deserve the win. Had they lost, US Soccer would have likely fired Greg. But they won’t. Even though they should, regardless of the outcome.

The talent is mediocre as well. Outside of Pulisic at Milan, McKinnie at Juventus, and Ream at Fulham, who else is doing well in top European club? Dest plays at a second tier league. Reyna can only produce at CONCACAF against weak teams like Jamaica or Trinidad, but not at top European club level. And none of these players are at superstar level. They're definitely better than Jamaica, but their talent level is far below the top teams in the world. We have no players starting for top teams like City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Bayern, Leverkusen, Real Madrid, Barca, Inter, etc. Look at the remaining teams in the Champions League - any Americans playing a major role? Nope.

I know the pundits on the show from the U.K. don't look at U.S. football as much because obviously that's the job for the guys over on Futbol Americas, but it's pretty unfair to say that the players are good enough to dominate games when we see what many of them have done with their European clubs. It isn't just a coincidence that just about every time the players get the call up and play with the USMNT that they look so mediocre compared to how they did with their clubs. The few good patches we have had was a team, including our dominance last Nations League, was when Berhalter was literally gone. I really wish we had lost this game simply for the sake of there being a chance that the USSF actually open their eyes to the reality that Berhalter is not that guy, and he will lead us to failure.

Berhalter has such a total lack of awareness of the talent & abilities of the players on this team it is mind blowing. It is obvious that the players are not connected to him & it looks like they do not enjoy playing for him. It breaks my heart to say this but I wish they would have lost. That way the process of replacing this clown as head coach & finding a real coach could begin. The US will never be anything above a mediocre to poor national team with this stuff at the healm….

I’m sure Gregg is a nice guy and the players really seem to like him, but he needs to go. There is a decent amount of talent in the squad and we need to be doing better than needing a last minute own goal to beat Jamaica. Get a foreign coach in who can take the program to the next level. I felt bad when he was kicked out due to Reyna’s parents throwing a fit and will forever be shocked that two people can think they need to baby their adult son and I think reinstating him was smart to show that the management can’t be bullied into changes, but he needs to go now.

but when the US keeps up with big teams or tie games; they commentators don't say anything, right? NO team nowadays wins comfortably, especially a team from the same conference. The US is a slightly better than all teams in Concacaf but YOU are asking too much out them. Stop with the Reyna / Berhalter incident. It already happened, move on. Stop idolizing Reyna so much too; he is good but there are other players in this team that are talented and play well. Stop complaining about Berhalter, it is what it is.

Get him OUT of the coaching job now while there's still time before the World Cup to field a competitive side!!!

Yeah the team underperformed, but they also gave up a flukey goal 30 seconds into the game, and then Jamaica parked the bus. The USA still should have and could have scored 2-3 during the first 90 and put the game away, but they could not hit the final pass. It is however way harder to score against a team parking the bus, and you see big premier league teams struggle to find goals against small teams parking the bus all the time. This does show how important it is to have someone like Gio in the squad though, he might not be the best for a fast paced end to end game, but he is the only guy in our squad that I think can reliably pick apart a parked defence with his passing.

  • @NoCoastRaps

Everyone is pessimistic after this game, but I was relatively impressed. There is a lot of talent on this team, RAW talent in most cases. I think all they lack is (1) more time playing together, and (2) a quality coach. Stevie put his finger on it -- they aren't a TEAM, and that's on Berhalter for the most part. His resistance to utilizing Gio has been a real impediment to this group developing an internal chemistry. My God, Gio's two stoppage time passes were of Messi or Maddison quality. It sounds like the feud is over, but if Gio does not start at #10 from here on, Berhalter has to go. Gio has been hampered with injuries at a critical stage of his development, and he is young and very immature (which reflects lax parenting, I suspect), but that usually improves with time. Berhalter should be better at managing outlier talents like Gio; That's his fckin job, after all. A quality manager should be able to lead this group of raw underdeveloped players to more consistent play. Perhaps what this team needs is a coach who is better at man management, like Jesse Marsch. His technical abilities may or may not be suspect, but he is an absolute master at managing difficult personalities. The team created a lot of chances, just lacked the finishing, but that can improve as they become more familiar with each other. I mean, just count the chances for both teams. They fluffed them all, but with a few kinder bounces the score could have been 5-1. Well, 5-2 or 5-3 if we allow for better bounces cutting both ways. Gentlemen, I believe your assessments are on target, just a bit overcooked. Give these guys more time, and maybe a better manager, and we might be surprised.

The talent at USMNT isn't as top level as people say it is. Outside of Pulisic at Milan, McKinnie at Juventus, and Ream at Fulham, who else is doing well in top European club? Dest plays at a second tier league. Reyna can only produce at CONCACAF level but not at top club level like Bundesliga or the EPL. And none of these players are at superstar level. They're definitely better than Jamaica, but their talent level is far below the top teams in the world. We have no players starting for top teams like City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Bayern, Leverkusen, Real Madrid, Barca, Inter, etc. Look at the remaining teams in the Champions League - any Americans playing a major role in any of them? Nope.
