Almost all the goals he took are the product of bad defense, and last year was the reason why salernitana did so well , one of the few team that managed not to take an L from the Napoli of oshimen and kavastrhela.

Biggest difference is that US already had players in Europe. Dest, Jedi, balogun, musah, and the list continues. That is continuing with the US youth teams. Mexico can’t go toe to toe in this situation. Dual nat is a big advantage for USA.

@@pfang32 your second point is big, soccer academies in US have become professional and recognized around the world, even without the dual nationals many of our players are developed here at young age before being exported as late teenagers, Weston, Reyna, Adams etc as many important players come from youth clubs in us

A while back I lived in Mexico. Kids don’t play organized football as much as they used to. . futsal or rapido (court soccer) is more popular and easier to get into. It has hurt the game. The development leagues for pitch football are controlled by coaches and organizers who play politics and advance those players whose families have connections or family members who played professionally etc. that’s why you see so many “legacy” players in MX club teams and the national teams…children of former players. When I was living there baseball had a more open door approach for organized teams and finding talent than football. And you see how Mexican Baseball has progressed in the past two decades and football has digressed. They are simply NOT putting out young talent that can compete internationally and there much more options for sports for kids now in Mexico. Mexicans approach their love of “football” as a spectator sport…they don’t play the sport like they do in Other Latin American countries and Europe. They all love watching the game, but very few have played organized or competitive football.

Futsal is good for technique and getting a lot of touches on the ball. Futsal is very popular in Brazil.

One thing I notice Mexico got into a defensive posture once the Pulisic and Ochoa showdown happened in the early minutes of the game. Fear took over them and the US easily prevented them from getting any look around the final 3rd. Mexico try to press but to no avail as the US has better ball handlers and they control the tempo of the game, probing and putting Mexico defenders in risky positions, keeping them back as they play the ball back to Ochoa to relieve pressure and the US swarm their midfielders leaving Ochoa to take a bad swing and gift the ball right back to the US Richards or Tim Ream. This was the whole first half. Second half was no better as the US kept them pin back further with Gio closer to his playmaking ways, dribbling past the midfield, switch the line of attack side to side with Weah getting good looks, Pulisic too on the left resulting in the US second goal even with Mexico mostly in their 18 yard box. Mexico try to come back from 2-0 down but the US stood their ground and defended in unison, anticipating what Mexico would do. Lozano try to play Hero but he just doesn’t have the luck to get anything on target or score a goal on the US which he hasn’t been able to accomplish. Santi faking the penalty was the Nail in the coffin as his actions all but lower the morale of everyone who was trying their best to make a comeback.

I was watching a lot of commentary from Mexican pundits as a victory lap. I noticed that when they were translating for Berhalter at the press conference, they’d translated everything well, but when Berhalter mentioned fans throwing things creates an unsafe environment, I noticed they stopped translating and were silent, then started again when GGG went back to football talk.

Mexican fans have created for themselves a reputation of classlessness and thuggery. Its sad to because many of the young men who perpetuate this reputation are not even from Mexico they’re little Chicano Edgar’s many of whom don’t even speak Spanish.

I said it before and ill say it again, Mexico never deserved to even qualify for the 2022 world cup. They make fun of the US for 2018 but honestly that was something the US needed. They needed the wakeup call to hard reset, sack the entire team and start anew. Mexico needs that too but the team nor the fans are helping themselves.

Most of their players are way past their prime.

Mexico doesn’t give young talent a chance and their soccer academies are expensive as shit so you limit the pool of people that can even join

Very true. Even local youth leagues there have a cost. And parents have to have connections to get them on an actual team that plays competitively Baseball is the exact opposite in how it’s structured and is little to no cost and are open to all kids. and we see how baseball has progressed in Mexico. Football is full of politics and the clubs that feed into the professional hierarchy are very expensive.

The USA has revolutionized it's team over the last few years. Now it really shows. It's not so much that Mexico is getting worse but more that the USA has gone to the next level. The US team used to be Great goalkeeping, bad defense. Pretty good midfield and other than Brian McBride - poor at forward. Now the team is solid in every postion. Huge improvement at defense and at Forward. This improvement puts the US a class ahead of the rest of concacaf and there is no going back. Concacaf will have to improve to catch up or the US will own concacaf from here on.

Yes I do think CONCACAF should work to improve although I think money for several teams will be an issue. USA on the other hand should look to improve to stand with the likes of the top Euro and South American teams. Leave CONCACAF behind.

I agree the US has gotten better. However, I would say Mexico has gotten worse. Mexico was a power house in youth development. Always having some of the top teams in the u17 World Cup like they mentioned. But that development has taken a nose dive. Even a team like Chivas who only fielded the best Mexican players now has trouble in liga Mx.

Umm did you watch them against Jamaica? What about the last game against Panama????? On top of that US has not had a signature win (other than Mexico) against a legit World contender in a meaningful game or tournament in the Berhalter era!!! Not one I can think of. This roster has talent, and for once depth, but they have not progressed under Greg like you say they have. Beating Mexico is not the bar of success for th US soccer anymore. And they are not good right now! . Nether is drawing games against England or beating Iran. Not one signature Wi. Against a good opponent! This team has a long way to go. He said Santi will be involved more as he gets more time, scores more goals, and gets comfortable. How much more do you want him to do? He’s starts, he scores goals and is comfortable in Europe. To clarify for everyone, this guy is talking about Club America fans, not American fans of the USMNT. Henry Martin plays for Club America in Liga MX. That said... Gimenez hasn't been good in the El Tri kit, whether he's starting or subbing. He's averaging 1 goal every 300 minutes played for his national team, which is about the same as Martin.

@@CognizantCheddaryou’re just making excuses for Martin to start bc that’s blown way out of proportion. Henry Martin has 43 games played and more than half of those are starts and only has 9 goals. Santi has 25 games for Mexico and has 4 goals, and only a handful of those games are games that he started. Majority of those games are game he comes off the bench either towards the end or with only 25-30 minutes left on the game. Henry Martin does not strike fear into opposition defenses like Santi does. There’s no reason for Martin to start

Seb almost got to the answer when he said Lazano's complaints could only be fixed by 2030, at the earliest. He was begging the question, what does Mexico do till then? The answer he didn't want to say is, nothing, there is nothing they can do. They will continue to struggle for years. There is no tactic or coach that can solve their fundamental systemic problems. LigaMX might be a better league, talent wise, than MLS. But MLS and the US academy system is better at getting players to Europe and that is what matters. If Mexico doesn't fix that, the rest is just conversation.

Nothing is gonna happen. The liga Mx owners are making money by importing South Americans and the stadiums are full, beers are sold, chivas and America keep saying they are #1 etc. As long as Mexico does OK in Concacaf, and make WC, to at least get 3-4 games - the money keeps coming and that is it!

USL and MLS are sending more players to Europe than Mexico. Infact only Brazil and Argentina send more from the western hemisphere. US is distant 3rd but that’s growing. You have young South American talents coming to MLS hopefully to go to Europe while LigaMx is getting older South American talents to win league titles.

If Mexico start Ochoa in Copa America and decide to stick with him in 2026, then that is the definition of insanity.

Send promising talent to Europe at a younger age to academies or at lower clubs as young professionals and let them work their way up. I think that’s the big picture.

Been watching Mexican soccer for years. The league is less and less competitive. The development isn’t as good as it used to be. There are gaps in multiple areas.

Hi tocayo, I'm a Tigres fan.. The league is ok, the issue is it has literally gotten even more corrupt with the introduction of VAR.. They pick n choose who to favor n who to screw over.. The US looks great! The problem is in front of goal, and silly lapses/loss of focus on defense that allows goals. Playing in Europe doesn’t mean anything when you’re getting scored on all the time and play for such a weak team. The other Mexican goalies can easily play for saleritana as well and probably do better than Ochoa. I’m 44 and played the game in the 🇺🇸 my Dad 🇦🇷 and mom 🇨🇴. Mexican national team HAS gotten worse look 👀 back at the Mexican team from 1994-2004 really good players and they play well as a team. The 🇺🇸 USMNT has been playing better and better soccer ⚽️ they are fast very skillful, strong 💪 players physical strength. They 🇺🇸 play a Europe style/South America and the Mexican team can’t hang with that style of play the 🇺🇸 play quick touch very physical play and they are very fast players and the Mexican team can’t hang. They do well with El Salvador 🇸🇻 and 🇳🇮 Nicaragua 😊

Youth leagues are ran by elitist snobs who promote players with family names or legacy players (sons or grand sons of former stars or players). It’s worse than the U.S. in that respect. Also the fastest and most athletic players play Futsal or Rapido (as it’s called in other countries…court soccer). That sport has been a major reason for the downfall of traditional football in Mexico. And I think I heard that more kids play Baseball and American football combined in Mexico than soccer. Baseball is huge and American football is growing, especially at the high school age level. . .

I think it’s time for Ochoa to go now it’s time for change and let the young men to play and make in impact as far as USA it’s time to just give them their props now they are just really good now and have no problem letting their youth come in and play and let the old players stay away now but it comes down to coaching at the end of the day to old players it’s not personal it’s just business

US Team plays in CONCACAF, one of if not the lowest confederation on earth. USA is just like USA, a low medium team with no expectations of winning the world cup in 2 years. What makes a soccer team great world class players, and US has none of those. That's thecreality. USA beat a weak team of Mexico. Do not foul yourself. We still have a million miles to go. This would take having many players in Europe, not only Premier League, but in European major leagues. This would also take a world class coach. We don't have a great tactician. Determination and cardio is all we have for now.

Let's not complain about their result then. When Brazil, France, Gernany, Argentina, and Italy go to the World Cup, we expect them to win. Those are great nations of football. Not Mex, nor England. They don’t replace their players is the true problem. They make up ideas that there’s no other players to keep bringing back the same players.

Totally disagree with Mauricio here. Mexican players may not be the most talented but I bet many teams would be willing to give them a chance. There are two reasons why Mexican talent doesn’t make it to Europe, 1) they are way too expensive (ex. Chiquito Sanchez has a price tag of 12 million dollars, Luis Chavez had to buy his own contract) and 2) they all take a foreign seat. I bet that if they were free agents or they were given to opportunity to play in loan transfers, there would be a lot more playing in Europe

It's simple. You have players that have money to get into the Mexican league even if the player sucks. It's all about the money to decide who plays. United States is still about the money but we're doing everything in a slow growth pace. United States has been planting the seeds for growth through the minor leagues, universities, and lower tiers (Middle and high School). A kid in the United States has the chance (small chance) but it's still a chance to shine their talents and get noticed. Also, our player base is a mixed bag of different racial backgrounds which helps because we have players whose parents were from Colombia, Brazil, etc that live in the United States. The passion and the drive is there in the United States with the belief that with a drive you can succeed and hopefully be noticed by the United States major League and national team. USA were the laughing stock in the 90s and people were ashamed to support the sport. Today, after 30 years USA has kept sprouting those seeds with structure and discipline while being laughed at. Well, whose laughing now Mexico. Mexico got cocky with the name and the money coming in but not USA is taking the spotlight and leaving Mexico behind. Hell, Canada and Jamaica are getting so much better as well. Mexico is stagnant and its about time that the bubble burst. Mexico needs to fix this shit and go through the embarrassment to learn from all this. Rebuild and fix the system.

US soccer has just surpassed mexico soccer. It was just a matter of time and its just a matter of time when US will be competing with the top countries in the world. US has the best resources in the world, it was just a matter of time and now soccer is big in the US. The world better watch out.

Well if they are not good enough for a weak team like us, Mexico should just forfeit the copa America. USA is a very weak team internationally so if you can’t beat them your finished. Mediocre teams like Norway, Slovenia, Austria, Poland, S Korea can beat the USA. Concacaf has no heavyweights or even middleweights anymore at all. Lol

Mexico has to play us the way we always used to play them. We always used to play defensively, and take advantage of counterattacks. It wasn’t pretty, but we were able to grind out results against Mexico with inferior talent.

Mexico should play a 4-6-0 and take control of the midfield. Their forwards suck ass so there is no point having them. Their best chance is tikitaka 4-6-0 and have some backups to score the goals after the first person misses. 🤣

That’s what confuses me sometimes. When mexican-americans or even 1st/2nd generation americans with mexico heritage choose mexico over the US. Yet they expect everyone who’s even got a sliver of mexican heritage in them to support mexico. Hell. I got mexican ancestry from my mom’s side of the family but i would never support el tri. I was born and raised in the US.

Would that alot of European clubs from the top 5 leagues are also owned by Americans have something to do with it? You MU, AC milan, Chelsea, Leeds, Fulham, precisely where alot of American players play at the moment. The American player gets an opportunity to play that the Mexican player doesn't. I refuse to believe its because we aren't good enough when it comes to talent. We just trashed Argentina 3-0 recently in the second game of a 2-series set of friendlies. A winning mentality, maybe, but we have just as much talent as the U.S, if not more, and probably always had. We've won things at the youth level and they haven't. Facts, not opinions. I hate this narrative that we aren't good enough. We certainly have talent. We don't have the will to make the sacrifice of giving up the good life of partying, and being with family to pursue higher success. That's what it is. Give us the mentality that U.S players have, and we'd still be dominating this region because as far as natural talent, we have it. Always did. Didnt we beat the U.S recently 3-1 too at the revelations cup??

Of the five teams you mentioned only 4 USMNT players play on those teams, 2 on AC Milan and 2 on Fulham. There are over 100 players spread throughout Europe not just on the US Owned teams. I think one thing that gets overlooked, has been getting the dual nationals like Musa, Balogun, and Robinson to join the US team. Those players born in the US and raised in Europe under their football culture has been huge for the US.

But 5-10yrs ago USA convinced the Mexican Soccer Federation ⚽️ FeMexFut to let them get a piece of the pie 🥧 n to let the US league take the lead in these matches in order to grow their fan base n get their viewership up.. As y'all may already know, Mexican Soccer ⚽️ generates 10x more money 💰 than MLS soccer.. I also think it's bs that LA teams get armed with the best players while the rest don't, thereby artificially trying to make them the strongest team in the country.. It may not be a crime, they set the rules in their favor anyway.. But it should be..

It's just corruption ypu need money to play in mexican soccer thats reality as many former mexican players have said. If we went into the barrios and hoods in mexico without a doubt mexico has far far better talent and ive seen it myself the skills in the streets but sadly they wont ever get a chance. Us doesnt gave a soccer nation and US players are not elite at all but good but again US isnt a soccer nation like mexico . Corruption doesnt allow the best to rise up to national team and filters out the bad players

The reality is here. For over 40 years, Mexico has never been a great football team. Mexico has always relied on individual abilities of some players. From Negrete to Hugo Sanchez to The actual goal keeper. Sorry, Mexico is always overrated

Their youth teams seem to look good then fizzle out. See the Olympic gold medal over Brazil and then their exit at the next WC. The mex system has hit its ceiling and without a major overhaul to identify talent or create youth talent it is stagnating as we currently see. To the US credit there has been an overhaul in the youth system for games vs training starting at u6 when I coached in PA. Having grass roots feeding the ODP and now academies so they are in lock step has helped grow the sport to new levels

This is why I must say, they are overrated and shouldn't scare anyone. It's just a name. USA needs talents too. We need consistency in our representation at the highest level in EU clubs, especially not in England. We need players in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal and France. Even in Turkey we need players. If not, forget about it. England is good, but always overrated, just like Mex. Premier League is great, but English players are overrated more than any other players on earth. If you score a goal in Premier League as an English player, media say you're among the best on earth. Funny. That's the reason why England will only win the world cup at wembley stadium, when VAR will malfunction. And this will never happen. England just doesn't know how to win. Keane is overrated. Everyone in Europe knows that.

I wish the US media would be as constructively critical about the US federation and coach as they are about the Mexican setup. Most US media are in the USSF and MLS pocket and just repeat what they're told. Press conferences with Berhalter are basically people asking him what is his favorite color.

Do you really take youth level friendlies seriously? Mexico didnt qualify for the U-20 World Cup nor Olympics. Of these kids, how many are starters or important players on their teams? A tiny spark doesnt make them good players. They are benchwarmers liga mx level players. USA crushed you with players trained in European leagues.put your feet on the ground, Liga MX players, young or old, will not make any difference.
