After he missed the first one, missing the second one was the obvious strategy despite the announcers not being able to figure it out. I'd rather take my chances up 2 against a full court throw off a missed free throw than up 3 when an inbounds pass past half court could get you a 30 footer for the tie with defenders playing off to avoid fouling.

I was sure happy to see him miss that last one, whether it was intentional or not. The announcers were saying make it for the 3 point lead, but if you miss it they have to throw in a full court heave. If you make it, they can throw the inbounds pass into the front court and possibly get a 30 foot shot for the tie.

That blocked shot was tremendous, he could have been dejected after missing the two free throws, but he kept playing the game with great awareness and determination and may have prevented a 3-point play.

Grant Nelson two previous tournament games COMBINED...6 points and 2 rebounds. Vs NC in sweet 16...24, 12, and 5 blocks. 😮

I sure didn't see that coming. He hasn't had a game like that all season. Oats had a great game plan to put Nelson on UNC's worst perimeter shooter so he could sag off and be a help defender against Bacot, Ingram and Davis. Nelson was basically floating around as an extra defender and it kept him out of foul trouble trying to be a post defender.

At 0:44 , Sears keeps handling the ball and bobbing and weaving until he suckers Bacot into coming out on a half hearted double team. He was setting up Nelson for that roll to the basket the whole time. Oats usually doesn't want a player handling the ball that long without shooting or passing, but Sears knew exactly what he was doing.

Vol fan here! I cannot stand North Carolina. I’ve never liked them … and as a Vol fan, well … I’m duty bound to feel about Bama the way that I do 😂 (just like Alabama fans feel about Tennessee). That said, I can be intellectually honest: MY GOSH, these last 2 Alabama games have been EPIC!! Just freaking Classics, Man! And nothing but awe & admiration for how your TEAM has played. Just gutty, blue-collar team-wins. Obviously you have Sears & Nelson (both BIG TIME players) … and Pringle & Estrada, et al. But this team is winning because it is a TEAM!! Davis went 0-9 from 3 point range. His old teammate Love also went 0 for 9 from three against Clemson. Not a surprising coincidence to me.

Sometimes, I think one can just feel something is going to happen. The vibrations (frequency) were just fight for Alabama that night, especially for Nelson and Sears. One of the better games I watched so far. Congratulation to the Tide.

These last 16 games show how marginal seedings of the top 8 in each bracket are when it comes down to playing the games -- these teams are very close in basketball ability and competitiveness

If UConn wins again, their fans will be screaming about how they are bigger than Duke because they will have one more NCAA title 6-5….which is laughable. No serious college basketball fan thinks UCLA is better than Kentucky even though UCLA leads UK 11 to 8. UK is WAY WAY WAY bigger than UCLA. How you finish in EVERY single season counts….not just titles. Duke has 17 Final Fours compared to UConn’s 6 right now. UConn has MISSED 6 Tournaments in the past 13 years. That’s hurts the program’s stature too. CONSISTENCY of winning puts UConn behind other blue bloods. But if they get No. 6 it’s still pretty dang impressive.

Withers cost UNC the game with that final sequence. They were told to use the full clock and go high percentage. Worst case scenario they get the ball back to win. He chucks up a 3 with 15 left in the shot clock and then gives up an and 1 after getting back to his player late. Absolutely brutal.

This just might be the greatest defeat in North Carolina’s entire basketball tournament history.

@@Hal-yc9jd Gotcha. My point is…..both can be really good players at times (Davis much more so), but neither seems to handle the highest pressure situations well. In the final couple minutes versus Alabama, Davis was driving and putting up some really, really questionable and bad shots. Love was even worse against Clemson. And neither played very well against Kansas in the 2022 Tournament.
