🚲 Full Build Time-lapse: Custom Cargo E-Bike (Made From TRASH!) 3 Months Of Work in 25 Mins

(No Commentary, Just Building)
If you do want commentary, check out the full playlist with an 8-part series with full commentary and in depth explanations of what I'm doing and why.
This is the full build, it took me 3-4 months to complete and of course design and feature creep kept coming. This was supposed to be just a trash bike that wasn't that nice and I didn't care much about, but that changed pretty quickly. I kept making it nicer and nicer, and the rest is history.
I will be creating a more stripped down cargo bike soon, as well as updating and upgrading this bike for more power, so stay tuned for that.
What started out as a frame I found in the trash, turned into quite the endeavor involving a lot of welding, and a ton of 3D printing. I was just going to purchase some cheap stick on cargo baskets, but I figured that was way too easy, so I tried to create my own. On my way to the hardware store to pick up some metal I found this shopping cart on the side of the road and I used it to form some of the subframe to hold the cargo bins.
The bins are some craftsman tool bins that were very cheap, the racks were made from the shopping cart + a lot of angle iron and square tubing. This bike never came with disc brakes, so I created my own disc brake mounts and set up some hydraulic brakes for it. This motor and battery are the cheapest I could find on the market, 1000W hub motor and a 48V 14Ah battery pack. I already had these components that I wasn't using, which is why I wanted to throw them on this frame.
After all of the functional parts, I designed and created my own seat. I painted the frame and also designed a whole ton of crazy 3D printed parts to finish off the aesthetics. I integrated many LED holders to the 3D printed parts and it looks really amazing at night with the glowing red LEDs.
This project was never really supposed to be a project, and I have many more projects already in the works. Thanks for watching!

Thanks so much man! Problem is now I have to make another (trashier) cargo ebike because this one is too nice 😅 I already have plans to upgrade this one, and build another, but that build will actually be quick n' dirty 🍻

Nice! That would make the perfect food delivery bike I wonder if it would be possible to have one of the boxes on a type of gimbal system to hold drinks upright

Still the sickest diy cargo bike build I've seen! Have you ever thought about creating a discord where people could ask you (or other knowledgeable community members) questions on ebike projects they're working on? Once my warranty is up I'm gonna be making some modifications to my bike, and sometimes it's hard to find answers about very specific or niche things! 😅

Thanks man! I really appreciate it. Well, I have thought about it, but I feel like my channel is so small that there wouldn't be many people in there 😅 I almost always will answer anyone's questions here, on insta, if they email me, etc. I do have a patreon which of course I would help people there too. But if you have a question just ask wherever. I was thinking of doing livestreams every week and answer peoples questions, but again I don't think I'm big enough for that 👍

@@hightech-lowlife I get that. I was just thinking more along the lines of being able to schedule and hop in a call for some more technical stuff. Sometimes it's difficult through text, so that's the only reason I thought about it! Lol. But I appreciate you always responding and being willing to help out man!

Excellent video and craftsmanship. I think you will find that the rear pannier boxes are mounted too high. You will find that when loaded, the bike will want to tip from the high center of gravity when loading. A center stand type kickstand might help. What size motor and battery did you use? You are very creative and skilled. Thanks.

Thanks man, I thought about mounting them lower but that introduces more complexity with mounting and will not be as strong as a single, non-welded piece. Mounting them lower would also increase the width by another 3-4" (as the tops are the widest point) which spans further than the handlebars, I don't like having an extremity on the bike past the handlebars as you could get in a situation where you are passing within a channel and if the rear does not clear, could be disastrous. Center mount kickstand would be ideal, but I have since changed the length of the kickstand and it has helped a lot. When I made these videos it had a 1000W motor with a 48V 14Ah pack. I have since upgraded the drivetrain which I will be making a video about, and now it has a 1500W motor with a 60V 20Ah pack. 🍻

@hightech-lowlife it's all gonna be compressed to youtube quality anyway or does that make a big difference?

@@maximumchargeEV For most people probably not, but if you copy a compressed file and then recompress it, it does deteriorate 👍 Actually nix needing to email me, I will upload the songs to my site and then provide a link, but if you can rip em off YT then you have my permission 100% to use them. Thanks man!
