Hello! Great video! I also use a GFX50R & a Nikon D850. Adapted lenses on the GFX are incredible. I use a Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f1.4, Voigtlander Color-Skopar 28mm f2.8, Zeiss Distagon 35mm f2, Zeiss Planar 50mm f1.4, Nikkor 135mm f2.8 ais, Tokina ATX-Pro 100mm f2.8 D macro & native GF 45mm f2.8, GF 50mm f3.5. All of these are amazing with the GFX 50R. The 28, 35 & 50 mm full frame adapted lenses will have a slight vignette when used wide open, but it's not an issue as the resolution allows for so much flexibility when cropping. Happy shooting & stay safe!

Excellent information and pictures. Like you, I recently purchased the 50r and 50mm f3.5. Until I can get a deal on the 110m lens I purchased a metabones adapter to use my Nikon F mount lens. Its manual focus but I am getting excellent images with very little vignetting.

Great review! You mentioned that the shutter sounded slow even if at 1/2000s - this is expected. When you increase the shutter speed, the shutters are still moving at the same speed, but the delay between the first and second curtain shutter is shortened. This is why even the best cameras have a max flash sync speed of 1/250. Anything slower than 1/250 the whole sensor is exposed for a moment before the second curtain. Faster than 1/250, the second curtain will partially obstruct the sensor, ruining the flash photo

That 110mm looks gorgeous. I ordered the 100-200mm f5.6 because I figured that would be more useful, but I'll see if it's worth returning that and getting the 110mm instead. Although maybe the 110mm is more singular purpose (portraits), whereas I mostly shoot landscape.

Really great images! Thank you for sharing. I've been thinking about buying a GFXr myself and the question my brain keeps bumping into is "do I need this!!?". I'm still mostly a film guy believe it or not, but the cost per roll is just getting crazy out of hand at this point. Sticking with Fuji, a roll of Across II at this stage is over $12. So at 12 exposures a roll in medium format we're looking at $1.00 a shot roughly not even counting development costs. Ugggh.... The price of the GFXr doesn't seem so bad in comparison.

That was an excellent commentary. It would not convince me to purchase a Fujifilm GFX 50R, but would make me consider other Fujifilm cameras. It would also make me consider you for a wedding photographer if I were in the market. (A thousand miles and an existing 50 year marriage would negate that.) Your landscape images were wonderful. Since I'm looking at them on a 24" computer monitor, I imagine most of the credit goes to you, more than the camera. 16.51 minutes well spent. Thank you.

I recently started watching more camera reviewers that are less popular, and man, I really enjoyed them, especially yours! I am not a professional by any news, just a hobbyist, but like you said, this camera made me wanna head out and shoot more photos! I switched from a Sony A7iii, which technically is more superior in almost every way, but it felt more like a computer than a camera, and even though it had great color, great autofocus performance, I was never inspired to head out to shoot with it. I guess bottom line is we choose systems based on our needs, and that sony felt more like it was for professionals who require consistency and automation and more concerned with the output than the process, while the Fujifilm is just inspiring to look at, and to use. I started with an Xpro1, but always felt that APS-C is too cropped in for my liking. Full frame is great, but no such option for Fujifilm, so medium format it is!

Thanks! Yeah, I feel the same way about Sony. Great specs and performance, but for me it's just not enjoyable to use. The Fujifilm X-series has been the most enjoyable system I've used (not to mention it provides me the IQ and performance I need). I really like what they've been able to do with making medium format (albeit smaller than traditional Phase and Hasselblad systems) affordable and more attainable!

I went down the Sony path as a professional for my wedding work. Lasted about 9 months, I switched back to Fuji lucky I didnt sell me Fuji gear, even as a professional you need to enjoy the process of taken the image. Otherwise the results will show in your final images, I even look forward to editing Fuji files which I normally hate editing, so it goes to show you how important it is in your whole work flow.

But surprisingly asi started to glimpse at KZread I saw 4 or 5 reels on Fujifilm, Fujifilm, Fujifilm, and Fujifilm. That made me laugh. Why it's so special made me curious about this camera. I will have to touch and see and feel this camera once.

You dirty devil you! I too started out with the X-T1 and then the X-T2 and now the X-H1. I would love to be able to pick up the 50R used in "like new" condition sometime in the next year or so. You will need to work landscape photography into your routine in order to get full enjoyment out of the 50R.

Depends on the lens you'll be using on the 50r, but the ISO performance IS better on the 50r. However, I don't think it's worth the $3,000-$4,000 difference if it's your only reason for switching.

"I'm not a landscape photographer" Um, yes you are! You need to print that stuff and use it for staging and possibly sell them with the houses.

Yeah, the vertical tilt is a nice advantage to the S. I actually think I prefer the omission of the D-Pad as long as those custom buttons remain. The S just doesn't appeal to me as much though. It's much bulkier and just a different style altogether.

I use the Godox TT350F along with the Godox X1T transmitter. For wedding work, I literally just use the flash on camera and bounce it off a ceiling for reception work. Nothing to it really. For real estate, I shoot one ambient exposure and one flash exposure by bouncing the flash off the ceiling. I blend the two in PS. I recommend the tutorial by Garey Gomez. That's where I learned the method I use and he covers WAY more than I ever could. Haha. www.masteringrealestatephotography.com/

110 mm - extremely sharp for facial portraits

is the 10-24 wide enough for interiors? what about the 8-16 ?

It's plenty wide. Actually, I prefer to shoot at the 16mm mark (24mm equiv.) for a majority of my shots. If I shoot wider, it's usually at 12-14mm, but I try to avoid that if possible. I also like having the ability to go as tight as 24mm (35mm equiv.). This comes in handy if I'm trying to key in on a detail or shooting a vignette of a room. So, really, I'd be wasting my money on an 8-16 as I wouldn't make use of how wide it is and it doesn't give me the flexibility to zoom beyond 16mm.

What are your thoughts comparing the sharpness of 32-64mm and 110mm?

I was actually kind of surprised by just how sharp the 32-64 was. Both lenses in my mind were VERY sharp, but the 110mm blew me away.

Consider getting the Godox AD200 Pro flashes... they’re powerful, portable and very cheap considering their results and alternative flashes on the market.

If I were to use the 50R for real estate, I probably would get a couple. However, two AD200's cost $700 whereas two TT350f's are $170. I think if i were to use the 50R for real estate, the most reasonable option would be to adapt something like the Canon 24-70mm f4. It would be about an 18-55mm which would be the sweet spot the focal lengths I need AND I could get one plus an adapter for somewhere around $1,000. Ultimately, going that route wouldn't really make a difference in the end result (especially since my RE photos end up as only 2MP files on the web). Plus, having the smaller package of the X-T2 to lug around on the tripod is really nice AND I have a screen that tilts vertically. That's a HUGE plus for me.

I just recently got the xt-3 and I noticed that shutter speed @ 1/800 sec sound like I was at 1/60 sec man that is weird on Fuji 👍

hi i have an honest question why do you need a 45mb photo file for your shots? is it because you are printing on bill boards? to files are super big on medium format cameras and i wonder what is the use of it?

The simple answer is I don't need 50MP files. I got this camera purely because I *wanted* it and for no other reason. It's insanely fun to shoot with and the ridiculous image quality is a nice byproduct. :)

Are you shooting professionally? What kind of work do you do? Honestly, if your stuff is living online, you probably won't benefit from a medium format camera in terms of the image quality. I'm using the X-T2 for all my paid work (same sensor as the X-Pro2) and it's perfectly fine for anything I do (real estate, weddings, portraits, etc). Unless you just simply want the 50R for the simple fact that you just want one (like me), it probably wouldn't be worth getting.

Yeah. I think your money is better spent getting the right glass for the X-Pro2 vs dropping thousands on a 50R and lenses.

Medium format lenses aren't bigger than any other format when crop factor is taken into consideration.

I was referring to the physical size of the lenses. For example, the GF mount is much wider than my APS-C cameras so the lenses are much wider in diameter. It takes a physically bigger circle to cover that bigger sensor.

How has not having IBIS played out for you? Any times when you wish you had it?

IBIS is something I've never really needed, to be honest. I've never used a camera that had it, so the 50R is no different to me. I rarely, if ever find myself in a situation where it would be helpful.

I suggest focus stacking for real-estate photos on GFX camera - you will be surprised with results. There is no need for high F numbers. I would suggest F8 as ideal on GFX50r

The problem I see with that (and correct me if I'm wrong) is that I would need to focus stack multiple images for my ambient exposure and then do the same thing for my flash exposure. I would be doing this over the course of 20-40 separate interior compositions. Then working with that many focus stacked files in LR and Photoshop would be not only time consuming, but I would assume result in huge files to then layer blend. It doesn't seem like a very practical workflow for RE.

You don't need a powerful flash for the GFX50R. I'd use HDR to solve the problem you mentioned.

Using a flash/ambient workflow allows me to achieve the look I want more than HDR ever did. Brushing in a flash layer where I need it in PS is much easier and gets me a more natural look than trying to exposure blend. It's just my preferred style.

The reveal at 10:00... 🤯 More dangerous than the camera you need, is the camera you want! Your poor wife probably found out the same time we did! 😜

Everyone hates swipe features. Fuji removed the D-pad because the production savings of moving that to a tough screen was significant since they were going to go with touch screen for other reasons. But for anyone who has used the swipe knows it’s CRAP.

KentuckyMan30 “traditionally the realm of 6x6cm Hasselblads.” Ansel Adams time! You have more than enough resolution to shoot the 1:1 square format and then crop accordingly. This would keep the camera horizontal at all times and possibly give you new possibilities visually.

Embarrassing? I like the way it feels in my hands. What do you want me to say? It's a completely subjective thing. I wouldn't become indignant at someone who felt the opposite (as you clearly do), because like I said, it's subjective.

The only embarrassed one should be you for sheepishly being so emboldened in your opinion-masquerading-as-matter-of-fact and thinking that anyone cares that you didn't watch this video. Who are you kidding!?

I can’t wait for more GFX content as an X-T3 shooter who is interested in the GFX system but not prepared to spend the money just yet 🙂
