Fuji GFX 50R vs GFX 50S, Which One is The Best?

In this video I talk about the similarities and differences between the Fuji GFX 50R and GFX 50S. Even though they share the exact same DNA, but there are some pretty significant differences. I go thru all of them and finally tell you which one I think is best.

great video! I was originally thinking that you were going to lean towards the GFX50s, but after seeing this- I think that the gfx50R is such a great contender with beautiful design. Perfect camera to bring around for non-studio type photoshoots.

Thanks Justin! Both are GREAT cameras. I would only see the 50S more studio-focused due to it's form factor, however i still prefer using USB C to tether and the 50R is fine for studio, especially if you're tethering. Either one is good on location. I took the 50S out on location shoots before the 50R was an option, but prefer the 50R for it's size and form factor. Cheers!

I have the Tilt Swivel adapter and a battery grip. I absolutely love it on the 50S but the grip does add weight. It would be awesome if the 50R had a grip. The 50S's port design I find to be more accessible and pleasing since I don't have to move things out of the way on a tripod that may have other adapters and/or larger components. They both shoot 1080P video...the gfx100 and 100S do 4K video.

The R is a great design and fairly affordable on the used market. The 100s and 50sII share the new body which feels great in the hand. Smaller than the 50S and different than the 50R. It's sort of the best of both worlds. Overall the 100s is hugely superior to the 50 as a camera and spec. That and with so many DSLRs now boasting 50+ mpx, it's not that different. The 100S has a BSI sensor, Phase Detect AF and performs like a modern camera. The 50R has great design but the performance is still the same from 2015. So if you're not in a hurry, it's still a great system and there are now a lot more lenses and adapters available to make the GFX a more viable system. Thanks for subbing and good luck with your purchase!

A 50Rii would be my winner - if it had the dual axis tilt LCD from the 50s. I actually like the idea of having the separate ISO dial that the 50s has....if you customise the ISO to be on the wheel around the shutter button on the 50r, does that get accidentally nudged on occasion?

Adam Lerner I’ve only had a play of the 50r & s in a camera shop, so I’ve not got a view on the AF really. I was primarily looking at the GFX’s for use with adapted manual focus lenses, so the AF performance is not high on my ‘wants’ list....but then again, I’m an A7R3 owner/shooter, so when I want/need good AF, I’d use that anyway. I’d like a GFX primarily to use as a digital xpan/TX. I’ve also been contemplating Leica M10 for use with some of my old manual focus classic lenses....but, I fear I’d miss the EVF too much.....which is another reason why I was contemplating a gfx, and I don’t think I can adapt all to M mount, but can adapt most if not all to GFX. I also do Astro imaging & nightscapes, I often use a low view point and very wide angle lens in portrait orientation to include as much night sky as possible, so that explains the desire for an LCD flipping out in portrait orientation.....and why I’m torn between the s & the r......the 50r seems a little like an M10 with EVF to me.

I absolutely love the design of the GFX50S. It is gorgeous. I own two of them and 7 of their lenses. I use the 45, 63, 80 (updated) 110, 120, 250 and 32-64mm as well as the vertical grip, which I rarely use, way too heavy in combination with the body. Have used the 50s for my shoots for VOGUE, ELLE and Numero magazines since getting them a few months ago. I need the rear screen to pivot in portrait mode, as that is where most of my fashion, beauty images reside. I also have the optional tilt eyepiece viewfinder. No nose touching the rear screen problems.

@@BenjaminKanarek Sounds like you've got your workflow dialed-in. I greatly prefer working tethered with a Digitech who can help manage the process as the files are coming in. I don't use the LCD when I'm shooting and having a large external monitor to use for lighting, falloff, separation, color and focus reference I find invaluable. The AD typically is on set with me and the model(s) and we don't present until me and my Digitech have a chance to review and select. But whatever works man, right?! I just love the ability to tether to C1 and think its a really powerful way to work with such a brilliant camera whether I'm shooting on location or in studio. I'll tether practically anywhere.

Interesting ... 3 years later on the used market the prices have turned. The 50S is cheaper to buy used.I guess this will be until a new version of the 50R will be introduced that will be cheaper new than the 50S II. Than the 50Rs will drop to half their current price - or there will not be a new version of the R and it will be one of those cult cameras that will be more expensive used then it's new price

Great price for a great camera. The 50S is still totally valid and useful today and hard to beat the look you get from a large sensor. And now there's such an incredible amount of lens options and adapting lenses. So I can't talk you out of it. @@random__handle But WHY would you chose a MF camera to do 4K. The larger the sensor and Mp, the larger file and power you need to do 4K unless it really crops the sensor in recording... which in That case you're better off getting an APS-C 4k camera. MF is designed for high end stills resolution, Not video. In video anything bigger than FF is redundant and a waste of money all around. In fact FF is probably over kill in most cases. Just look at what Hollywood cinema is being shot on, mostly super 35mm which is a cinema crop on a 35MM frame, smaller capture area than your standard FF sensor ratio
