Fuel Blog Part 6 - Canadian Tire Gas Results - I'm Surprised!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today, I filled up at a 'smaller' fuel company, at least compared to other companies I have been to, and that is Pioneer. They are still a pretty big chain though.
The results for this video were from Canadian Tire gas, and this was a big time stark contrast to the last company I used, Mobil. And that was the biggest shock, as Canadian Tire does not have the best reputation with some Canadians. But this gas was by far the best I have used. I got the best mileage from it, the car ran the best...it was pretty good! So far, this was the best gas and it is the current front runner in my test.
1. Petro Canada
Mileage - 134.2 kms
L/100km - 14.9
MPG - 15.8
Pros - Combusts well in the higher RPM range, average combined fuel economy.
Cons - erratic idle, hesitates in the low RPM range, acceleration feels average
2. Costco Canada
Mileage - 127.9 kms
L/100km - 15.6
MPG - 15.1
Pros - Smooth acceleration across the entire RPM range, smooth idle, acceleration surges nicely
Cons - average fuel economy
3. Mobil
Mileage - 113.7 kms
L/100km - 17.6!
MPG - 13.4!
Pros - Car started and drove, and didn't blow up!
Cons - Poor Idle, poor power across RPM range, rough idle, engine much louder than normal, terrible fuel economy
4. Canadian Tire
Mileage - 146.0 kms
L/100km - 13.7
MPG - 17.2
Pros - Fantastic Fuel Economy, Smooth idle, engine did not have to work hard, great power band in both low and high RPM ranges, car takes off while barely touching the accelerator
Cons - At this point, none that I can see.

Interesting video! I recently switched to Canadian Tire gas the past few weeks and been loving it!. They're cheaper in my area a few cents from the other station plus i have the Triangle Mastercard to get cash back. I haven't noticed any change to my mileage or range going higher. Also to note that, they're premium gas is at least 12 cents cheaper than Esso, Shell etc.

Hey, that price difference alone makes it worth it! Unfortunately, the Canadian tire gas in my area is par with other suppliers, but I still find it to be one of the best fuel options for my vehicle. As long as fuel econ or power doesn't get worse, and the price is cheaper that's a win in my book!

joe scott 6 minutes ago Great review. I was a devoted shell premium user based on someone telling me it was ethanol free. Thats important for me because i store my car in the winter. Shell premium has a $0.30+ difference between regular and premium. Way too much. Tried costco gas and noticed the same uptick in performance that you mention here.

Interesting! The 0 ethanol makes sense especially for your parked car. In some areas, it seems it's getting harder and harder to find true 0 ethanol gas. Even this Canadian Tire gas...last year, 91 was 0% ethanol, but this year they changed it to have ethanol content. Happy to hear you're trying different companies...it really does make a difference

I'm well aware of that. But those are the sacrifices made to inform people. And that's ok anyways. Not hard for me to change my pump if it fails. Other than this test, my tank is always full.
