From the Field -- First Flights on the VQ Warbirds Bonanza Vtail

Ойын-сауық

Well, our fields have opened up and so it was time to maiden the VQ Warbirds Bonanza Vtail! This past Saturday I got in 6 flights on the airplane including the maiden and have the airplane mostly tuned in now. In short, the airplane flies awesome and really looks great in the air! My last two flights of the day were so much fun as the power system really pulls the airplane like crazy! In the 6 flights, I ended up moving the CG forward a bit and programming in a throttle to elevator mix to add a small amount of down elevator with throttle as the airplane wanted to climb with throttle and wasn't really responding to small thrust line adjustments. Lastly, the airplane needed a touch of down elevator for level flight trim too. Once I sorted those things out, man I'm loving it! A couple more flights and she'll really be singing along. Only squawk otherwise were the nose gear doors need a little adjustment and the main gear doors need to be replaced (lost one on the second flight, doh!). #TheRCGeek #BonanzaVtail #MaidenFlight

    Glad I could be there for the maiden, Chris! Was happy that you saved her on that first landing. The BB V-Tail is my favorite civilian bird since I was a kid. Thanks again for the invite!

    That’s a loud motor, what’s in it? I couldn’t figure out on the first landing why you brought it in why you were landing on a carrier. Gear door issues... That old chestnut. Glad to see you have having one of my many “Vu âjdê” (This has never happened to anyone ever before) kind of flights.

  • @Thercgeek

    @Thercgeek

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, that first landing was interesting, haha! I’ve already remade and reengineered the doors. I think what happened is the flap pushrod interfered with the door during transition and that’s what caused it the come undone. Won’t be a problem with these new doors. Motor is an eflite power 52 with master airscrew 13x8 prop. What you’re hearing is the prop noise. It sounds really authentic actually, I dig it!

    The RC Geek Master Airscrew props are the best. I just like saying the name. Great conversation starter. I told them they needed T-shirts, and I would like to produce them at Bill Shepard’s facility, IF I GOT TO COME UP WITH THE TAG LINES- “Have you been Master Airscrewed?” “If you’re not flying with Master, you’re Airscrewed.” “Master Airscrew- It’s not the size of you prop, it’s how you balance it.” “Remember that crash you had? Bet it wasn’t our prop. The only reason you got it in the air was probably because of us.” “Master Airscrew- Made and Balanced in California. Not Wuhan.”
