How Good is the New E-flite Beechcraft D18?
Ойын-сауық
Here's our initial thoughts and impressions of the E-flite Beechcraft D18, which you can pick up via bit.ly/3yWMAfx (BnF) or bit.ly/3sg9Wcb (PnP) to help support our channel so we can keep bringing videos like this to you. Overall, it's a solid 8/10 - but the squirrelly ground handling keeps us from giving it a higher score. Be aware that it'll require some serious stick and rudder practice, but you'll be a better pilot for it.
Check out Hangar 18 Hobbies, our local hobby shop! I'm proud to be their demo pilot.

Perfecting a good landing is super rewarding and is well worth investing the time needed to get consistantly stable smooth landings...its one of my favorite things to do in fixed wing rc aircraft

Love this plane in a model. Can't wait to get one.
Amazing looking Bird, and as always, awesome flying 🤙🏼
Beautiful final landing my man very well done 🎉🎉🎉🎉😍
I had very little issue with ground handling. Only took two trys to get it right. If you disconnect the servo arm on elevator, it's much easier to attach. No third arm needed. HH hit it out of the park with this one!
What a classy plane.. Great video boys.. Solid review. - Will
Nice flight Brody . Very scale fun flyer plane . 🗣️💯💪
Jon we got some extra throw out of the rudder mechanically without going too far out on the servo arm if you want to check out our review...we show how to do it. It makes keeping the tail in check on takeoff easier. (and for you probably more wild acro! lol) Also getting the elevator clevis on is easy if you first take the arm off the servo and slide the push rod back to clear the slot. Nice review buddy. This is my kind of plane...love it!

Ended up moving it to the next hole out and changing out the wheels to DuBro low bounce 2.5" wheels - hopefully that'll help tame it down. Also changed out the doodoo-tier tailwheel for a much better rubber one that's a little thicker.

@@TwoBrosRC Hello guys, I ordered DuBro 2.75" as the OEM tires measured 2.8". My question is how did you change them out with out damaging the landing gear?
@TwoBrosRC

@@ralphfrasier2079 You use a sharp edged screwdriver or awl of some kind and insert it into the plastic gear strut at the seam, then slowly peel them apart. After that you remove the wheel, replace it, and toss the wheel back on again and glue the halves back together.
That’s my speed right there.

It do!
Increasing the tail wheel 2 sizes larger help stabilize the take off roll outs much better i get my tail up asap to maintain a straight line down the runway. Another good reason to up size your tail wheel is that it gets the wing angle more level and makes it less likely to hop and bounce down the runway.

Love my d18. I want to see how you tricked your out though!
A nice review thus far guys. It's a gorgeous bird. I've seen you fly tail draggers, ie: warbirds/timber's etc. Any chance the differential thrust was causing the plane to over react to inputs on takeoff/landings?? - I'm guessing you gave the surfaces as much authority as possible. Good stuff TBRC. AirHammer out??
@TwoBrosRC
Жыл бұрын
100% is as much as the servos can travel. They have some kind of chip inside that prevents travel beyond 100%. The differential thrust might be the issue but it's squirrelly feeling the moment the tail begins to fly - so it's probably not the thrust at all.
I hope you plan to push the envelope in future vids. I’m envisioning wicked flat spins with more differential thrust (My EC-1500 would really wrap up with one at WOT and the other at idle)…….But with the Twin Beech you can put one in reverse and one in forward thrust! Imagine the fun!
@TwoBrosRC

That's generally how we do things. But you can't put one in reverse with the other spinning normal unfortunately.

@@TwoBrosRC Thats weird, I’ve never seen that kind of ground looping craziness with a yaw axis gyro. Except on a UMX. Are the wheels/tires binding on the struts, maybe? Something funky has to be going on if a gyro isn’t helping. I heard you mention 2:53 thrust differential, that could be a culprit.
Great slow mo. 1:36 15:50 shows the differential thrust is late and out of sync, causing the yaw instability. One again, just bcs its possible doesn’t mean we have to do it. I’ll bet its solid on takeoff without the robot on the throttles, especially with the H tail activated by the twin motors.
@TwoBrosRC
Жыл бұрын
The manual called for trimming the throttle up to right before the motors activate to get the most out of the differential thrust that's active by default. It's been reset to normal trim. That should help.

@TwoBrosRC
Жыл бұрын
@@ronnymiller7395 It's easily a 90+ MPH model, probably 110 at full speed with a dive.
Just a couple of flawed items: The left engine has about 2-3 degrees more down-thrust than the right. A couple 5/64" washers on the lower part of the left motor mount raises its thrust line to match the right. Would like to just shut off the differential engine/rudder feature. Giving full rudder on takeoff just results in a ground loop. Otherwise, a very good effort by E-flite!
@TwoBrosRC

You can adjust the differential thrust using your transmitter.
What makes the ground handling so annoying? and do you think this is worth getting without access to a paved runway?
@TwoBrosRC
Ай бұрын
The wheels are hard foam without any grip on pavement, so they slide around easily. Differential thrust being active by default along with it being a taildragger makes it difficult to handle. Our newest vid on the plane features upgraded DuBro low bounce treaded rubber wheels, and they make a massive difference in ground handling: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z3h5xKaThK3PlNY.html
