FREE Transmission Mod! 6L80 thermostat delete

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Here’s a way to run your transmission a little cooler, living in a country where summer temperatures reach 50+ degrees Celsius, it’s never a bad thing to have your transmission run a little cooler.
There are a few kits out there which allow you to still incorporate the thermostat itself, however this method directly runs the fluid through the external cooler from when you first start the car.

Awesome video. Went with the Superior Solutions Sure Cool STL010. What a difference!! So, question. My level on my dipstick fully warmed at a fluid temp of 150 is at top dot on the stick. I see yours is right in the middle between the two dots. Am i overfull? 2020 5.3 Suburban. Thanks in advance.

I did the same on my truck without the cooler and made a significant difference in lowering the running temps. Wish I had this video when I did the mod, would have helped me out a lot.

be interesting to see the difference now on both trucks with thermostat delete, one with external cooler and one without.

Did the sure cool and mishimoto transmission cooler in my 2014 silverado 1500 and my temps never went over 130. Been through 2 or 3 winters now with both sure cool and mishimoto cooler. Just curious if running temps between 100-130 hurt anything besides frequent fill up at the pump.

Nice! Honestly since I live in the desert where we deal with summer outside temps of 122 degrees Fahrenheit, our winter never get that cold so I don’t have to deal with those issues, from experience the biggest enemy to transmissions is heat which burns out the clutch plates which I’m sure don’t mind cold temps, the remaining components such as the valve body and torque converter are not cold sensitive either so I think we’re good

@burgerbuilds thanks for the insightful info. Heard different info from numerous people stating that these particular trucks need to be at operating temp around 180. I agree on heat being a transmission enemy for sure. I also noticed it shifts smoother ever since I've changed all fluids to Amsoil. Next is the HP tune on the torque converter, turning off all slips. Thanks again.

@@viixiconik yes I agree you can’t run them too cold, but I’ve had numerous 6L80s from previous Generation trucks that did not have the thermostat yet and they ran at 130 degrees stock with a cooler, had a supercharged 6.2 running through a stock 6l80 for years never had an issue. Yes HP tuners is what I use as well, get the shifts crisp

I did this mod on my 2015 Suburban with 150k miles. Is it bad for trans to be too cool/cold? The temps are low now.

The biggest enemy to an automatic transmission is heat, previous Gen 6l80 trucks didn’t have a thermostat and with external cooler they ran the same temps never had any issue.

He's right, you might even see things on the internet about drag cars running an operating temp of like 120F, but they run really low because when they do a 1/4 mile their trans temp shoots up rapidly. Heat is the ultimate enemy of hydraulic fluid and ATF is a hydraulic fluid.

@@burgerbuilds trans fluid has detergent in it. Just like engine oil does, if it doesn't get hot enough the detergent doesn't work. It also affects the viscosity of the fluid , keeping it too cool keeps the fluid too thick for too long.

@@indyguy3400 understood, however I have owned numerous 2009-2013 gm suvs with the same 6l80 transmission that do not run a thermostat where from factory the transmission temps were between 60-70 degrees Celsius, with 350,000km on the truck and no issues (same transmission fluid) , this mod is more intended for offroad use, before I had flipped the thermostat the temps offroad would hit 110 degrees easily and take a while to cool down, currently with this mod they have not gone over 100

@@indyguy3400Wrong, Up until the stupid installation of a transmission thermostat NO GM vehicle or Any other had such a think, Heat breaks down Any fluid including motor oil which leaves not only residue but lower pressures, When a transmission is failing it will run hotter then he** which is what smokes the clutches, Try looping the transmission lines before any cooler and see how long it lasts.... It won't
