R&B Classic
Classic soul at its finest 💯
A Classic
Yesssss. Such a classic song. Love
.....Oh my GOD! ....***FREDERICK TRIVIA TIME!!*** ...I'll be gentlllllleeeeee..... - ...this low-low-LOW budget tune was an NYC indie label track that became....I don't know how to describe it.....a, 'proto-New Jack Quiet Storm' Ballad; It was a throwback (for 1984-1985) R&B tune, but it became popular FIRST, with the (early) Hip-Hop crowd..... ...Classic soul Singers were still popular then (Rene & Angela, Freddie Jackson, Shirley Murdoch), but, a younger audience were finding their OWN 'Quiet Storm' singers, and Frederick was a local one... - ...VERY interesting that Empress noticed the Female Singer first (2:18), because SHE was the one that made the tune a hit...her name was Janice Dowlen, and, she was NEVER credited on the original release! .... It wasn't a 'big' hit (#48 R&B, Feb., 1985), but got LOTS of R&B Radio play in NYC, making it popular.... ...as I said, it was a tune that opened the doors for 'tag Girl' Vocals / Vocalists; "Doin' It" (LL Cool J), "All I Have" (Jennifer Lopez), Ashanti (w/ Ja Rule), and MANY more.... ...BUT! ....IT was covered in 1991 by Freestyle Dance Singer DINO, where HIS version hit #31 Pop Feb., 1991.... kzread.info/dash/bejne/oaCYxdmQnaazo84.html ....Unfortunately, Janice died 8 months later (Oct., 1991), from a Heart attack.....

This was so informative. Thank you! I liked the 1991 cover. Great rendition.
This is my jam too, but it was a more regional hit though
Definitely a classic…….Memories unlocked
Great song, from mid 80s. He was not a known artist and even finding the song at that time was a little bit of a chore. Pre-Internet so you had to go to the record store and look at the printed Billboard rankings or hope the radio gave shout out during their programming.

This couldn't have been a hit...don't know it...but good.
Boom Box was the big radio/cassette players that took a boat load of C or D batteries. Lol Idky her name wasn't credited! You know how shady the industry can be. I'm so glad you liked the song!

Ohhhhh $hit!! I forgot about this song. Heeeey...
Definitely a classic R & B slow jam. You should check out and react to a song called "Nights Over Egypt" by the Jones Girls. It's another classic I'm sure you will like.
