Stupendo voce unica bravo

Dear Roberta! It's a history .. amazing. An energetic, confident, incredibly great and beautiful! Corelli is the best! Thank you! Eve
Gracias por esta belleza, Franco es ùnico
The best tenor of all ages. Good looks, fabulous voice, powerful voice. Fantastic musician. Just love all his recordings. ❤❤
His voice was a free spirit.
Grazie

C'era a quei tempi anche Nikolov, tenore piuttosto sottovalutato.
Grandissimo
I had the great honor of seeing this phenomenon something like 50 times. When he sang, GOD visited the opera! I simply canNOT understand how some poor, unknowing souls express dislike for this giant!

I can only offer my own thoughts. The SOUND was always glorious! Unique shimmering acoustical properties. Ive never disliked a video, but I did dislike his musical sloppiness, legubreous portamenti, annoying mannerisms, and lack of involment and interest in his collegues or what was happening on stage after 1970. I recall a La Boheme- early- mid 70s that was so sad and infuriating because he was such a great singer. The voice was still there. He just didnt seem to care. I adore early and prime Corelli (like this recording). Late Corelli (The Romeo and Werther period) makes me want to slap him. He fans were always loyal and vociferous. I cant compete with your numbers. I heard him a handful of times, and that late in his career. And he WAS a very nice man but rather shy and totally " hen picked"(or is it "pecked"). ...anyway...his wife abused him - in public-but he put up with it.

Perhaps a person has to see a tenor in the house to fully appreciate his voice and art form. This was true about Corelli Di Stefano and MDM. All TERRIFIC but different in their own way. The only disappointment I had seeing a big name tenor in the house was Domingo.
Corelli is excellent as usual but the orchestra is also killing here!
Una vera canna d'organo ...
Thank you so much for this wonderful recording of a very special occasion! The great Corelli always delivers the greatest pleasure, the most genuine emotion and interpretation of the great Italian verismo!
Wonderful! I just love "mal reggendo" anyway, and when Corelli lends that splendid voice to it, it is just wonderful to listen to--the absolute quintessence of Verdian High Melodrama. Thanks for this, Roberta, it's terrific. The photo is great too!
Sublime....
MOLTE GRAZIE ROBERTA
fantasztikus.
Bravo Roberta !!!!!
Thank you for posting. Hard to believe Price and Corelli debuted on the same night. I have a special place in my heart for Corelli, whom I was fortunate to hear three times on stage. My parents saw him once in concert with Tebaldi.

It was their Met debut. They sang together in Il Trovatore in 1958 in Verona.
Passionate, dramatic, electrifying and unforgettable...from the superb to the sublime... and to think, with English subtitles no less! The gods have smiled upon us today, Dear Roberta, with your arresting historic recording and video! A phenomenal debut for an artist upon whose singular expressive vocal artistry the sun has never set! Irene Dalis is not Barbieri but turns in a fine performance as Azucena! Thank you for posting!
This was also Price's Met debut. A year later, they would be in their first Tosca at the met alongside Cornell MacNeil.
Incredibile
fantastico! grazie!!!!

Leontyne Price received a 42 minute standing ovation that night.
I only know Sig. Corelli's singing via audio recordings and videos. My impression is that, in addition to that glorious voice, he had a most likeable personality. Also, I must point out that he was one of the most handsome male singers I have seen. Perhaps I'm shallow, but there's nothing wrong with being both talented & gorgeous, IMO.

@jjaayy t His speaking voice sounds fine to me and not especially light or high. But tenors don't normally have deep booming speaking voices, not sure why you'd expect them to

Taylor, Jay M. It depends what you listen to. Only one interview sounded too squeaky. An off day??All other interviews sounded just fine. Listen to his interview on Swedish tv with Brigit Nelson. He is funny and speaks in English.
Thank you very much. An unknown record for me. Very bright, emotional performance. Corelli, as always on top!

Quando si dice "tenore eroico"...bisogna ascoltare Corelli,Del Monaco e forse i melomania moderni capirebbero e non applaudirebbero i canidi che si atteggiano a splendidi cantanti d'opera che trionfano oggi in certi teatri

In 1961 he was already 40. It is a shame that MET did not invite him at least 5 years earlier. I realize he would compete with Mario del Monaco and Jussi Bjorling but it was Rudolf Bing to keep their tempers down.
The old timers say that this performance was better than the Sat. afternoon broadcast three days later! I have the the Sat. broadcast anyone have this one ?
