Muti is such a genius - but a such monster to the singers. The cabaletta is insanely fast. But Frittoli is well up to the challenge. Magnificent performance!

Frittoli is one of my favorite sopranos. She was also a wonderful Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni. Her acting is sublime; her movements and gestures are meaningful and supremely elegant. It' such a pleasure to watch everybody beautifully costumed instead of running around in rags, army coats and their underwear, I'm so sick of that nonsense, some of these videos are like watching a circus freak show.

Bellissima! Frittoli has been great in the past..The difference is Slim and pretty than now..

You know who sounds like her today? Nicole Car has a very similar timbre to Frittoli.

I heard that in Italy opera is like Broadway in USA and if they don't understand text, they boo the singer. It doesn't seem to be the case here... Interesting...Maybe this used to be in 1950's and 1960's but today what matters is vibrato!!!

It dipends on the situation. In romantics arias the expression of the voice is more important than the text. But in classics retitatives you have to have a good pronunce like an actor

@@franciscobois Ok, but why do they use subtitles even when singing in native language. Opera today is an odd art form which has zero relevance in modern society. Honestly. Here is the level on a typical opera house audience applauding those comedy singers. One of them must have a goat parent. Frittoli does not efface memories of Callas, Price or Kabaivanska, but she brings an admirable musicality to this scena. The scale of singing is perhaps a size or so smaller than we are used to in this role, but within those boundaries she sculpts phrases beautifully, and her delicate nuances are most attractive. In the cabaletta, her dark tone and command of fioritura make this for once an enjoyable moment rather than one to dread, as it often was even with such singers as Milanov, Stella and Tebaldi. Too bad the Inez sounds like a middle-aged chicken, but then, I've never heard that role sung well.

Ha un po’ il collo bloccato alla Ciofi e delle movenze che sembrano più adatte alla bambola meccanica Olympia 🤷🏼‍♂️ Vocalmente non sarà il massimo ma sicuramente è spanne sopra alla Spazzatura che si sente nell’ultimo decennio (o anche ventennio)

Barbara si prende qualche discutibile licenza sui tempi e sulla linea melodica di questa difficile aria.. tuttavia, non si può che dire che la sua è una bella voce e che la sua Leonora è convincente .

Le voci totalmente diverse: Netrebko ha una voce naturale ed ha un grande vibrato ed estensione,. invece Barbara canta con più tecnica ma non ha una granché di voce...

It's funny how most everyone below is praising Frittoli's singing here, because I distinctly remember her performance getting a terrible review in OPERA NEWS. The critic said that Frittoli's voice was not big enough for Leonora at La Scala, that her singing was inadequate. Personally, I don't know what to think, as I wasn't there and have never liked Frittoli much anyway. Something about her just annoys me -- I think it's the combination of her "wide" vibrato and her nasal (to my ears) accent. But I tend to agree with that critic; I think the music needs a slightly bigger and much more "nuanced" soprano voice.

I saw the above comment and your reply. I think Ms. Fritolli sings this wonderfully. A bigger voice would struggle with the coloratura. Leontyne Price is the exception.

I´ve heard Frittoli as Desdemona at the huge opera house in Hamburg, Germany. Believe me, her voice is big enough to sing a more lyric Leonora. She sings this wonderful. But the ideal voice for this is the legendary Zinka Milanov. That is the Olymp and unmatched. But Frittoli did a good job.

+Claire Soullier Un aria come questa ...che dovrebbe fare? ballare in attesa che giunga Manrico, gli stati d'animo di un personaggio cambiano con la voce con lo sguardo...in palcoscenico conviene non muoversi troppo.

colore di voce poco adatto à questo repertorio.
