I think both countries have a good squad….but I think France has some positive adventure about them when they get onto the pitch…. Rashford and Grelish I think dwell too much on the ball even in times when they have to just lay a pass…..

I haven’t got a clue what Frank’s rant is all about at the start. Go into any comment section on England videos and you’ll see there are plenty of comments/likes saying France has the best squad in the world! Most English people are under no illusion about just how good France are…I mean, they just beat us at the last World Cup!

England would have a good chance if they had a proper manager. As a side note, I don't think any English fan would know how to react if they see Harry Maguire holding up the trophy with a smug grin on his face next year.

100% agree. England with a Klopp or Guardiola would be a different animal and with that calibre of coach I would have no problem calling England the favourites for all the next major trophies. Southgate is a cautious mediocre and I don’t feel confident he would make the right decision in-game to,win a game. England lost to Italy in the Euros finals because he was too cautious and didn’t react to in-game changes and that is what I feel will stop England winning

With Guehi and Tomori in defence, England can play a high line with a faster defenders meaning their press becomes far more effective with less space and more potent in attack and if you look at the goals England conceded against France, they both came from the England defensive line being too deep.

From a french fan: yes you are perfectly right to be optimistic about english team, this is a fantastic squad, and it’s the 2d team per my own ranking. But France is ahead: center backs apart, where the difference is tremendous, we also have a better goalkeeper (or 2 as the game Lens-Arsenal proved it). We have Mbappe, Bellingham is quickly getting at the same level but is not completely there yet. And I don’t agree on defensive midfielders. Tchouameni is unbelievable for France or Real Madrid this year, Camavinga was outstanding last year (but not in his best form currently) and don’t forget about Griezmann who was both our best defensive midfielder and offensive generator in the last world cup. You have Kyle Walker but we have Theo Hernandez. Also there is a good team spirit in our squad currently. To sum it up: the 2 teams are the clear favorites but I still give a slight advantage to France. My view. But only the competition will say if I am right or wrong about all this.

Your peak was your win in WC 1966, since then and the real emergence of France in the 80s, France is the dominant force from the 2. I recognize england is back and getting better. But this is because, as we do, you rely on players coming from african descent. Your best players are from this origin as well (Bellingham, Saka, Walker, …). Only Kane in your top players is from another origin, we have Griezmann that way also. They are english, born in England, not immigrants. Same for us.

England needs to win a major tourney while Kane is still in his prime because without Kane England is much weaker

It was expected that France would beat Scotland but at least Scotland improved drastically in comparison to previous years… England definitely looks like the sexy pick because they FINALLY gave it to Italy and Italy had their number for years… Kane played way more physically and used his size maybe Bayern Munich has improved his toughness and physicality… If I bet money I would put it on M’Bappe and the Frenchmen (lol “M’Bappe and the Frenchmen” sounds like a pop music band) they play BETTER with pressure and M’Bappe brings it in bigger matches and that’s the reason why England has no modern trophies. England typically shrivels up in the big moments and big matches in recent years. Ironically I believe England has the best football league but they don’t have any recent national trophies and the French league isn’t very competitive but the French players always contend and typically win the top trophies.

On Paper Portugal May be the best team in Europe, especially when you consider depth. They are stacked with phenomenal talent.

We say this before every major international tournament England have a very good squad and it’s there there’s a lot of talent on paper and their team is very very deep apart from their attack and midfield their defense isn’t really that strong and I’m talking about the center halves, and even if John Stones is an excellent defender he’s injured way too much and having a player like Harry Maguire in their defense is an issue due to his lack of first team football at club level and you got a player like Kalvin Phillips who’s in your team even if he’s not playing at all for Manchester City and Jordan Henderson plays in Saudi Arabia yet is good enough to get picked for England and Gareth Southgate is depending on players that shouldn’t be anywhere near the England squad which makes no sense for a team that has aspirations of winning this tournament. The likes of Harry Kane Jude Bellingham Bukayo Saka and others are excellent players and they have rising players and the most in form player in Europe right now and I wanna believe that England can win the Euros next summer since I think France will win the whole tournament, if they are to go on and end this long international trophy drought Gareth Southgate needs to make some big decisions and pick players who are match fit and are actually able to contribute and perform at the tournament rather than picking your favorites that by the way hardly even play at club level and don’t play in a top 5 league in Europe anymore.

The last time a country had won both Champions League and either Euro or World Cup at the same year was the Netherlands in 1988. If you look at the players, Portugal is right up there. But martinez will have his defensive problems. And there are not many to replace Ronaldo as a striker. Ramos, after tyyat hatrick in world cup did not do much. Leao is not a central striker. Neither is jota. Andrea silva is not to be seen now.

As an American who loves European and British football, I have to agree with Frank, though my focus is on a different aspect of the "English football arrogance." It's the way English pundits (and even fan-channels) talk about non-British European leagues. They talk as if any team from the English Isthmus Conference is better than teams from the top-division in the Erividise, the French league, or even the Bundesliga. Now, as Frank says, that's not the fault of the English players or even the clubs per se; but English football media has convinced itself that the English game is always the best game, and who cares about what the evidence actually says.

@f-zone_ Top 5 league you say. Hmm, think that needs to be checked. Many of the Greek players were in that team were playing abroad, including one of them that was playing for Hearts in Scotland. Oh by the way around about 2003 to 2007 how many Greek club teams got to European finals? That's right ZERO. Scottish teams got to two finals in that 4 year period. That was a very effective Greek national team though with a cunning old German coach who set them up to be very defensive and suffocating and to steal a goal on the counter attack. I can't knock what they achieved, I admire that but I don't think they would knock the s**t out of this Scotland team. It'd probably be a tight game with goals at a minimum.

Has to be said that we’re in an era right now that lacks a lot of elite teams. Sure England and France look to be the 2 most talented, settled squads on paper but we could see another mini surprise from a 2nd tier contender like Italy did last time. Portugal never have made it work with their star names other than one time against Switzerland Spain control games but can they break down super organized sides?
