With a normal, same-size, same strength guy, it would have been hairy; but with another elite who is 50lb heavier and much stronger.... and Nicky Rod's able to pull his twisted arm out of the situation & went on to immediately use that arm to tap the 280lb big guy the next 30 seconds... wow!

true but tbh Dan made some terrible mistakes on the arm bar as well. He tried to secure the arm bar with his hands instead of his legs. Isolate the should, stop the guy from moving than crank. Dan basically did the opposite. Allowing Nick to even move a inch is enough and he did nothing to prevent that. TBH, this might be because dan is so used to facing guys who are so much smaller that they tap much easier he might not have learned the proper mechanics.

@@lostexodus I get it but my point is that being overly worried about being “boring” is a good way to turn bjj into just another sport, or worse some kind of entertainment-focused thing. Bjj is fundamentally supposed to be about the art of self-defence, period. In this case the winner not only survived but managed almost all of the offence against a much larger opponent, which is exactly what the art is about. If you want entertainment you can watch WWE, I’m ok with bjj remaining niche and “boring”. This is just my opinion.

I was watching Nick roll with Craig Jones on youtube the other day and compared to Jones his technique still looks like a very athletic blue belt, but I respect him very much since he is beating alot of high level black belts and I'm sure he'd kick my ass.

Nah black belt. He's so fundamentally good with the explosiveness it's a nightmare. Nicky just knows how to play the game but now he's starting to sub people instead of wrestle fking in the older days.

dang, what a match. If Dan rolled the body triangle locking point to the ground and stepped on the foot, he might have escaped the body triangle and maybe he could have escaped before the clock went out.

I am no expert in Bjj but looking at dan's size, he should be trying to be on top and put pressure instead of pulling guard. Just my thought. Great win for Nicky!
