Honestly this is pretty silly. Within the first 2 minutes the match got stopped at least six times because they kept going out of bounds. In freestyle wrestling, you force the wrestlers to stay inbound by having push out points, but here there's no motivation to actually circle and try to stay inbounds. It's pretty unwatchable. BJJ really needs to update rulesets to be more spectator friendly.

It's the closest thing to a real fight with out striking. It's a legit strategy in bjj and a real fight. If you go out off bounds on purpose you get fouled tho.

Nicky rod was a purple belt here, he's been doing BJJ for the quarter of time Luke has and Luke has been wrestling a lot longer. He started training BJJ less than 2 yrs before this lol Not much can't be done when a guy just wants to disengage and stall either....I get UFC fans don't understand grappling, but what we saw was Rockhold basically getting tech'd. This is why a lot of MMA guys, look at the UFC, are still getting dominated by guys who started out as wrestlers, the reason being that most gyms are just training guys in basic wrestling a few times a week.

Luke’s the fucking man. Giving one of the best BJJ players a hard time and that’s all Rod does. Not to mention Rod’s undoubtedly on the juice. Luke’s grappling is just one facet of his arsenal.

Referee's decision without any real criteria is a horrible way to end any contest. Its possibly the worst part of BJJ

@@mattbenyon5356 yes, and those rules don't have any criteria for how the referee is supposed to decide the bout if it is tied at the end of regulation. I prefer something more decisive. I come from a wrestling background, we have a "sudden death" where we compete until someone scores. Of course, wrestling also has stalling calls that are applied much more vigorously than BJJ. I have seen some BJJ rule-sets where they have an equivalent period at the end of regulation. If tied, each person gets to start in back control, and go for a submission/escape. Then the person with the fastest sub (if both sub) or fastest escape (if both escape) is the winner. I love BJJ, but its one of the most annoying things about it: the number of contests that don't have a real winner, even though the referee declares one.
