07:35 yes, I think a lot of people felt the same. I believe it's intentional and fits the mood of the album and how she was feeling when she wrote all this. it's quite moody and depressing, and also with its minimalism, it allows us to really hone in on the point of it all. I'm not looking for hits in this album, and because of that, I really feel I've gotten to know this artist so much more intimately. it's so raw and real. in one of her songs, I presume about Joe, she says 'what a bland goodbye', and in a way some people could look at this album like it's bland. but I think that's what makes it amazing. she's done so many bangers, this is very much stripped back and allows us to really appreciate HER and her vocals.

I found your take on this super interesting, especially how you talked about the staccato beat. Because I have a background in film and when I heard this song it gave me such strong visuals. It gave me Old Hollywood and driving down a sun baked boulevard, not really living the dream. I think that that type of beat can give the vibe of depression, but in a glitzy way. I actually couldn't sleep after hearing this song, but it gave me such strong visuals. Her music does that a lot for me.

I like it. It has this "blue balls" syndrome we see on many Jack songs (ie you expect a big climax that never comes) but as a dreamy laid back opener it does its job pretty well. You got to take it as it is. It's not groundbreaking but it's pretty good. I think the car line is very cute.

Interesting. Yeah, the first listen was meh, but it's grown on me a lot. Gotta learn how to appreciate things for what they are, indeed.

I agree about the first song leaving you wanting more. But I like it - makes me more inclined to listen to the album in order, as a whole piece of work rather than just picking and choosing or listening in a different order which is so easy now that most of us stream music rather than being more locked in by the recording/distributing medium in the past.

EXACTLY! I am new to her music and have only watched lyric videos to Midnights so far. Interestingly original Midnights was 13 tracks that she said on SiriusXM was 13 midnights. The first track of TTPD is Fortnight...the 14th day. Mastermind is the last track on original Midnights, while Dear Reader is the final on Midnights 3am. I think all her albums should be listened to in the order she lists them. Just like the 5th track symbolism.

The contrast between the heart wrenching, almost sceary, lyrics with the slow beat and armony of the voices makes it fantastic! and then... the video. It killed me. Opposite to what she played with in I Can Do It With A Broken Heart. Like.

I actually think I know what the “your wife waters flowers” line means. The subject’s long term girlfriend (I won’t say his name) was also a musical artist and I think the metaphorical flowers means that she was creating beautiful things and the jealousy was eating away. Not at her art necessarily but having the subject’s time and attention. None of them were actually husband and wife but might as well have been for intents and purposes and all that.
