Agreed!!!! Funny as hell but also one highly skilled jack-of-all things automotive……. old skool style! Especially refreshing in this day of “plug in the computer and shoot me in the right direction” mechanics. I realize it has to be that way with the newer stuff, but there is no-one, and I mean no-one that I would rather be taking a sketchy rig for a long ride with than Derek!!! Keep up the great content Derek!!!
My dad bought a brand new 1964 Buick LeSabre from Stewart Buick in Winston Salem NC. It was white with almost the same interior colors except the seats were vinyl and it was a 2 door. When the salesman brought it out, he parked it in an alley behind the dealership and left the motor running. Us kids piled into it to check it out. My brother with Downs Syndrome was 4 years old. He was so sweet. He grabbed the gear lever, pulled it into drive, and we plowed right into a telephone pole which put a nice dent in the front bumper. We had only travelled 5 feet but it dinged the chrome anyway. My dad being the generous soul that he was didn't even suggest to the salesman to put a new bumper on it. Dad's philosophy was when you get a new car, you might as well get a Tonya Harding out and ding it right away. That way you won't be dreading the time YOU ding it so bad. He was also a sweet man. I miss them both. By the way, we also had a 1956 Buick Special. The exterior was blue, white, and black. I love your channel. It brings back so many memories. I'm a fair bit of a mechanic myself being a fellette if I do say so myself. Keep them coming. I'll be a fan until I join my dad and my brother.

The thing about Buick being the poor man's Cadillac reminded me of a story a friend of my father's told me when I was a kid in the '80s. Dad's friend grew up in a mostly blue-collar Polish-American community in Massachusetts. He used to say that it was the custom back in his old neighborhood for a man to drive secondhand Chevrolets for his entire working life, and when he retired, the first thing he would do is buy himself a brand new Buick. The tradition was so common that all the men of his father's generation had to say about any mutual acquaintance was "You hear about George? He finally got his Buick," and everybody knew exactly what that meant.

No better place to get some good education and some wholesome humor. A feller really likes this old 4 door and as rare as this is, I hope the next guy keeps her as original as possible. Some people see no worth in a 4 door but if it's a classic, it's a keeper in my book. I had a feller tell me once long ago that my old classic 4 door was good for nothing but parts. The feller was lucky I'm not violent because I'd a been tempted to lay a few of his body parts out on the ground.

When it comes to fixing the radio, the first thing you wanna blame in the audio world (especially when it's old) are the electrolytic capacitors. They are used in audio amplifiers, they have approx. life of 20-35 years, after that they just lose their properties and radio no worky. I had equipment that was 35 years old and it was literally half dead.
You did an amazing job on this car in such a short period of time. Thank you for all your dedication, this is the best channel of KZread.
