Forged VQ37VHR build part 20, camshafts and valve components

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This will be the first built VQ37VHR that i'll document. I'll toss in every bit of information so that maybe more people will feel a bit less intimidated by building these themselves. This will be released in multiple parts since there's a lot to cover, so please sub to stick around to see the rest! Time for another VQ owner to go fast!
Part 20, i'll assemble the cam followers, camshafts, and cam towers and show a trick I use to "pre clock" the cams to a neutral position before securing the cam towers. Hopefully some of you get some ideas from this vid. Comment with suggestions! Thanks!

Got a quick question for you. Are you running these JUN 288 cams with a stock valvetrain? And are the exhaust valve followers DLC coated or not?

I'm running stock valvetrain all together, cams included. And yes, apparrently all VQ followers are DLC coated. That's DE, HR, and VHR.

When your just removing the rear timing cover and you got cyl 1 at TDC and the 5th cylinder exhaust cam is in the position like in the video 11:57, and it happens to jump when removing the cam sprockets. Will that cause a bent valve ?

You won't bend valves when removing components. If you tried to start it, absolutely.

For this one, it's around 4k for disassembly and reassembly plus parts, machine work, and whatever shipping charges you incurr. Quite a bit cheaper than the big companies. The big discount is primarily because it's just me and no employees.

Hey i noticed when you did bank one the rear of the cam was sitting up a little high mine is also and I'm concerned about bending or scaring something. I'll even be willing to PayPal you some money if you can help me lol

It's sitting up high because the camshaft lobes are in a position to compress the valves. As long as you are in the correct degree range with the pistons and camshaft positions you're fine.

That's because #1 cylinder at TDC will have one of the camshaft lobes at its highest peak. You just have to be patient with it and pay close attention to what you're doing.

@@doggystyledave make sure you get those VVEL sensors back how they were as close as possible. You will have to adjust through VVEL relearn procedure in the manual. It's pretty simple.

@@garagefanatic7830 Thanks- They seem to have lined up perfectly. I think this is because I took the engine apart at TDC. They were right at about that 1.585 inches. I have the PDF manuals. I will look for that Thank you. I imagine I have to get Another tune as well.

  • @garagefanatic7830

@@doggystyledave that makes complete sense then since you disassembled at TDC! You shouldn't need a retune for an engine if compression, intake/exhause runners, cams, and other items are the same as before. Basically, changing VE(volumetric efficiency) is what requires recalibration.
