Im going through this exact job on my own vehicle, and have had reservations about how to set the timing properly. Not anymore!!!!!! My mind is now set at ease. Wrong! He never even mentions all the O rings that go with this system and they must be replaced behind the second cover assembly. This video is literally only a fraction of the complete job each of these engines will require. Guaranteed facts!

    Without these O rings you will still have lower oil pressure internally. I've built many of these engines. Every single time the rest of these steps was missed, the engines suffer catastrophic failures. Every single time!!

    Very very good explanation. I do a ton of these at my shop per referrals from one VQ enthusiast to another in the DFW area. Couple of tips I’d add for some of the less experienced DIY’ers: a pair of chain vice grips can be used to hold the cam gears (phasers/actuators) instead of pulling the VCs to get a wrench on the cams to keep them still. Spray PB blaster or WD-40 on the dowels before removing the timing cover. They’re usually full of crap/oil/rust and the penetrant will break they junk up and make getting the cover off much easier. Also I like to give them a few light taps with a punch/hammer to break the junk up a little bit. Run a few of your front facing timing cover bolts in before you start the bottom cover bolts that go in from the oil pan entrance. You want that pan nice and flush before you start those bolts or the bolt holes won’t be properly lined up and you’ll cross thread them. You don’t want to cross thread those bolts! 10/10 on the video. Couldn’t have explained it any better myself and like I said, probably done this job 25 times in the last 12 months 😪

  • @Pete_Tech_

    A completely failed phaser can prevent it from starting and/or can make it run extremely rough. Intake phasers occasionally fail on the VHRs causing a no start but will usually set a timing code as well.

  • @Pete_Tech_

    @Pete_Tech_

    4 ай бұрын

    Typically spinning backwards won’t cause it to jump time assuming the tensioner is healthy and the chain isn’t stretched. Now if it was definitely off by a tooth, it’s possible your chain was severely stretched. The new OEM chains have timing mark colored links, they need to be set appropriately. That’s in the video 👍🏻

    It is not threaded. The radiator cap housing is secured by 10mm bolts and it’s held together onto the valley pipe via O-ring seals. It comes apart with a little bit of a fight usually. Make sure to inspect and/or replace the o-rings on the valley pipe. Install with a synthetic lube.

    @@johnmarco5017 so do the colored links on the chain matter(after turning engine/setting back in timing)? because i dont see how it would all of a sudden have more or less links in between, when we are just turning engine, not adding or removing chain links?

    @@markus360sI thankfully found someone on the side who did my oil gallery gaskets for me for $700 but shops usually charge $2,000-3000 in labor alone. I'm at 161k and my oil gallery was already falling out so get yours done asap.

    It will be the same timing system. Nissan doesn’t have any new tricks when it comes to timing. Even the V8 is nearly identical to this.

    @@Pete_Tech_ Well it doesn’t have timing MARKS on the BACK COVER neither it has any marks do you could align with VVT circles ,,,so you pretty much have to GUESS like 10am and 2pm also to be safe gotta remove cylinder 1 spark plug to be sure it’s all the way up so yes it’s definitely confusing especially if doing it first time as I am right now today 2/21/24 lol Another problem is NOWHERE TO FIND PARTS even dealer has to order and when I go to Nissan dealer they don’t know what’s Infiniti then I have to explain 2020 Infiniti QX60 is same as 2019 Pathfinder with VQ35DD engine ,,, but they still stare like deer into light

    Another misleading video that’s gonna cause y’all to take the car to the STEALERSHIP, he didnt show you how to properly make sure the engine is a tdc on the COMPRESSION STROKE! before removing anything. These people love to make short videos with the job half done skipping extremely crucial steps, also he’s doing this on a motors that you haven’t seen start after the job. Get a repair manual guys

    @@Pete_Tech_ Sure Pete, you didn’t verify the exhaust timing marks or intake timing marks with the respective colored links on both chains before removing, didn’t address the fact that the camshafts are spring loaded and will move when the secondary tensioners are relieved, also note guys there is no moving the crank or cams separately in timing, it’s an interference motor. The timing marks need to perfectly match before removal, then obviously before installation. You see just a little after 18:00 he shows you the colored links in the correct position with the mating marks matched? He didn’t do that before removing any of the timing parts in the beginning of the video. That’s were everyone watching this will mess the motor up. He should have did verified like he showed in 18:00 that the mating marks were correct BEFORE removing anything. Pay attention at 16:20 he skips MAJOR steps and goes to pulling the secondary’s off, NONONONOOO you have to make sure ALL. The mating marks are line up before removing anything!! There’s more that the three he showed in the beginning! You see at 16:50 the exhaust cam on bank one moved when he took the secondary off?? Y’all are gonna fak it up following the short hand videos. I told you. This dudes a faking tool. Sorry guys😢

    Without removing the entire cover assembly and replacing the o-rings on the back side of the cover and the front cam bearing covers you're literally wasting your damn time even doing this much work. Not hating on your abilities, yet def hating on the half ass incomplete education of what really needs to be done to ensure proper oiling of this engine design. Good luck...

    In my experience, (which may actually be far less than yours), I have not only never seen a failure with those, I’ve never even heard of it being a failure point. There is far more you can do to this engine in terms of replacement/ reseal. If it doesn’t fail, seems that is more of a waste of time.
