Ford Falcon front brake rotor and pad replacement

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I replaced the front brake discs and brake pads on this 2006 BF Ford Fairmont/Falcon. This is a step by step guide in how I go about doing a full brake change and greasing up the sliding pins. As you will see all you need are some basic tools like a socket set, spanners, a G clamp and a torque wrench if you have one handy. Just be careful, brakes are the only thing that you have to stop your car so please be careful and if you're not sure speak with a qualified mechanic.

After doing my first oil change and oil filter and knowing absolute fk all about cars I started looking into more ways to fix and help my car at home and not waste hundreds of dollars through a mechanic, this was next level for me a lot of swear words were said in the garage and lots of replaying your video took me a whole day just to do my 2 fronts 😂😂 seems very simple but once you start taking everything apart it gets nerve wracking 🤣 cheers for the video bra !

@@modaufygarageThanks for the clear video. I need to do this on my car, and you make it look easy. Just my 10 cents worth, at 10:00 when you torque the bolts, if there is enough room, don't use the socket extension, as it can skew the reading a bit.

Great video. Good camera positions, and no garage sound echo (very common in indoor videos, and as important as missing subtitles for hearing impaired). I noticed you'd checked new rotor size after you'd used the new cardboard boxes as a workbench. (Dirty in case need to return). Should the type of grease on sliders be mentioned? I just used " rubber grease", and noticed another prior viewer comment about silicon, to keep petroleum based products away from brake actuators. I found once using a single G-Clamp, with brake shoe under it to push piston back, can cause grief. I sadly used a new shoe on an EB, and the seized piston, and my enthusiasm, cracked and broke the new shoe material. Can't buy a one-wheel set. A new set of Bendix in Lismore for an EF are $90. I'll watch your others.

The only bolts I have torqued down on the brakes are the brackets. If you are referring to the bolts in the sliding pins, I have never torqued these bolts down. I just tighten them by feel. I dare say the torque specs on them would be quite low.

BA / BF brakes are not the best I’ve got a BA Fairlane and every time I do the brakes I pinch off the brake hose push the piston back to get the fluid out of the caliper via the nipple and it’s always black as the ace of spades so every two years or so I take the calipers right off and do a caliper kit overhaul…. I also upgrade the brake fluid to DOT 5.1 i put new discs and pads every time with special grease on the slide pins etc….. There’s also an aftermarket upgraded slide pin kit to help with the brake shutter I have put that on as well as a one off cost get yourself a tube of Bendix blue its the only way to go its ceramic grease if you do the above every couple of years you’ll be right…….. My personal view is they are not the best design…… and they have trouble getting rid of heat and the brake fluid in the caliper basically gets cooked…… Even when I do an oil change I sometimes i pinch the hose off and get the fluid out of there and it’s always pitch black Simply pushing the piston back in shoves all that dirty fluid back up the line to the master cylinder and you don’t want to do that But beware…… Crimping rubber brake lines can be an issue because they are laminated and have a structure and they can delaminate internally But it will still look okay on the outside and then you’ve got problems with the pedal and the brakes pulling to one side and it’s the internally damaged brake hose due to being crimped….. Another pro tip is some of those fords that came off the line had a reputation for the brakes “holding on” slightly when you drive off (it’s a production issue connected to the brake booster assembly) and then you overheat them which warps the discs causing pedal pulsation if you’re finding you getting that Once you’ve finished replacing everything - just take the master cylinder and brake booster off the firewall there’s a rod poking through the firewall that can be adjusted just turn the rod in a few turns by hand to give it some clearance between the end of the rod and the brake pedal actuator - there should have been some clearance applied at the factory and sometimes there wasn’t….. and you’ll find nine times out of 10 that will fix the problem there……!!! - it’s quite straightforward and any DIYer could do it Good luck..!!

Thanks for the tips. The brakes on this BF have not been that bad. Not long after the pad and disc change we bleed the entire brake system. However I have a feeling that the left hand front caliper might need an overhaul. Thanks for watching!

@@modaufygarage No worries if you’re going to do the front calipers the only other tip I would have is for the sake of five bucks each You want to change the brake bleed nipples to stainless steel ones because the steel ones get a bit rusty and they don’t seem to be as strong and they always seem to round off or even worse snap…. Given the age of these cars I would probably also be tempted to change the brake hoses because they can delaminate internally and it restricts fluid flow in one direction……. and you get pulling to one side….. If you happen to have the Bakelite caliper pistons you want to get rid of those as well because they weep brake fluid and they often crack and when you take them out they come apart in pieces on the floor go on eBay and buy a steel set from PBR when you get the caliper kits……. I had to do that on my rears….. Good luck…!
