    Have this problem with my 2016 5.0 F150. It wouldn't start, or it would idle rough and die. Took it to ford who claimed my trans was completely dead - gears were sheared as per the advisor. Quoted me $8k with parts, taxes and labor for a new one. Or, said I can trade it on a new one, but I wouldn't get much for mine due to a failed transmission and high mileage. Didn't belive the guy for a second. Took it to the private shop I goto usually and this was what the problem he said. Getting fixed rn. I'd like to try escalate the situation with ford who tried to screw me over and have me pay 8k!

    Liked and subscribed. Again thanks man great video. Saved a ton of time and money doing this myself plus I learned something and felt good knowing I took my time and did it right. Apparently previous owner put royal purple Max ATF in this trans, didn't have an issue with it but I'm doing the motorcraft Mercon LV. Reason for lead frame replacement was that every once in a while it would go into limp mode and throw a wrench light. I'm whipple charged so my throttle body is different than stock but I cleaned it anyway. When it still threw wrench light and went into limp mode I decided the lead frame was probably the culprit. We'll see. Regardless the leas frame in these trucks is a common issue. I replaced it with the new version which looked the same except for different part number and that foam seal at the solenoids. Do you recommend flushing out the rest of that royal purple? Any issue with a small amount of it mixing with the motorcraft?

  • @autohelp6504

    @autohelp6504

    Жыл бұрын

    you should be fine not flushing out the rest of the royal purple. it is almost impossible with these transmissions anyways. the thermal expansion valve makes it difficult to get everything out of the system.

    Great video. So much better than another one I watched previously. Clear, concise, and you did not skip anything ...except you did not mention the vehicle speed sensors. Do they come with the lead frame (since they are installed in it), or do you have to provide them? Also, you could include torque values for lead frame, valve body, and pan (not sure if this is correct, but elsewhere I have seen them as: 53 in-lbs, 71 in-lbs, and 97 in-lbs, respectively). Again, thanks!

    My Gen 2 6R80 with only 1600 miles on it after a rebuild, flared 300rpm from a 5-6 gear shift. Now, when trying to move forward, it seems like 90% of the line pressure isn't allowing full engagement in D, and the RPM just climbs with very little forward movement. Reverse engages perfectly fine. The car was driving perfect for the first 7 minutes, and then this came out of nowhere. I believe its a solenoid/valve body issue. No codes came up. I am swapping the valve body, bridge and tube seals today.

    Sure sounds like a lead frame to me. When was the last time your pan was off? You may have a bunch of fine metal clutch clutch material built up around the plugs and solenoids causing it to short out. I would drop the pan and if that is the case give it a good cleaning with brake cleaner and compressed air. Fill it back up with fluid and a new filter and see what happens.

    Auto Help I appreciate the reply, I called Ford and there’s an extended field service action, Ford extended the coverage on the lead frame for 10 years or 150,000 miles. They told me that my truck qualifies, however since I deleted the code they can’t replace the lead frame until it happens again and I have to get it towed with the code or wrench on the panel, not sure if they’re reimbursing owners for repairs already done but it’s worth looking jnto it, thanks again I’ll keep you posted if mine ever gets done, well when it does hopefully I’m only at 98k miles currently. www.cnbc.com/2019/02/13/ford-issues-3-recalls-covering-nearly-1point5-million-vehicles.html

    What was main reason for you to change the bridge? Just curious, I currently have a spermatic wrench and now a check light. Trucks shifting weird 5-6. Code is reading a po741 for a torque converter issue. This all coming after having the flash recall done a couple months back.

    The main reason I changed it I would put the truck into drive and it just would not go anywhere sometimes. I could shut the truck off and restart it and sometimes it would move. I was getting the wrench in the display. If I were you I would drop the pan and clean everything really really good with compressed air and brake cleaner. make sure you even clean electrical connections because the fine shavings build up around those connections causing them to slightly short out causing the issues you are describing. Also new fluid will do wonders Im sure your fluid has some miles and is losing viscosity. Make sure you clean the magnets in the pan as well. Let me know if this helps.

    Auto Help thanks for the reply, I just paid to have the lead frame replaced by the dealer. New fluid and screen. Took the truck last night and it’s still dropping out of gear and shifting like crap and the dealer called me and said that’s normal because of the learning curve after they flashed it to update the new software. I said that’s not the case. After you replaced the lead frame was yours doing this for a while and stopped?

    @@jbrady5979 no, mine was fine right away. Although I did not have any reprogramming like you did. I would have that dealer recheck your fluid level after driving it some.
