I have a Mind Games original! I don't restrict my collecting to originals, but equally there are some guys who buy the reissues, like the Beatles box sets, and then never play them! It takes all sorts to make a vinyl community!

I'm happy that the mild controversies that your manifesto stirred up brought the video to my KZread algorithm's attention. It was a joy to watch. Also, the manifesto was beautifully formatted. I enjoy time traveling with my records, too. Original pressings will take you to places that reissues and compilations can't reach. As someone who doesn't stream outside of KZread, I'm happy to listen to some reissues, but I will never love them. They will always feel somewhat cold and impersonal. Thanks, Jacob

Stopped watching this and went back to read those negative comments and I could NOT AGREE LESS (with them 😂) it’s literally your collection lol and everyone can have any rules or limitations they put on these things. I’m not buying any regularly available records atm and only buying limited release because I need to save money. It’s crazy you got comments that made you feel you had to explain and expand more on why you set those rules, tho I did enjoy learning more about the why! Great couple of videos, keep on spinning man! 😊🙏

I have a small ezine (Born Outta Time) and I enjoy finding a good blog to keep me inspired and learn about new bands as well. Looking forward to seeing more from your collection. You always have to remember....before vinyl made a huge comeback and before there was youtube there were guys with no friends who sat in their basement all day eating Mac N Cheese and playing records. Now that the internet has allowed them to "come out of the basement" and interact with people....and they have NO IDEA HOW!!! The great thing about this musical world is that you are NOT WRONG for how you collect, what you listen to, or how you choose to do it. My collecting habits are totally different than yours, but I can understand you are SHARING yourself with us, not preaching to us. Sorry for the crap you got from some!

I kind of have a similar standard for re-issues. I have been slowly eliminating most re-issues. But in some cases I don't mind having a early re-issue of a rare record. I prefer not to have a modern re-issue but again with some exceptions. But that's just what works for me. Thank you for sharing your style of collecting. We all collect differently and that's a beautiful thing. Love the t-shirt. Cheers. Shawn

I get the idea that you (and we) listen to music via different formats, but what is so important about having an original? Would that be an original in your country? Or an original from the artist's home country? Does it have to be a genuine first pressing? Apologies if I missed your explanation (I didn't see your original video, just this second edition), but it seems like you're advocating collecting museum pieces.

Hi! I'm not advocating anything, I'm just sharing how I collect. I thought I explained quite well in the video why I only buy originals. I'm not that picky with county pressings, but generally I prefer a UK pressing for a UK band and so on, but it's not a must. And early second pressings are sometimes ok for me. Thanks for watching and commenting, take care!

You really did get quite a bunch of fury on your manifesto! Well, I've started to get some too. As you know, you can account for others tastes in what they do. Just yours. I really like having a set of rules specifically in that it controls your spending and keeps you on focus. Which can be a problem for me. Getting to much, and buying in too many ways means less enjoyment overall A more enjoyment to the records and music you love the most.

  • @vinylstockholm

Yes, I believe that if your collection gets too big, you kinda loose contact with it. I've said it before, (for me) a healthy record collection is like a breathing organism, record in, records out. And for every breath it gets better and more groovy. Also, it keeps your spending from running wild. Selling and trading is the way forward for me. Good luck with your reissue sale. Cheers!

I got two of "ultimate holy grails" lasr year. Those were the top of pyramid of my collecting purposes. After I have been feeling little empty. Why I am collecting? I wish to be music lover again enjoying only music, not OG pressing... Anyway, what is your favorite record stores in Stockholm?

It is your collection so do what you want. I will stay subscribed even though I disagree with you on Mind Games. I don’t want the deluxe Mind Games. I purged my original Mind Games because I don’t think it is very good. Your rule is only originals. My rule is I only want records that I like.

Thanks Richie! You know, your rule is mine too, I have only records I like etc. I love John Lennon and want to love Mind Games more than I do, but it's a bit uneven I have to admit. Some songs are great though, like Mind Games, Out of the Blue, Freda People etc. So I'll keep it for now. Happy midsummer!

Hey man just watched your last video. It’s an interesting subject. I’m not actually suprised you got a few thumbs down &. Negative comments...because well that’s how the internet works...I use to rack up thumbs down on a regular basis! 😊..still get a few. I’m a big Compilatins fan. Buzzcocks ‘Singles Going Steady’ that actually may be my favourite ever album. I’m not in total agreement with your ‘First Pressings’ rule...I’m a Big Star fan..About 30 years ago I bought the Edsel pressings from 86?..they’re pretty decent. The idea of tracking down...and then being able to afford first Big Star pressings....... I’ll meet you half way, modern repressing (ie pressed in the last 10 years) often disappoint. I’ll leave you with my own pice of wisdom....it’s when they stop hating you that you need to be worried 😂 Anger is an energy. Go forth! ..again it was a thought provoking video.

What everyone is talking about is usuallly what I avoid. I have an original Mind Games and certainly don't need any new rendition of it. How, what or why people collect or don't should be nobody's business but their own. I have lots of records nobody but me would want. I like them and that's all that matters. People who put up hateful comments need to get a life!

I think you're okay. It may have felt like you were passing judgment on other collectors even though you weren't. In addition a sizable part of the VC is audiophiles and that market is largely fueled by reissues. Maybe a few audiophiles might be defensive about OG collectors always going on about the superiority of originals. Who knows? My only slight disagreement with your manifesto related to compilations. Throughout the Seventies several music labels would release these compilations of artists on that label. At the time it was an excellent way of introducing listeners to performers they wouldn't have heard otherwise. I actually find these fun but like I said this is a very minor point. Now I feel like I've gone on too long. Have a good one. Happy collecting.

I should have commented on your previous vid but will do it here. I've no problem with your manifesto, it's your rules. I don't follow all of them but a few are similar to mine. I absolutely buy OGs and don't buy many reissues, one or two a year. To me there are enough OG records out there that I find in the real world that I blow my budget on which means I don't have to consider reissues. I love one trackers (library, OSTs, funky easy listening) but that's the only way to own those tracks. Others have said it here but the VC isn't really made up of Acid Archive/Galactic Ramble folk. They want the latest audiophile pressing or own 4 copies of a 70s AOR etc LP and know the LP inside out. Many would flick past a rare private press in a dollar bin. Not being disrespectful to those collectors, that's just the reality. I bought Acid Archives when the 1st edition came out and only concentrated on buying the cheap recommendations in the back of the book as that was where I was as a collector at that time. Most of us change as collectors over the years. Back in the 90s a VG record was fine but for the last 15 years or so it has to be EX/NM. BTW I noticed Mary-Ann Paterson pop up on your blog. Had the chance to buy an OG of that recently but was not convinced at all, even though the urge to own it was still there due to rarity. I passed it on to a friend instead. Cheers Nige

Hi Nigel. I 100% agree, of course you change as a collector over the years. Like pressings, condition and the type of music you look for. It would be strange to do the same thing over and over, I want to explore and find new (old) music. VC is new to me, so we'll see what happens. I still have the Mary-Anne "Me" LP. Got it a long time ago from Richard Morton Jack actually. It's one of those records that I might sell at some point, there are a few great songs, but I could use it in a trade to get something better. Many thanks for sharing your thoughts. Cheers! /Jonas.
