    I would just like to say this filter is awesome. It is super quiet, even the restarts you barely notice. Never had it leak once. If you set it up right, this systme is awesome. I have cleaned it once in 2 months, and it was pain free. The hardest part was finding a 1" clear vinyl tube (ordered it online). The only down side to this filter is that when you clean it, you are essentially killing all your good bacteria because you are removing all the water.

    @helicrashpro if you don't like canister filters it means you don't know how to use them properly. the right set up with the right canister filters is the best thing EVER for the common aquarist.

    there is no too much filtration, just what is needed and what is not necessary and that depends on both the volume of your tank and what fish you are planning on keeping

    @Scuurge i don't think it's overkill at all, a 75 gallon with this flow rate is cycling at about 12 times and hour turnover. i think that's perfect for fish who like water movement, not too much not too little. and thanx for the post, i'm thinking about getting one for my 75 =)

    Also, if anyone was wondeirng I am running it on a 75 gallon. Works great, maybe some overkill on my part but I like a good current for my cichlids.

    I have to watch this every time I clean my filter because I can’t remember what order to open the valves when I hook them back up.

    For bacteria to remain active in my 125g. I use a Marineland Penguin with the Bio wheel. Also when doing maintenance on the unit place all filter media in pail or pails with tank water and squeeze in there.The water will turn dirty but that's OK because your rinsing in tank water dirty or not the bacteria remain alive.

  • @Scuurge
    @Scuurge13 жыл бұрын

    So for the bacteria problem I would suggest running a small bio wheel in unison.

    In this vid, they show you how to clean the filter etc, but i was wondering do you still change the water in the tank ? It maybe a stupid question, but i was just wondering.

    I use for my 250 gallon tank one Eheim 1200XL and one 1200XLT that pump together quit 900 gph. Each of them take 25 Watts so together 50 Watts with a 500Watt inide heater. The Fluval FX5 allone pump 600 gph with 48 Watts so i got for the same amout of power use more GPH that i even can adjustable in flow. Maybe my setup is more expensive but after some years of use it will be worthwhile because more gph of on the same amout of power use and my canister filters are on wheels :D

    I'd like to know what to do since my 300 gallon acrylic tank has a larger rim for bracing around the edge. Can't mount it like that and the hose I had to get to has a larger outer diameter so it doesnt even fit in the brackets provided

    Hi Drew, as you have an acrylic set up you should be able to notch out the euro bracing to a suitable depth to allow the fittings to clear.

    Canister filters = pain in the ass in general. This one is no exception. If you clean it with tap water you will kill the beneficial bacteria which is a BAD thing. Look into a wet dry trickle filter or bio-tower and a sump. They are MUCH more efficient and MUCH easier to maintenance. You want a bio-tower with a filter pad on the top (very easy to clean and change) and a sump with a return pump. You can put your heater in the sump which is nice, but sumps require an overflow (easy to build).

    For the cost? Those pumps should be 5x more powerful and up. At least make a quality filter a hobbyist can hook his own pump to. Everything is toy like...when you invested thousands for tank and fish.

    Stonecat to you it's all about the gallons per hour, funny part of it is, it is the strongest canister or HOB on the planet. The reason why it's not over 600 gallons per hour is because it holds so much media also so much it's extremely durable, and has tons of bells and whistles and it holds more media than any canister I know . And it is very powerful you must not have one and if you can get it on sale that's the way to go. I wouldn't have bought two of them if I didn't think they were awesome. 249.99 OTD Petco and 229.99 at Petsmart MGRs special. It is 900 gph with no media. Have a great day.
