#FloorJansen #Fire
In this #WomanWednesday episode of #TheDailyDoug, we're listening to the brand new debut single by Floor Jansen, Fire. She released this song on March 25. I found her singing top notch as always, and the composition mixes intimate and powerful sounds masterfully. I hope you enjoy!

There is a clip of Floor on Dutch TV and they gave her a phone book to sing ..
They asked Floor: "Can you sing the phonebook with intimate emotions?" Floor's reply was: "Hold my wine: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dYCJ1JN9fNqrgco.html

BUMP , She wrote Fire herself.
The couple of live performances of this song she did were mindblowing as you can expect from Floor. She showed it to Tuomas and he liked it. She said Nightwish always will come first, but she has the intention to perform her solo stuff whenever time allows.
Floor's acoustic versions of Nightwish songs "Nemo" and "How's the Heart", on Planet Rock, accompanied on guitar and harmonies by Troy Donockley, are wonderful. There are a lot of reactions to these so I'm assuming they don't get blocked.
Plenty of Floor solo covers , this is just the first she has written and performed solo. Shallow, for example, removes ownership from Lady Gaga. This is not even her best performance - she recently did one live on a TV show that was even better, if that's possible. She also sang the phonebook - priceless!
I like her vocals they sound really cool. Especially the high notes. I think I might search her up on KZread or Spotify.

She is a one of a kind of singer. She can whisper, growl, do opera, belt, cry and often all in the same song. Well worth checking her out, the After Forever, Revamp, Nightwish, Aryon, Beste Zangers stuff covers so many genres in so many languages. There's even a video of her singing the Dutch phonebook because of the saying 'She could sing the phonebook and it would be great' And it was :)

She has a great YT channel, check it out, you won't be disappointed. You can find songs of her solo show in Amsterdam last september, are songs from her bands Nightwish, After Forever, ReVamp and Northward in a more intimate and rocky set-up, as well as her songs for the Dutch TV show Beste Zangers and some cover. She posted also covers done at home during the pandemic, are all great, as well as other contents about her private life, interviews she did with other musicians, and an absolutely hilarious fan Friday. A lot of contents to allow us know her a little bit better, not only as a musicians but as a really beautiful human being as well. And then obviously there is Nightwish, if you are a little bit into metal you'll love them.

Most similar songby her is Euphoria
Thank you sir, as a huge Floor fan, I just wish the world could hear her voice. Her voice is pure magic for me and many others, and I/we appreciate you giving a listen.
Doug, I don't know if anyone made you aware, but there are video's on YT from Floor on a Dutch tele show called "Beste Zangers". She does Phantom of the Opera with Henk Poort, This a Must, absolutly fantastic.
I love this song and was online for the premier with Floor when it was released, this song just takes on more and more meanings beautifully
Like you I only discovered Nightwish a little over 18 months ago. I have been an Annie Haslam - Renaissance fan for decades. Nightwish is a modern version of Renaissance. After the third Nightwish song I heard, I noticed her inflection in the lyrics. Even on repeats of lyrics in a chorus she will change up her vocals slightly so it is never sang exactly the same way throughout the song. She does to the song vocally what she does on stage, constantly moving and gesturing interacting with the listener/audience.
Amazing first solo track- lovely powerful voice! I need to work with a singer like her. Beautiful, thank you for sharing with us
I absolutely loved your analysis of the lyrical content! Best yet!
We ALL just love her voice !!!
Beautiful voice, can't wait to hear the whole album.
Beautiful, Doug. New to me. Her voice made me think of Kate Bush but perhaps more courant. What a full sound from the band. Lordy! Thanks again, Maestro!
What a voice... what a voice... what a finely tuned voice... with soul. She loves to sing so much that singing is born in her with the simplicity of joy. What a beautiful voice.
Yep we all love her voice Thankyou Doug that was a great analysis .
Yes, a show tune. Really liked all of it. Thank you Floor and Doug too.
Floor is amazing, her voice is magnific!!
Floors voice is most beautiful instrument ever.
Floor wrote this in 30 minutes. Floor is Fire. The video was filmed in Finland and so is the 2nd one. It's about the last 2years. Her Wolf is out now. Last week Floor was sick with the stomach flu in the first 2concerts in Finland with Nightwish
Brilliant video Doug .... hope Floor releases a full album.

Excellent analysis Doug 👏🏻🔥
'Intimate'. Perfect word. There's a real nice live performance of this in a small club. It's even more intimate. Thanks as always for the great analysis.
Great reaction & analysis thanks!
Greetings from Argentina!! , Allways is a pleasure hear& see your vids!
The High Queen of Metal Music... And honestly any other music genre, she never stop to surprise me.
She wrote Fire herself. Piano is from Joost van den Broek, Her loyal pianoist from the days of After Forever. Have you ever reacted to Ann Wilson and the band "Heart"?
I really, really enjoy how you break down a song!
Great rection!
Your analysis of the lyrics is to the point, great. Floor studied opera but also a (part time) year of musical theater after her rock academy years, i guess that fundament is still present. It's a known fact that Nightwish is best consumed live, and the same holds for Floor herself: there is a Live at HLF8 video that sounds even better then this studio recording.
I would be extremely interested in seeing your analysis of her live performance of Face Your Demon from here recent solo show on her KZread channel. To Floor gives a masterclass in vocals and interpretation of a song's lyrics.
Floor going mellow. No windmill headbanging, lol.
Floor is a gift. Enjoy your insight into the music.
Thank for the great reaction: the music is inspiring, but what makes the song is her voice. I wish for her the best of luck on her solo career, what a wonderful outlet for her creative energy outside of Nightwish. When the singer is great, there's nothing capable of holding her back.
Check out her live performance of “Energize me” from her After Forever days. And then if you really want to find out why the “Floorgasm” term was created, check the version of the same song with a string quartet. Simply AMAZING!!!!!
Beautiful analysis, Sir...Floor, The Lightbringer...we will hear her more!
I think Floor is always going to be theatrical, it is in her nature and in her musical taste I think that is part of the reason Nightwish was such a good fit. Of all the Symphonic Metal bands they are by far the most theatrical and willing to push in different directions. They don't have a lane as such and it is both the reason I love them and the reason they are criticised heavily at times. I also think Nightwish are a big reason Floor has her confidence back probably bigger and better than before, rising from the ashes of her near total musical meltdown to having the confidence to release her own solo material!
Loved Floor from her After Forever days, was astounding even then. Perhaps you should delve back into her days with After Forever.

Yeah she was always amazing. I was so sad when After Forever disbanded. A reaction from Doug to Only Everything or Being Everyone would be great. Remagine is certainly one of my my favorite albums.
It's taken me awhile to warm to this song, because it released just as I was discovering After Forever and Revamp; band which, for me, are more in-line with what I like. That said, the more I hear this song, the more I appreciate it; and, yes, Doug, you're quite right: it's a very personal song. In fact, it wasn't until I was listening to your reaction that I understood it was about life during the pandemic. Since you like the more 'intimate' aspect of her own music, I'd highly suggest reacting to Disdain by Revamp. There's a great, live version from Grasspop, 2010. This was during her more aggressive period which saw her using Death Growls/Operatic Vocals, with an - overall - more aggressive tone/style. These lyrics don't just burn things down; they scorch the earth of one's soul! A great review, Doug! J
Lovely reaction. For me this is vintage Floor. I hear similarities to her work in After Forever (Energize Me), her YT covers (Obilivion), and Beste Zangers (Euphoria). Your analysis of the lyrics is spot for me. Worth checking out for yourself her live performance from PaasPop or on HLF8 Dutch Tv Show. Other's have mentioned that she sang the phonebook on a Dutch radio show. It shows what a great person she is that she was willing to do it and of course she nailed it. kzread.info/dash/bejne/dYCJ1JN9fNqrgco.html.
Thanks for the reaction, Doug! I was just thinking...Floor needs to do a bond movie song, right?
Female vocals, more tips from me - Magenta with Christina Booth worth listening to of course. And Anneka van Giersbergen also and Marcela Bovio naturally! From Anneka listen to Travel with her solo with Haag Orchestra (You will like it Doug) and also in same reaction with her previous band The Gathering, majestic versions is on KZread - to compare with the orchestra! Enjoy!
You should listen to Floor doing a cover of Shallow - truly awesome
What about an interview with Floor? 😉
Check out her singing it live, it's even better 😁
Hi Doug. Speaking of female vocalist, have you ever listened to Trees of Eternity - Hour of the Nightingale? If not then I think you should check it out.
Floor and Eva….two of the best.
Doug; Thank you for the guidance and lessons that bring me closer to hear things you hear. One question though: Does the KZread compression rates affect the sound quality of the performance? Does it matter much if I listen with RIAA-filtered headphones? Can I ask you to give a reaction of "Glasgow 1877" and "Dual & Cloudscapes" from a classical perspective. These are not metal. And yes it is Tuomas work. By the way: Floor is a new singer in NW, only a few years, not decade :)
Ignite the world's fading spark from Lockdown slumber! Floor is FIRE !!!!
Live its even better
👐❤👐
Nice analysis. I do think it's a shame Floor's work in Northward with Jørn Viggo Lofstad is hardly ever mentioned when talking about her other projects. I know it's only one album but she gets to perform in another area of rock, going almost Joan Jett in some places and almost Joan Osborne in others. I've been listening to it quite a bit recently.
Floor reminds me of Amy Lee of Evanescence, certainly this track has the same energy as some tracks on the album Fallen.
Floor Jansen solo: beautiful composition, beautiful interpretation. For an upcoming "Woman Wednesday", why not: Bonnie Tyler in "Total Eclipse of the Heart" (lyrics and music: Jim Steinman). Thank you, Master Helvering.
For some time I've thought that except for her height her natural talents would have had her teachers pushing her towards the stage.
Nice, overtones of Kate Bush and Enya in the quieter bits, and nice transition to the louder middle and then back down again. Just my opinion
Ahhhh... you didn’t do her video. It is beautiful, & filming led by her husband. I am sorry you didn’t see it. She uses symbolism, as a burning chair, & a block I assume to be the walls burning down. You should see it, it certainly adds to her musical accomplishment.
Don't take this the wrong way, but I hope she never leaves Nightwish... this was great for what it is, but I can't see myself listening to it more than a few times. By comparison, I've listened to my Vehicle of Spirit CD probably 450 times over the past 2 years. She's an absolutely phenomenal singer, but I feel her talents are showcased much more effectively in Nightwish.
Do another one where she does it live at HLF8 ?
The A in Jansen is pronounced as the A in Darth and not as the A in Vader 😇
I'd like to see your reaction on "King Diamond - At the Graves", heavy - prog metal with concept horror stories on each album. Plus, also I'd think you'd like "Rhapsody of Fire", symphonic power metal band. Best from the early days when they were still called "Rhapsody". MI favourite is their song "Queen of the Dark Horizons".
Still think you should try Nightwish Amaranth song and listen to the difference between Floor and Annette.
Floor Jansen the best there is
Floor can sing anything and as others have mentioned she did sing the phonebook recently lol. Funny why she did it must be because everyone joked about. It's also good to know Floor is not leaving NW. She still has so much love and respect for the band. But i am worried about a possible burn out. She has a festival coming up one the first night out of three nights she will be performing with Nightwish but later that same night she'll perform again as Floor Jansen performing her own music. To me that sounds very tiring.
Check out LEAH. Melodic/Folk/Fantasy metal. She has a couple songs that feature Eric Peterson of TestAmenT - Winter Sun & Dreamland. I think you'd enjoy it. 🤘
If you like that style may be you could listen to Agnes Obel. For example ‘the aventine’ or ‘the curse’.
You should have done the live version that she did for HLF8 ...like anything Nightwish... better live 🤩
I'm not sure Floor would agree with you regarding the solo projects being a new "career' but rather just 'solo projects'. She isn't putting aside Nightwish. You and I might be in agreement though on seeing her pursue her solo projects full time. But apparently that isn't going to happen this season. Also I'm not thrilled you picked the studio recording over that live version of "Fire" - kzread.info/dash/bejne/pKWrqq-gn8KqlLQ.html
🤗🍒👍🏻
Thank you for your reaction to Floor‘s first solo song. I recommend watching the Official Music Video of the song, because it adds another level of emotion to the whole piece. kzread.info/dash/bejne/h6iulsl_d5audps.html
Yall. When you start listen some Gentle Giant, ELP And even Yes i though. Ok. He is going in the correct road. It is not the time to start on the real chalenge in musica. You can try Triumvirat from Germany, from Italy: Area, Pichio del pozzo, deus ex machina (italy). And from Ucrain a band call Fleur, critics say that its darkwave. Give a try to some complex music
We need to turn Doug on to King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.
She's incredible...hence Aryeon work...you need to listen to Astrid VanDerveen...another Arjen favorites with a solo career.
We should get doug to listen to paramore. Brick by boring brick or pressure
you should listen to fire live at (half8) talk show is even better then the studio version : - D
Doug have you ever done any reactions to Leaves Eyes or Epica?
Nice going with the #WomanWednesday Doug but I miss #WeirdWednesday though...how about bringing them back with some Nanowar Of Steel? You could start with "...And Then I Noticed That She Was A Gargoyle"
Hey Doug. I saw your deep purple video and I request a song the song is called burn live at California jam.

Thanks MMM -- I don't see too many requests for this. A real period piece: the official version, from the bands website "Deep Purple Official", has many nostalgic scenes of the 200,000 plus crowd that bring back fond memories for those of us who were around at the time. (Unfortunately for me I was away in the U.K. in university, so could not make it to this show). Doug would have loved it. Other woman and songs to react to Doug - Halestorm - I Miss the Misery (Lzzy Hale), Guano Apes - Open Your Eyes (Sandra Nasic), Blondie - Heart of Glass (Deborah Harry), Carpenters - Close to You (Karen Carpenter), Fleetwood Mac - Landslide (Stevie Nicks)
Nice reaction - can't understand why you didn't use the official video, though...

Manowar-Heart of steel (with orchestra or not)
Just listened to your review of Floor’s Fire again. Thank you for all your great tech reviews . They are both entertaining and educational. As I think you may have experience live recordings of Nightwish are more fulfilling than their studio recordings. These days that is because of Floor’s great storytelling using voice but also facial and body movements. I think her solo ones are no different. Here is Fire live in a small setting. kzread.info/dash/bejne/pKWrqq-gn8KqlLQ.html And her second solo, Storm, with an orchestra in a tribute to a Dutch veteran. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aph1spqGmsrOj6g.html You might enjoy commenting on the scoring by the orchestra:-)
Hi Doug, would you like to explore some music from India/Pakistan region? I have some great recommendations. I know there is a language barrier but trust me the music won't disappoint you. If you are interested, my advice would be to start with "Coke Studio" and "Nescafe Basement". And my first recommendation would be "Aankhon ke Sagar". Thanks for making these videos. Cheers!
A bit like Annie Haslam and that's not a bad thing!
Please, can you do Van Halen. 70es stuff?
Floor entirely wrote the beautiful lyrics of the song Fire, in 30 minutes, Floor genius.
Nightwish was not always Floor. How about a song with Tarja or a solo song by Tarja?

Annette and Tarja were fired. Tarja because she was going to leave anyway, thinking that her totally uninteresting songs would give her the recognition she (or her husband) thought she deserved. Annette got her ass kicked out after disagreeing with the band about playing in Denver without her, comparing herself to Rihanna and Beyoncé in the process. This beyond managing to hit the right notes live only after hitting adjacent notes beforehand. Those two are never coming back. There is also the Tuomas Holopainen quote " Floor Jansen is the last Nightwish singer".

@@franshinlopen2166 Yeah, I think your right. Even if Tarja or Anette came back, Nightwish lost the magic they once had, it doesn't matter who's fronting them if Toumas can't write good songs anymore.
