I did include a 'skip mission' option :) I understand your point and I totally agree about the fun part. However, the biggest fun factor for me is when I'm put in a situation that pushes me beyond my comfort zone and requires me to tap into everything I ever learned about the module, and when I succeed it's such a huge sense of reward. I'm getting the same feedback from many players too. After all, DCS is quite a study sim, so I expect players who play DCS play it for this very reason - or at least a large part. So I'd want to play 'study-campaigns' that go with the nature of the sim. Also, the scenarios you describe, they already exist, in the form of instant action and single missions. They require far less work from the mission maker, so I wouldn't see the point in making a dozen of those and selling it as a campaign. Of course, I understand every player is different and you cannot please everyone. 'Fear the Bones!' is really meant for the player group that you describe, it's by far the easiest, most fun-centric campaign I've made so far. Still, you're flying a hi-fidelity F-14 module in a naval environment, so there's bound to be challenges :)

As always thanks for your view point and comments. I still think a Hollywood style campaign from the likes of you, or Baltic would be amazing, and I think you're missing that demographic. I think what most don't realize is how many people are lurkers in DCS, guys who don't say much and buy the modules and fly on their own, and yearn for the fun and excitement we had with the 90s flight sim products.

True Words Rod! DCS is still a Videogame, a very damn good Videogame/Simulation! We all want to have fun and also like to see the very advanced players. Always Impressing. Sometimes we just like to blown up the hole map and a nice drama story telling in game. :D DCS has absolutly the potential. Tom Clancy realism story who let you feel to be inside the theatre but with optional helpers. (professional voiceover, music, storywriting)

You're absolutely correct about the 3rd party campaigns. I can't even get my spitfire over the channel without the engine spluttering out even though I stay behind everyone else and try not to climb too fast or rev too high. It really puts me off buying the campaigns. If you download a free user campaign file and it doesn't work out you've lost nothing, but when you pay you expect to enjoy it and get your monies worth, not be pissed off and jack it off the fifth time it pisses all over you.

I'm one of those guys who will never "hit the ESC key" to fast-fwd to the refueler or the runway :) give it to me straight un-watered down all three hours of the hop! I couldn't achieve my childhood dreams and do it for real. If I can do it in front of a computer... that's a good approximation in my book I appreciate reflected simulations efforts to keep it real :)

I fully agree with your comments about campaigns for DCS. I have actually become quite warry of many of them for just the reasons you stated: too complex, too confusing or simply just too difficult for various reasons. I would really like to see more campaigns that provide an entertaining yet believable military conflict but without all that overcomplicated stuff. Or at least if there is some of that more realistic stuff, then the player should have to have some instructions on how to do that. I keep my fingers crossed for the upcoming dynamic campaign engine from ED. Yeah, I know about Liberation, which is quite a nice tool. But it does has it's limitations.

I remember the fun of Wing Commander and Strike Commander, US Navy Fighters, US Marine Fighters, X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Jane’s WW2 Fighters, Jetfighter II and III, the rest of the Wing Commander titles...those are when flight and space combat sims were so much fun. Pure fun, and in a plane or ship you wanted to fly.

@@rodwhite5274 Yeah, those were the days! I don't mind high realism on part of the modules. That's why I play DCS in the first place. I also prefer to have a certain level of realism for the missions. But only up to a point. More realism doesn't always translate into better entertainment. As the old saying goes, sometimes less is more.

Agree with you on the campaigns, you hit it right on the head. When I see too much complexity, I give it a pass. I haven't bought any of the F18 campaigns for this reason. I also skip most of the A10 campaigns for this reason. Jane's USAF and Israeli Air Force had 'fun' campaigns. Most players aren't so hardcore and/or don't have the time to invest in these.

Desert Wings Tobruk is really good. They dropped the base price recently, so 20% off is great value now. Totally agree with your more simplistic DCS World campaigns. I bought a few campaigns over the years but haven't flown any yet due to perceived or anticipated complexity.

I’m surprised I didn’t get the “there’s a mission editor, just build your own” comment from someone yet. I’m pleasantly surprised by the number of people who agree with me on this topic. I mean quick 20-30 missions filled with stuff to shoot at and blow up isn’t asking much. I think these guys are just afraid of being labeled as “dumbed down campaigns”, but they’ve already established themselves as great campaign makers. So I don’t see how hard it would be for them to make something fun, exciting and with less complexity. I’m not asking for Ace Combat blind shooting hordes of enemies, just something more fun and less complex. Heck they could even label them as “retro flight sim campaigns” . 1 fly to a specific waypoint. 2 do a thing, and have some surprises pop up along the way, scripted missions are the most fun anyway. 3 and fill it with cool stuff to discover along the way. Maybe even extra targets of opportunity. No having to use radios, no having to AAR, just killing foes and making explosions happen dramatically. Showing off the firepower of these war machines, and empowering the players with the feeling of flying a killing machine of war.

@@rodwhite5274 Yep seems like there are a majority of us who want simpler (and cheaper) campaigns. Wonder how we can get this point across to Eagle Dynamic and the campaign designers?

You should be excited about MAC that ED is hinting about is coming soon. That's more the style you're looking for. I'm not a "by the book" guy myself but the more I fly and learn, the more I get closer to "by the book". Kind of natural progression. I also think you have a good idea about these campaigns, I hardly ever finish any of them because it is such a PITA to suffer through some of the missions I am not interested in.

Nice video bud! You need to enable Petrovich in you Hind I think it’s ctl.V then bind the keys to your HOTAS. Super easy to do and he/ she will target for you, then either have them shoot or you shoot. You can also have them fly it and direct them where to go. You’ve been using it when you jump into the front seat but you can also tell Petrovich where to go, how high etc all with HOTAS commands. I think you’ll enjoy the Hund even more. It is a shit load of fun to fly. I am going to try and set everything up tonight and fly in you Persian Gulf area & check it out in the helo. Only flown in high speed aircraft! BTW, what software do you use to capture you vids in? I need to try and do that. Anyway, enjoyed the video & that was good news pointing out Casmos videos. Very helpful. Thx
