Our Flatcoat was a rescue at 18 months. She is now 13 and she is the sweetest, best dog ever!

I cannot think a better dog!

We have had 4 Flatcoats over the years. Two wouldn't get far away from you on a walk the other two were constantly on the lookout for an escape route. You didn't mention there love of water they could swim around a large lake for 2.5 hours and be ready to go again when we got back to the Land Rover. When the lake was part frozen they went across the ice to get to the water before we had a chance to do anything. They were very good with children and strangers. They certainly need a lot of exercise. We have 250 acres of woodland at the back of the house and a walks of an hour twice a day suited them fine. I could go on but I think that we had four over a period of 40 years says something.

I have a mix flattie and all my life I have had dogs but none like this one, I truly truly love my beautiful girl.

We got our flattie when the owner decided to return to her country of origin. She had been told the dog was a "labradoodle"!!! I knew just looking at her that no "doodle" had ever been near her!!! Her former owners had her trained and must have been somewhat strict with her. It took about a week to turn her into a full-fledged "hillbilly." She discovered riding in the front of the car and sticking her head out the window was a lot of fun. She makes friends with EVERYBODY!!! We got her a kiddie pool, and she has been swimming a few times in deeper water, where she is a natural. She is just a big, happy goof-ball who likes nothing better than being loved, petted, played with, and loved some more. She also knows how to do "guilt" really well--especially when she wants treats!!! We are so blessed to have her, and I would recommend this breed to anyone!!!

Mine has no wanderlust and is stuck to me like glue. He also doesnt like water. I think mines a bit of a weirdo lol

thats a super weird that it wouldn't like water :D the one we had swam without hesitation and our neighbour's are/were the same.

Owner of flat coated for 3 years. I do not agree with rating. Our dog has 2000qm garden, however able to wait for us indoor for 10 hours when necessary (cold weather, his illness a.s.o), he is wrong watchdog, sleeping a lot :-), friendly with everyone, ignoring wild animals. He loves our family, he prefers our presence instead of food.. great dog!!!

I have one I have owned other Labs but he is bye far the smartest he is a beast he tops the scales at over a hundred pounds strong as a ox he was very easy to train he loves to go in the water and ride in the back of the truck his name is Scow he is named after a local boat your are right he always has to be moving or playing and that tail it knocks over everything all the time the cooler the better thanks very much for the video nailed my dog to the tee he is going on six years and he is a great dog

Glad to hear our dog is not alone at coming in at over 100 pounds. The vet said most of the flatties she sees are doing that now. Our little girl is named Nadia, and she is smart as a whip, too. We love this silly dog!!!

Mhm I don‘t know...mine is really simple I guess. I mean yes he doesn‘t like it when he is home alone, but it‘s training and which breed likes it to be alone ? (Sorry for my english, I‘m not a native speaker)

I want one with a liver coat. Will have to wait till I can get some land...
